And note that this cutaway is from a Cleveland class cruiser at 100,000 shp.
So when a following sea inevitably floods these giant horizontal stacks, do you get a) boiler burner flames snuffed out, b) flooded out boiler room compartment sinking the ship, or c) catastrophic steam explosion? I've seen speculation that the initial HMS Barham explosion was water going down the stacks and flashing to steam.
PlainTrain
"each engine and boiler room in separate water tight compartment". Each boiler room is connected to a very long, very wide pipe that is just a few feet above the water line. They'd have fun with that.
You'd need to look at a cutaway of an actual battleship to see just how much of the ship's structure is devoted to trunking together multiple boiler room exhaust to see just how bananas this concept is.

Completely startled me when I was watching Stuart Little to find Laurie in it as the dad.

City of Miami. Chicago to Miami with a station six miles away from my house.

Alabama is allergic to granting power to local governments, or even its own legislature, so major and even minor changes have to be made by constitutional amendment adopted by state wide popular vote. Alabama's constitution as a result is the longest in the world.

A couple of times I've had a spasm while drinking water where all the esophagus muscles freeze open and any liquid in the esophagus just dropped straight down to the stomach. Very unsettling feeling the pipe just drain out.

You also should note that the reversing loop on the right only works to reverse from clockwise to counter clockwise. Nothing can change direction back to clockwise.

That was just the troops manning the immediate Atlantic Wall defenses on the beach which became a non factor after D-Day. The main reserve forces were of higher quality.

Equally important is that the airborne troops can hold the bank of the river to prevent replacement bridges being built, or infantry fording the river. Air attacks can't do that as well.

It's clearly Belgian band Technotronic who released the techno anthem "Pump Up the Jam" in 1989.

I guess the bombs in the foreground must be from a plane higher in the formation and out of view.

275 dips into Indiana briefly on its trip around Cincinnati in Ohio and Kentucky but I-75 is nowhere close to West Virginia.
PlainTrain
That’s bizarre framing of the issue. You don’t need an RV to travel.
PlainTrain
Where would that be possible? Ohio’s border with Kentucky and West Virginia is the Ohio River.

It's a staging issue with sitcoms. How do you set things up so that an actor immediately appears in view of an audience? Front doors are considered to be more formal and would open to a living room (space with couches and chairs), while back doors would open to kitchens or more informal areas. So how you would setup the set could be determined by the sorts of people that would be visiting the main characters during a production, and how formal those interactions would be.
And your premise is wrong. Plenty of shows feature a front door entrance to a house. Mr. Roger's Neighborhood, The Cosby Show, Family Ties, Family Matters, etc.
PlainTrain
It depends entirely on how they decide to stage the set, though. For The Cosby Show, front door was upper stage left of the living room set, and the back door was stage right in the kitchen set.

I was thinking of WWW when it came to Y2K because I was a web developer then. Major risk for my software was its reliance on database tables with 2 character year fields. We had to get the database guys to create 4 character fields for those tables, get the mainframe guys to populate those fields correctly, and then change all our sql queries to use the new fields.

It was taken very seriously indeed. We had to test every system we had, and get compliance verification from every vendor we had that they had a fix for any date issues.
We did a precautionary shut down of our systems at 10:30pm CST on New Year's Eve and stayed down until 12:30am CST on New Year's Day. We had radios handy if the phone system went down. We weren't expecting the Apocalypse, but we were certainly prepared for one.

The LED light posts around me are far more directional than the old sodium lights. I noticed flying in at night that you used to be able to see street lights from the air, but now you can only see what they illuminate.

I'm hoping we get more Tom Hank's electrician updates. Don't leave us hanging! (subtitle bonus in ep 4)

Mount Cheaha in Alabama is the tallest point in Alabama and the summit can be reached by car. Birmingham is the closest city.

I bought a 30" Ryobi but it really seems like anything bigger is a ZTR not a tractor.
This ship would be impervious to enemy shellfire because she would Vasa herself the first time waves broke against her stern.
