I was "fired" illegally out of the blue on a Sunday before my supervisor even knew. Then brought back via an email that went to my spam folder, had OPM overrule my program manager to revoke my already approved remote job accommodation (ADA violation) to be in person, was directly told by my program manager the admin was looking for a legal way to fire me despite them needing me, put on admin leave "pending court cases".

I had less than 2 years of "official" experience so if I was RIF'd I get less than a single paycheck of severance and if I was laid off my states max unemployment was about 1/8th my salary and only good for 3 months.

I was offered 7 months of fully paid admin leave through DRP (an illegal program, can't allocated funds not appropriated by congress yet and they did) but it worth the risk since I was going to be gone soon anyways and I started job hunting the day I had been illegally fired.

I took it in a heart beat. Got another job and collected two full salaries for over 4 months, setting me up to be able to financially be okay when student loans kicked back in and now that cost of living is sky rocketing I still have a safety nest where a lot of people don't.

Cherry on the cake is they had to hire someone to replace me, at a higher salary than I had, so not only did they not save anything from losing me, the replacement's salary has cost them more.

I despise Trump and the destruction he's done to science, research and USFS, but I'll outlive him and go back and help build it up better than it was.

As someone with extreme anxiety, he was so calming and grounded her by verbalizing in a calm and personal way what was going on when she was feeling very overwhelmed, it would help me stay grounded in the moment instead of adrenaline spiking anxiety.
