How would you characterize Ouronos in a Percy Jackson fanfic? [pjo] [hoo] [toa] (self.camphalfblood) [Fanfiction]

That's where my problem is. It feels like Mull either didn't have a clear view of the Society's motives at the start or completely changed them while refining the series. I like the PShinx's motivations, but I do feel like the misguided arcane ecoterrorist vibe is more thought-provoking.
PhantomHope13
One of my main goals with Ouranos' character is to make him a different beast than the rest of the Protogeni we've seen in the series thus far. Personally, I model him as a kind of performative preacher: affable and theatrical when he's at the reins, but the second things stop going the way he wants them to, it's cold, mechanical fury.
PhantomHope13
You're very welcome, and I very much did. Not to pry or sound greedy, but do you know what your next project is?
PhantomHope13
Your dedication to this project and the fandom that's formed around it is nothing short of amazing. I hope you know that, and I hope your next project is as fulfilling for you as this one was!
PhantomHope13
My vision for MAWW is kind of a more mature spiritual successor to Kim Possible. I see a young, late teens/early twenties Wonder Woman, Steve Trevor, and Etta Candy as a superhero/superspy team, traveling around the world fighting villains while dealing with romantic/platonic shenanigans.
PhantomHope13
Ooo, that's a really good point! It's funny you mention that too, because Rachael is actually an important character in the fic. I wanna give our red-headed oracle a chance to shine!
PhantomHope13
In this fic, it comes from Ouranos. He's a judgmental prick, but unfortunately, he was the first king.
PhantomHope13
Okay, the bad news is that I've already decided how Ouranos comes back, and it doesn't involve Jason. The good news is that I can work that idea into the story in a way that's just as, if not more, impactful. Thank you so much!
PhantomHope13
Time is a Flat Circle.

I was imagining that Ouroanos was at least somewhat aware of himself throughout the entirety of his chopped-up period. He's been lurking in the shadows for centuries, if not millennia, watching events unfold and scheming. I can't go into details for spoiler reasons, but within my fic canon, Ouranos has recently found a way to pool just enough of his essence together to regain a semblance of form and consciousness. He's not nearly as powerful as he would be in his prime, but he's on the way there. I really like your lucid dreaming concept. He's definitely in a waking-up state, occasionally slipping into less-than-aware states to rest and continue pulling himself back together.
PhantomHope13
Ao3, once I'm a bit further along. I posted an old version of it a few years back, but college happened.
PhantomHope13
Yeah, I was imagining that Atlas was one of Ouranos' servants. He's very bitter about Kronos leaving him to rot under the sky after he "failed" in the Titan's Curse, so he's willing to throw his weight in with Ouranos after Ouranos offers him revenge on all parties involved in his misery.
PhantomHope13
Zeus and Ouranos' relationship is a core pillar of the fic, as is both of their relationships with Kronos, who, while I won't say how, also plays a major role in the story. Ouranos certainly thinks highly of Zeus, but not in a way that involves any genuine interest or care for who Zeus is as a person (or god). I haven't really thought about how Ouranos feels about the Archery Twins, but I imagine you're pretty close in your reading. Both are of the sky, so they have that going for them, but Artemis' relationship with the Huntresses would definitely not fly with Ouranos, and Apollo's affection for humans (and demigods in particular) would be a really big no-no for him.
PhantomHope13
An Atlas redemption storyline would be interesting. I'd have to handle it with care; the guy did murder his own daughter, after all, but I'm not against painting him in a more nuanced light.
PhantomHope13
Thanks! I imagine Ouronos' treatment of Thalia would be like that of an overbearing grandfather. He's always mentioning how much better off she'd be if she let go of this whole "goth" thing she has going on and embraced her true, celestial nature. He'd see Percy as an unkouth buffon, and I feel like he'd treat Nico with barely concealed contempt. I don't want to get too mature with this, but I imagine Ouronos drops a few less-than-tolerant comments about the LGBTQ and disabled/nuerrodivergent communities.
As for Ouronos' views on power, I think you nailed it on the head. Ouronos sees himself as the lynchpin holding reality together. He genuinely believes he's saving the world from the rot that's taken root since his son took him out of the picture.
A major theme throughout the story is power and its impact on people, explored primarily through the different ways each of the "True Big Three" (Ouranos, Kronos, Zeus) views and expresses it.

Love your art.

A03 is definitely the safest pick. Happen to have a name for yourself or your story so we can find you?

The issue, for me at least, isn't about starting projects too early; it's about setting your expectations for projects too high. Starting an online novel, webcomic, or even an animated pilot is a great way to build up your skills. The problem starts when you expect your audience to form immediately. Building a fandom takes time. I wish I had started some of the book projects I'm working on now sooner; I only wish I hadn't had the fear that it wouldn't succeed immediately keep me from taking the first step.
I was definitely framing him off of fascist leaders/religious fundamentalists. He sees himself as the enforcer of Fate, which, to him, is Chaos' will, mostly because he can't stand the idea that Chaos is just a mindless/very laid-back creator deity. And that is an interesting idea.
