It's about policy decided democratically by members many years ago before invasion and nothing specific about Ukraine at all or any decision David made

It has come up only because of RW nutjobs and journalists asked specifically, and then probably driven by bots to make a fuss. Absolutely nothing has changed aside from the delusional state of people suddenly making a fuss about it.

Greens have been pushing Labor govt to make even tighter sanctions on Australian funding of Russia by continuing to buy their oil by backdoor. We gave Russia more than 2x the funds by buying their oil than we have given Ukraine by military support.

https://www.news.com.au/world/europe/australias-shameful-russian-oil-addiction-laid-bare-in-damning-senate-report/news-story/84b86a74a5ab3adb82486454a2d12e2b

PlanktonDB

This is such a bizarre and ridiculous take, it has nothing to do with David making a decision, it is long standing Greens policy and consistent across all previous situations of direct military aid.

Kind of incredible to invoke an issue around LBGTQ+ as well considering the issues around it still in Ukraine and the RW nutjobs who are screaming about this situation of the Greens are actually biggest supporters of Putin and the supposedly anti-woke, anti-gay Russia that is an oligarchic kelptocracy more than anything.

Trump who Labor, LNP and PHONies all want to jump in bed with is one Putin's biggest supporters and plays exactly the same might is right game as Putin, but also panders to Putin. inviting him to come his golf course for the upcoming G20 meeting Florida. trump wants to bring Russia back into trade.

If anyone could be considered a modern Chamberlain it's Trump, peace in his time, because FIFA gave him a medal you know.

This is the same guy who Albo was falling over himself to grab a selfie with

Every candidate and position in the party is subject to local member or delegate voting, same for policies.

There is no formal Fed leader position and never has been, it is a construct of Fed Parliamentary team and has absolutely no power or influence in the party in a formal sense. Some states have leaders others do not and they have no process to decide one because that is what members have voted for. Fed leader can't control any process in terms of the party including preselections.

Until such time as members democratically vote to a changed constitution or process it is entirely BS argument.

Some want change, some are ambivalent and think local preselections and party positions is more important, there's been votes on it. Adults with a functioning brain can see there's a few points to consider and there is no other process supported by members so far.

The idiotic takes and grasping at straws won't change anything

PlanktonDB

The fevered minds of the insufferably online hacks of auspol on reddit are going to be out of their minds

Shoebridge new Greens leader   FWIW the whole team is important and capable, popularly elected by Greens members in their electorates

PlanktonDB

Yeah why would I believe some random reddit idiot over direct knowledge?

Nothing has actually happened yet aside from a lot of ignorant snowflakes posting like mad on a few subreddits

PlanktonDB

Yeah explaining the process of candidates and MPs in most democratic party is a problem in the world of Auspol. You think.

Many comments in this sub just reinforce the hysterical ignorance that mostly partisan hacks and media ignorant of Greens actually promote.

Greens members can disagree and debate, it's being an adult human being. Don't feel pressured to delete my comment like others apparently have

PlanktonDB

The PHONies are so utterly pathetic

Endlessly criticising others and having the most fragile glass jaw

Just seems to reinforce what a bunch of pathetic snowflakes those who claim to be patriots are.

Hanson can't even bothered to show up for work half the time and harps on about others being lazy. If anyone has had a gutful it should be Australians tolerating that garbage attitude and gutlessness to face people who have a question to put

PlanktonDB

The level of unsubstantiated crap posted in this sub reddit, or many places online these days, is incredible. Though here it is particularly prevalent dressed up as fact.

In a time where fact checking is so easy the wilful ignorance is remarkable.

Switzerland has ~32% of population born outside, which is close with Australia as highest levels in OECD. Like most developed countries, an ageing population without migrants would fall over in terms of services and large parts of the economy

Japan has increasing migrant workforce to keep things going. Despite historical small intake. Almost as many Chinese now in Japan as in Australia. Biggest reason for Japanese business failures is lack of workers. So forced to get migrant workers in

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2026-01-04/japanese-island-etajima-migrants-oyster-industry/106176486

PlanktonDB

God the idiotic takes about just being gutless and mediocre in auspol is exactly why things are crap for so many

Grow up mate, this is politics and arguing for doing better, having some convictions and a different view is exactly what it is about.

Maybe some are happy to be whinging pathetic excusers but thankfully not everyone is. Much of what people enjoy of modern world was not won by being gutless sycophants, but by people organising, asking for and expecting better

PlanktonDB

Historically Europe was even more of a mess from centuries of blood feuds between feudal kings. With the largest documented genocide of modern times being right in the heart of Europe still in some people's living memory.

The craziness of not realising the relative peace of the last 80 years is largely a product of peace in European societies after the incredible mass destruction, murder and genocide of WW2.

