YOR - You are overreacting and listening/watching/reading people with an agenda. Assuming the US, the US power grid is far too diverse and not reliant on any one form of fuel (gas, nuclear, renewables, etc). The problems we have with the grid is politicized because different political policy makers/drivers have different visions. That won't causes a collapse, rather, just dumb policies where people put the cart before the horse. For example, "let's ban gas appliances" and go electic. Then the look (or not) at how we create electricity and discover the majority of its is through burning gas, so all they are doing is burning more gas to create electricity to run an appliance that once ran on gas and we don't have enough electrical infrastruction to eliminate gas. At the end of the day, the politicians just sulk back with their dumb ideas and we keep chugging along.

What exactly does that emoji mean? Can we assume it works now?

Finally, somebody old enough to make this reference. The official Larry, Darryl and Darryl CIG pack will be my next purchase for my Connie Phoenix.

There is a reporting mechanism, Mr Alpha Tester.

Vegas.
OpinionsALAH
Ok, but what solo ship will have a hot tub and bar? I need an AI bartender and some porters that can double as gunners in my Connie Phoenix.
OpinionsALAH
I'm a newbie and grinding away for the Mk IV Pheonix so I can have a pretend bar in my pretend spaceship to support my actual alcoholism. The fact I can sleep it off in the hot tub validates my decision.

"Why is it a good thing if 'other people are quietly dragging a piano uphill'?" Because compaing about it does nothing. In business nothing is perfect. Shit hits the fan through no fault of the Company or the Team. Customer's go BK, Vendors don't perform, cash crunch, the government decides to F around with tariffs, etc., etc. A company and its teams assess, pivot and drags the f'ing piano up the hill.
Leadership is about motivating the team to help carry that f'ing piano. A leader fails when their team fails.
You are assuming a number of things about OP and ignoring the question. OP has a team lead that may just be too anxious and empathetic to be effective. Empathy is a good thing, but too much empathy can cause friction and annoyance. A little anxiety can motivate, too much anxiety can cripple.
The description of OP's team lead is somebody that is good at what they do, but lacks the self-confidence to truly believe they are good at what they do. Their empathy is an asset, their anxiety is a huge problem. I deal with a person like this daily.
u/PghIT15203 - Because good "leadership is about motivating the team to help carry that f'ing piano." What you wrote describes a person with anxiety.
Based solely with what you wrote, I would advise you that your job is to do all three: "coach it, contain it, and accept it." Assuming its anxiety, she needs that feedback because she has a little voice in her head from past experiences that is telling her she is an imposter and to ignore all the logical signs that she is safe. Her anxiety is what gives her high emotional intelligence, its also what drives her need for constant reasurrance. As her leader she looks to you to assure her she is safe. Explain to her that you have your own anxieties, responsibilities and obligations that go far beyond her team. When you ignore her its because you trust the job she is doing, not whatever that little voice in her head is telling her. Figure out a way to empower her to feel like she is communicating appropriately without disrupting your day-to-day with her anxiety. Hell, sometimes a simple "thumbs up" emoji works ... it let's them know you saw and approve without messing about with a well crafted message. Good luck.

I had cargo missions that I failed or got aborted and cargo sitting is some base/station/facility with my name on it that was unsellable. I also had gold sitting in inventory on some base that is infested with Pirates (newbie learning and waiting to upgrade my ships to go try to get that gold). Basically, cargo all over the verse that was either not mine or not available because I'm a sitting duck if I try.
4.10.2 lands, recreate my character, go to the TDD on New Babbage and there is my f'ing gold and a bunch of other cargo from failed contracts that has been sitting in various stations that was just unsellable and now its all on my home planet and I can sell it ... which I did.

$300 for a ship that doesn't wiped. For some, $300 gets blown in a few hours of going out for dinner and drinks with friends. For others, $300 is the cost of a single ticket to a football game or concert.
Then there are the Star Citizen - Alpha Testers, who will pay that $300 and convert it to 20, 40, 100 hours of entertainment by ferrying around their Org buddies who will use the ship to dominate and have loads of fun doing it.
Its a bit relative.
Me? I can afford it, but I'm a newbie that just laid down $300 for my sticks and don't have any Org buddies. Just a loner in a rented raft, grinding to have enough to buy the Mark IV Pheonix because I really want a pretend bar in my pretend ship to support my actual alcoholism.

u/Byte_hoven - Every single game of this size and scope has bugs. The code even has error handling routines designed to overcome/ GTA 5 - bugs. GTA 6 - will have bugs. Every operating system, application, development tool, etc., etc., has bugs. Even people have bugs - DNA misconfigs, genetic susceptibilities to envirornmental exposure, etc.
Yes, bugs in the first 5 hours of play is not only OK, but expected and you can expect the release version to enter the world with bugs that are only discovered by users with specific hardware set up, driver updates that break something, hardware idiosyncrosis, and plain ol' "We never thought a player would try that."
Our world is just a bunch of imperfect systems relying on other imperfect systems.
Let me be the first to welcome you to planet Earth.

