At least not engineering wise. If you ever worked with them on PG side, you know how bad their engineering practices are.

I just jump between these services to whoever offers the best rates. Used Mulya, EximPe in the past right now happy with Infinity at 0.5%. Have a friend who uses XFlow roughly the same rate, I believe Mulya/Infinity just use XFlow under the hood.

Few suggestions from my experience: Prefer contractor style payroll, you can save a lot on taxes, look into 44ADA. Basic gist of it is, if your contractor income is below 75L, you can claim 50% as expenses without maintaining any books aka presumptive taxation.

If you stay below 75L your effective tax rate is like 10% if you cross that and can't really show expenses it shoots upto 28%, so either ask for $77k or above $100k no point inbetween.

Use platforms like infinity, mulya, skydo for inward remittance, you'll get much better FX rates.

Do find a CA who knows what they are doing, if you plan on going this route, if they don't talk about LUT for export of services avoid them.

Happy to chat over DM if you need more help.

Highly recommend joining remote indian slack, they have 12 odd CAs in their community slack. Overall a good community to figure out taxes, inward remittance, visa etc

https://remoteindian.com/ need to apply to get in but worth it

If its a typical SF startup, $150/hr isn't outrageous for a short stint.

PacNinja

There are plenty of services for in-ward remittance like Skydo, Mulya, Eximpe etc some of these even provide a way to generate an invoice. In terms of taxation, look into 44ADA.

I think it's an issue with people who aren't used to async comms. I usually link them to https://nohello.net/en/ which is a bit passive aggressive but it helps.

PacNinja

When hiring companies want you to join and start working ASAP so shorter is ideal. I think 1 month is the sweet spot, not too long to put off recruiters but long enough for you to shop around IMO.

Try using a columnar format—it’d have better compression in theory because blocks of similar data get stored together. E.g., a date column’s data stored together in a block would compress better compared to storing entire rows with mixed data types. Columnar formats can pull a lot more specialized tricks like Gorilla encoding etc.

If you are willing to share the dataset, would love to tinker.

Fair point need to be tact in how you ask "Am I meeting expectations? what else can I do to improve".
Bad move to make it all personal. Good move to get feedback.

PacNinja

i was going thru my reddit history and got curious, were you able to finish it :D

PacNinja

Have you talked to your mentor or manager about this? You'll be able to figure out if it's either impostor syndrome or a skill issue. If it's a skill issue, then there's nothing else you can do but grind.

I personally haven't come across incompetent ppl who are self-aware and care about improving :)

Edit: To clarify, by talk I mean get feedback about how you are doing.

PacNinja

Never had issues with HDFC, ICICI or Fi(Federal Bank). FWIW, I was able to use my Fi debit card on DO.

PacNinja

Might impress a recruiter but over emphasis on tools would be a red flag for an EM.

PacNinja

They got me into coffee with their "Kelagur Washed" drip kits last year!
Bought a grinder, v60 after those drip kits went out of stock :P

PacNinja

bruh, why are you screwing yourself by putting poor academics at the forefront.
leetcode achievements section is asking for interviewers to throw harder than usual problems at you during DSA round.

internship 12k/mo => 6 LPA => 9 LPA => 30LPA, 5 yoe, no degree
spent 4+ years at a startup didn't get the promised equity/pay hikes, left for a bigger org.

PacNinja

Also, congrats on getting the project into CNCF :)

Few thoughts:

  • You can be fine either way. Just ensure proper separation between the transport and core logic layers.
  • Evaluate your framework's ecosystem. Does it have robust middlewares for logging, metrics, security, etc.?
  • Check how responsive the maintainers are when it comes to security issues.

Regarding the last point, I have an anecdote with Gin. They had a security issue reported, and it took two months for the PR to be merged, followed by another month for them to cut a release.

Most CDNs co-locate with your ISP. And most of the services people care about use decent CDNs.

Works for me.

Don't you think models will simply get better, requiring less skilled prompts? I felt that with using GPT-3 and 4 during a hackathon, GPT-4 required less detailed prompt to work reliably.

PacNinja

Any kind of motivational stories etc would also be very helpful.

I'm a high-school drop-out with no uni. degree and I still made it in the industry. You haven't royally screwed up like me so, stop worrying and do your best.

PacNinja

Just ask na?

PacNinja

I know this is an old post but I hope I can help random folks coming here from google. I simply poured 99% isopropyl alcohol on the scroll wheel and lightly cleaned it. And that fixed it for me.