Much of prior European history is a bloody messy affair between incestuous feudal lords where the people payed for largely internecine wars. The middle east was in earlier times maintaining and developing fields of maths (algebra, algorithm) and science (chemistry) as well as a home of poetry and arts. Incorporating classic texts and ideas from the west as well as the east, which is also where many ancient texts came back to the western world from.

PlanktonDB

What a load of complete idiotic garbage on so many levels

Fragile pathetic and incapable of acknowledging the unique and deep history of this land and the first people of here, with a history deeper than any other contemporary human culture

Australia was never about equality to start with, first it was a dumping ground of imperial England, emptying their prisons

Then as a colonial state passing laws specifically against the rights of any 'non-white' people to come and live here. While practising a genocide of the original inhabitants under the pretext of an empty land.

Australia as a nation state was forged in imperial literally and explicitly colonial racist terms

Only in the last 60 years or so was a different view formed

As someone who can find a direct ancestor on the roll of honour, who died as a British subject of the king not an Australian citizen which didn't exist until 1948

All the bloody fascist can go and get totally fucked and never ever speak on behalf of the dead

PlanktonDB

This dickhead once again and probably others, claiming people, including my direct ancestor on the roll of honour at AWM, died for white Australia

Privileged child of property hoarders is exactly the Auspol idiocracy you expect to find behind such efforts

This racist dickhead been promoting booing at welcome to country particularly at ANZAC services

Privileged elitist parading as Aussie hero, white Australia only of course

Child of property hoarder family hardly surprising element of Aust Idiocracy

This is bizarre view but common in repeating total BS takes on Greens

Almost all polls that have demographic data have Greens at close to or higher than Labor in 18-34 yrs. Often most popular party in this cohort over recent months. At 30 to 33% often.

YouGov on 7th April Greens 30 Labor 27 in 18-34 yrs

The amount of ignorant takes just repeated without any check or understanding is sadly unsurprising in the idiocracy of auspol.

There is just no media coverage of it. But there is heaps of media for boomers on PHON, who will be dead in the decades to come and won't have to deal with the shit they leave future generations.

PlanktonDB

Celebrating the idiocy that no Australian citizens and all our MPs have no role in deciding if our sons and daughters are sent to die and kill on foreign fields for some idiotic megalomaniac toddler interests is not the win you seem to think it is

PlanktonDB

ON totally support these landlord rorts How stupid do you have to be?

PlanktonDB

Worth noting as described here that Christian Zionists, mostly evangelicals but other denominations, are far more numerous than the entire population of Jewish people in the world. Even some Israeli orgs make claims of there being 700 million christian zionists, mostly in US traditionally, far outnumbering the less than 20 million Jews in the whole world. Some of those Israeli orgs also openly call it as a huge global force for Israel's interests in other countries. We have some of these orgs in Australia including 'charities'.

Some of the 'bigger charities' that provide support to Israel, IDF and settlers are christians who are zionists because in their messianic thinking they believe it will summon the end times and good Jews will convert to christianity at the end anyway.

Zionism as an idea that also long predates the existence of Israel and is in fact centuries old in some christian tradition, which is also the origin of most genuine historical anti-semitic activity.

People defending themselves against zionist attacks and their intent to pursue an apartheid state in Israel is totally reasonable

Another well informed piece by Anne Twomey

Wonder if the pathetic state of this sub can handle it

Wonder if the pathetic state of auspol can handle the consequences of the situation

PlanktonDB

As mentioned in the article much has been been detailed to NSW LC inquiry which is yet to report.

Here's some examples from NSW Police when they did table their info.

Some of the so-called antisemitic attacks were actually against pro-Palestine protestors, Jewish and otherwise. It's not just many repeated entries it's also mis-categorisation of incidents. Everyone identified as Jewish included even when nothing about antisemitism?

https://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/2025/oct/11/nsw-police-wrongly-categorise-significant-number-of-incidents-as-antisemitic-ntwnfb

Anti-Discrimination NSW received 25 formal complaints of antisemitism between Oct 23 and Jan 25 (NSW LC inquiry submission). An increase on previous years but a magnitude of order below the rhetoric around.

Many of the name suppressed submissions to the NSW LC inquiry appear to be Australian (NSW) Jewish people who feel too threatened by Zionist attacks to make their names public. There's obviously concerns about retribution and public attacks with some validity for a range of people.

The list from NSW Police is predominantly someone (unknown) said something, graffiti (including quite a few being cash with N@zi symbol received from ATMs), stickers and posters for pro-Palestine cause or rallies, or actual rallies. Online replies or comments to posts, some threats. The most brazen appear to be predominantly N@zis saluting etc which seem to constitute some of those where charges were laid. Also included is the obvious crank caravan staged event.

It's all been tabled in NSW upper house inquiry as stated in the article. No-one is saying a few stupid people aren't doing stupid racist or antisemitic things. This is Australia after all, so is to be generally somewhat expected I'd say. One of the police 'antisemitic incidents' is some idiot turning up in a Ned Kelly helmet, with a firearm in holster, doing graffiti on the Greens NSW office and filming himself then posting it on FB. After they had already rung and threatened the office as well.

