Do you think the practice of "Atheistic Christianity" by people like Gretta Vosper is problematic in any kind of way? Why or why not?
It's not for me, but if she likes it, she's not harming anybody so she's free to do as she pleases.
Do you think Christianity, which is part of the "social phenomenon" of 'religion' (Emile Durkheim definition), can still meaningfully exist without literal belief in God?
I don't really care, tbh. The question is way too dependent on subjective definitions to have a meaningful answer.
Do you think ritual, liturgy, sacred music, and communal worship can be valuable independently of supernatural belief?
To some people, sure. To me? Nope. Note that my answer would have been the same if you had not included the last four words.
Phylanara
Yeah but you have to take into account the god that makes infinite duplicates of you to send them to heavens and that god cancels yours out.
Phylanara
Why do you give established religions more credence then the others?
And I do draw a line somewhere. I follow the evidence. That's my line and it looks a lot less arbitrary than yours so far.
Phylanara
Why do you limit yourself to the established religions ns? We should treat all possible religions according to the evidence, not the claims.
Which means that for every religions n (that offers no evidence) there is one with just as much evidence and the exact opposite reward structure. There is as much evidence for the god that punishes vegans as for the god that rewards them
So pascal's wager is useless : the mean expected value reverts to zero.

The thing is, the bible can and has been interpreted in so many different ways as to become effectively meaningless. I see no reason to favor your interpretation of what "the beast" is over anyone else's... Not doin particularly care what the bible says until there is evidence provided for what it says. And at that point, I don't care that it was the bible that said it anymore.
Phylanara
I think "Cool story bro. Got any evidence to back it up or should i put it next to the lord of the rings, batman and star wars?"
Phylanara
Prove that please.

Not our problem.
Phylanara
Again, not our problem. You're the one coming here to discuss this, either you put enough effort in to make that discussion possible or not. We don't owe you the effort you're not willing to make.

Explaining the process that led to poor a poor quality product does not raise the quality of the product. Use a better process.
Phylanara
Buy the first set cheap. If it breaks from use, replace with good quality. If the cheap one does not break, you don't need the more expensive one.

The thing is, I think mental phenomena are physical.
They're of the same nature as computational phenomena. Which we know are material, because we built them out of stuff.
Phylanara
The problem with that is, of course, that you give no reason to grant the bible any credence on the points where you grant it credence.
It is simpler to just... Disregard the bible altogether as a book of fables and myth.

Aren't you thinking of the Dragon slave? AFAIK, Giga slave was used twice. One went well, and the other got Lina possessed or something?

infatuated with him, that he can kill at any moment, triggering the end of the dungeon and a mass casualty event.

Which animated series/movie had superman confront batman on a lack of contingency for himself, and batman answer "I did build a contingency against myself. It's called the justice league" ?

Can you think of a way to make a perfect world for all conscious life that also doesn't break the laws of physics?
How is that relevant to the being who allegedly chose those laws?

I've never really considered debating my religious views previously because I know I'd be asked for proof of my beliefs, and to that I would say my ego informs me of its validity. That's all I have, and all I need. Christianity is true for me because my ego and my conscience tells me it's true. The parts of the Bible I believe are true because my ego tells it's true, and the parts of the Bible I don't believe are because my ego tells me it's not true.
In other words, you believe because you believe, and you have no support for that belief - except that belief itself.
You're right that there's nothing to debate. You don't believe because of reason, or reasons, so debate is useless.
Who made us that way? Are we even able to not break those (arbitrary) rules?
I mean I'm a math teacher, if I give a test to middle-schoolers that is doctorate-level, is punishing them for failing "good"?
