I remember being very young and I was very pure of heart. I can’t speak for my earliest memories, but I was not sinful at age 5. I simply won’t believe that. Call me prideful all you want. Sure I became sinful as a teen and young adult but that was learned behavior. Not my nature.

In the Christian faith, yes Jesus is God. But why would God specifically reward one sect of people when we're all created equal? The whole point of Jesus is that nobody is special. That gentiles can be a part of this religion just as Jews are. So why do we say that Jesus came to fulfill the Jewish faith? If Jesus came to fulfill their faith, then why is Christianity even a thing? Why does there exist a breakaway religion? Shouldn't we all be a part of Judaism and not Christianity? Jews still don't profess that Jesus is God, so obviously there's a disconnect here. Jesus came to break away from that entirely and build a religion for all peoples everywhere at any time. That was the whole point. If the OT is necessary to get the context historically for this then fine. But it's not worth worshipping or pretending that we need to follow any of it when that's antithetical to Christ's purpose entirely.

Hmm interesting. I will say that my church preaches Original Sin as in children are born guilty and need Jesus right away. I hate that with a passion, so if other traditions preach something different I'd be open to that.

On the Old Testament, I don't agree with you. I've heard people make that case all the time, but it doesn't leave room for the very real possibility that the Jews weren't special. Let's say Jesus came at a different time in history in a different corner of the world. Would he not have fulfilled the prophecies of that culture? I think Jesus just happened to be plopped in the middle east around Jewish people, so he decided to fulfill their prophecies to built rapport. That doesn't mean the Jews or their book was important whatsoever. Jesus would have done the same with any other people at any other time in history. That's my belief anyhow. And that's not to mention that I fundamentally hate the stories of the Old Testament and they are objectively gross.

Dude thank you so much. I've been really anxious about this and honestly seeing your comment really gives me relief. You're a very smart guy and seeing your comment gives me hope that other rational people exist in the world. You're so right that losing the Sunday rhythm is hard, and I've already begun to feel lonely and afraid of that loneliness. It's weird how the community can become a drug for lonely people. I always felt a little uneasy about how easily you could walk in and make friends. I would ask myself, "What's the catch?" And the catch is you have to submit to their worldview. I don't think people are wrong when they liken it to a cult.

I don’t think it was, but I was definitely surprised to see it! It’s also interesting that he frames the male character as the one pushing for an abortion, when so often we’re told that women WANT abortions and they feel empowered in having that choice. But his GF is actually frustrated with his answer. Definitely a dynamic that hardly gets explored at all.

I just saw the 4k Final Cut in theaters recently which includes the ending scene of Graham meeting the family whom he saved, but it does not include the psychologist scene you described. Very interesting how Mann chooses to take away or add certain details. I feel like it would have been a noticeably different film with the psychologist scene added in. However, I do remember a part where he flips a nosy journalist onto a car windshield and we get to see Graham’s aggressive side. Does the psychologist scene show us more of his angry side?

Weaver absolutely killed it, and it's insane how well he monologues. Perfect casting for a pompous, yet secretly inseure, villain.

Thank you so much! Very much appreciated!

My bad I didn't realize where I was LOL

Saying "incel" as if that word means literally anything in 2026 lmfao

I didn't say she doesn't have other things going for her, but through Bear's eyes she's hot and that's about it. They have zero chemistry in the film. She isn't particularly nice or sweet to him. He's overlooking their lack of chemistry because he finds her attractive.

I recently made a video review of Obsession that I am very proud of!

My thesis is that the film is a warning against lust, and it teaches us the value of seeking women for their qualities of character rather than their looks. The protagonist wishes for the unending love of his high-school crush, and this wish ends up ruining his life and hers. The most tragic part of all, however, is that another girl in his social circle had a crush on HIM; yet rather than pursuing a relationship with this sweet, tender-hearted girl, Bear enlists the help of a supernatural device to make his sexual fantasies a reality. Surely, his lust gets the better of him, and as it has been for many men, it is his downfall.

But honestly, I wouldn't define his feelings for her as love. I think it was only ever a vague obsession/lust and nothing more. Granted, the movie doesn't give us a ton of time to show us their relationship in action, but as far as I could tell, she wasn't an overly loving person; she was consistently and easily distracted when Bear was trying to talk with her, and she got oddly aggressive when he tried flirting with her. His so called "love" for her was either borne out of lust or he just wanted a mommy because he was neglected as a kid, so he was willing to overlook her flaws--which is also unhealthy. There's no true love in his feelings for her.

Well my point was that if we wait until we're "perfect" to start living, then we'll wait forever and find we missed out on life. So while it's not a bad thing to always strive to be better, I think the standard of "perfection" is unattainable, and it can become an outright hindrance on our lives.

Oh for sure, Clint was always riding on the back of Sergio Leone. Without Sergio, Clint wouldn't have been so inspired to make his unique spin on the genre.

Bingo

Thank you my friend, I love your insight!

Thanks! Very well put!

I mean, art is made to be interpreted, so that's what I did. I just say "true meaning" to express confidence in my analysis, but by all means I'm open to other people's perspectives.

Thank you! :)

interesting, but what's the difference between "broken" and "traumatized"?