Inflation and BS about what the situation is doesn't help anyone.

PlanktonDB

The downvoting and 'won't somebody think of the man-children' comments here just reinforces the story and the often regressive, ignorant state of auspol currently, seems particularly so in this subreddit

Just doing better seems too much for the feeble brains and base emotional unintelligence of too many Aussies these days

PlanktonDB

Idiotic Labor cheerleader crap

Name any actual amendment or compromise Labor have actually pursued or passed so far?

No-one is as pathetically and stupidly belligerent as Labor, including internally in their stitched up internal processes where their own MPs are pretty much all too gutless to speak up or have any genuine view on anything

The idiocy of just talking about business interests or playing imbecile style political team games and avoiding any discussion of what is best policy solution and addressing critiques from env scientists or orgs. Says everything about the disingenuous crap so many Labor hacks just repeat, ad nauseum

PlanktonDB

In news that the white supremacists and nazis hate. Jordan who wrote that for Sky is exactly the kind of snowflake that can't handle the facts

Studies by Aust Centre of Population and OECD on the impact of immigration, which was part of bigger study of impact on immigration across all OECD countries, found that immigration was beneficial to local employment here

  • In 2019, Australia had the highest share of migrants* in the OECD after Luxembourg, at 30 per cent of the population. This was more than twice the OECD average (14 per cent).
  • Migrants boost the labour productivity of Australian‑born workers. On average, a region with a 10 per cent larger migrant share (e.g., 33 per cent instead of 30 per cent) has a 1.3 per cent larger regional wage difference, which indicates a positive link between migration and labour productivity.
  • Migration boosts the employment of the Australian‑born population and does not affect its wages. A 1 percentage point rise in the annual migrant inflow (measured as share of the total population), on average, leads to a 0.53 per cent increase in the employment of the Australian‑born population. Australian‑born people of all skill levels, ages or genders benefit from this positive effect.

https://population.gov.au/publications/research/oecd-findings-effects-migration-australias-economy

We have a far more selective process and are actually a hard place for most people to get to, even if they wanted to.

We're a young nation entirely of immigrants aside from Indigenous people and people from all over the world have added to the culture.

The cringe ignorance and lazy attitudes of many Anglo Aussies is so thin skinned and too often so many pathetically favour the laziest path. I say that as child of a rural Anglo Aussie culture who was hoping the idiocy of a 'Wake in Fright' culture is really in the past.

The apparently more arrogant, extravagant and entitled lifestyles some Aussies seem to favour these days, with some of the highest per capita emissions and resource use of any people on the planet. Contributes far more to environmental destruction than just numbers of people. We're in top 3 for resource use per capita of all OECD countries. Those bigger houses, bigger cars, high meat diets and global travel are responsible for much more resource use and destruction. I'd guess most recent migrants live a far less resource intensive life as the rest of world does compared to us. Probably diluting per capita our contemporary more profligate lifestyle.

It's how people live as much as numbers which are globally going into decline anyway for many places now

PlanktonDB

Pretty sure nominations don't close until 10 days after issue of writs, so 11th of April will be final day and draw of ballots when all candidates will be known

PlanktonDB

The differences are largely generational these days, over 65s are 60-40 for the LNP, under 35s almost the opposite. Gradient in between. This is what Newpoll and other data suggests, and this is across most of the English speaking world, the Anglosphere, I believe these days. Maybe similar in Europe and other advanced economies, similar in Germany at least. So, OK boomer is a political fracture line.

PlanktonDB

Tony Abbott was the total nong who bought Xi Jinping to the Australian parliament and praised him before signing off on a supposedly 'free trade' deal with China. He was directly involved in selling off the farm and our interests to them.

There is no more opportunistic and foolish idiot in Australia. That he was ever elected PM will be a permanent stain on the Australian populace

India is a an amazing country with a greater depth of culture than settler Australia will ever have

The notion that we have such a dickhead talking up the relationship is actually bizarre

I think the many more Indians who have come to Australia over recent decades has enriched Australia but I wish Abbott could be exported permanently to some shithole.

That we as a country feel we need to suck up to whoever we think might be the next big thing reeks of shallow insecurity as well. Like we have so little confidence in our ability to make or do something useful and valuable that isn't just sucking off whoever we're fawning over currently. Thinking we can sell them more coal perhaps?

Like China when it comes to science and tech India will just smash us in terms of their social support and culture for that. I think we have a lot less to offer India than they have to offer us as well. Despite the country's obvious issues.

Prime Minister Tony Abbott praised Chinese president Xi Jinping on his commitment to greater democracy, as both leaders celebrated the finalisation of talks on a free trade agreement.