Perspective. Have the right perspective and you will enjoy it. My tips (as a newbie myself).
First: You are an "Alpha Tester." The money you paid gave you access to a ground breaking game in development with goals that are very ambitious. Expect a bug here or there or lots of bugs. Example, you call up your ship, hear a bang, and when your ship comes up its in pieces. Oh well. LOL thats a bug. Log out, log back in, go to your hanger, do the same thing, and there is your ship. Fly away.
Another bug may be that you load up and get ready to leave your hanger and "Alt+N" does nothing. The hanger does not open, no communication received. Hit it a few more times ... nada. Turn off your engine, leave your ship, run around the ship, get back in, turn on the engine, hit "Alt+N" and viola ... hanger doors opening.
Don't get mad, its a wonderfully immersive game in Alpha and identifying the bugs are your job, indeed, CIG wants you to document and report those bugs.
Second: Not all the features and capabilities are implemented. Some NPC's are trapped by chairs, others having emotional breakdowns. Learn to live with "Hi" "Hi there" as you walk by the NPC's. Look out the window and watch the world pass by, and just know that the ship that just left the hanger has a fellow Alpha Tester, just like you, flying off to mine, fight, pirate, courier, bounty hunt, etc.
Third: Have fun, enjoy the visuals and sounds. Hook up with your friends experience the game in its mostly working awesome, but somewhat buggy state.
Fourth: Remember, you are playing a MMO on a server that has too many players sometimes. Sometimes that server is under so much strain your actions may take 3-10 seconds to register, just find a logout point, and try another server that is less crowded.
Finally, did I mention you are an Alpha Tester and the money you paid gave you access to a game under development (in Alpha). Don't forget that and don't be like the Testy Citizens that think it should be 100% perfect and designed 100% like they wanted.
Have the right perspective and you will have loads of fun and the bugs you experience are just small annoyances that will eventually be fixed.

Two different fucking systems/technologies. One is a stand alone game that doesn’t require a cloud server system to manage a billion little details, the other does. Why is this so hard to understand? The engine might be the same, but the systems that engine drives are different.
OpinionsALAH
Why? The trailer is a promotional piece designed to drum up excitement about where Star Citizen should be when its ready for delivery (which its not). We are in the Alpha stage still, so what is on the trailer is ... what's the word??? Ah yes ... irrelevant.
In addition, the visuals are going to be highly dependent on the 3D engine, graphics card power / vram for each user. Presumably, somebody with a 4070 will have a lesser expereince than a user on a RTX 5090.
OpinionsALAH
u/AmazingPermission981 - WHAAT!!!!! Star Citizen has been delivered? When did this happen? I just bought in with my pledge two weeks ago and it was only the Alpha release 4.10.xxx
That is so cool to see its now been delivered. From Alpha ... skipping Beta ... to now delivered. Hell yaaaa!!
/end sarcasm
Dude, its f'ing Alpha, if you don't want to be an Alpha Tester then don't. Its not ready for delivery last I checked, so cool your jets and go back to testing or hop of the servers so the rest of us can continue testing the Alpha version and reporting bugs.
OpinionsALAH
u/TheFallingShit - Unlike my fellow Testy Citizens, I read your post and you clearly put a great deal of thought into the rules of the road for this verse. I appreciate the effort, good job.
As a newbie to the verse who is still a long way away from getting my bearings, I do agree that the consequence often doesn't fit the crime in my brief experience, fortunately, the economics of the verse are such that recovery from piracy, being murdered and blown to vapor is also not that big of a deal, so losing 500k-900k in cargo is a smallish setback.
I like the overall concept of everything you wrote, but it may be just a little too ambitious for V1 of Star Citizen. Regardless, thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts.

My Timex Sinclair 1000 was the US version of the Sinclair ZX81, which was replaced by the ZX Spectrum. The US version of the ZX spectrum never caught on because Commodore Vic 20 and C 64 took the market.
The first flight simulator I played on my Sinclair 1000, I had to program in basic from a magazine and save it to tape. Now look at us we got color.
OpinionsALAH
No tape drive, hell the generation before had punchcards. I always had a tape drive … we were middle class rich, and come to think of it I believe I had one for my Timex Sinclair 1000, but it’s been far too many beers between then and now to recall with any certainty.

Any thing of value can be reduced to a fair market monetary value. If it’s a side of beef, it has a fair market value. If it’s a trip it has a fair market value if the company transfers you cash or a thing with a fair market value it should appear on your K-1 as a draw, distribution or compensation. As the soul shareholder of a corporation, you have the opportunity to pay taxes on it as a W-2 or pass through taxes if it’s on your K-1. If a company is providing swag to their employees, the IRS has a de minimis rule where it doesn’t count, but if the swag is over a certain fair market value, then the employees need to pay taxes on the fair market value of the swag.
u/FraserValleyGuy77 your comment perfectly illustrates the mindset difference between a simple hourly worker versus a salaried professional. That's OK, the world needs workers, clock watchers, ditch diggers and followers. This manager, on the other hand, needs and wants professionals and leaders.
This is exactly how I have always run my companies and communicated with professionals. You are paid a salary to get the job done whether it takes 20 hours or 60 hours. There will be times when it simply isn't necessary to work 40 hours and others where its necessary to work 40 hours. Get the job done and be a great team player and balance your life as any professional would.
