Boeing and Lockheed are private too, and they're the ones who gave us SLS at $4.1B per launch under cost-plus contracts. SpaceX got fixed-price contracts. That came down to how NASA wrote the deal, not who owned the company.

And NASA paid for SpaceX to exist. It put in $396M for Falcon 9 and Dragon, and when Elon was nearly broke in 2008, a $1.6B NASA contract saved the company. The public took the risk, and Elon kept the upside.

It's still happening. Starliner isn't certified, so NASA is stuck relying on SpaceX alone. SpaceX also won $733M in BEAD broadband money.

So public ownership isn't "stealing." It's the public getting back what it paid for. And I don't trust someone as deplorable as Elon controlling that much of our space and satellite infrastructure.
