Can you share a few more details, when you say it "doesn't show the online page" what steps are you taking?

PrepperDisk

I think a big part of offgrid life is community. It's a blend of independence (from infrastructure) through cooperation with others. The request feels reasonable and I have a suspicion they would return with a gift to thank you, but if you asked for a favor in kind that feels appropriate too.

PrepperDisk

Good call! Thankfully it just connects my home to the proper street its address is on.

PrepperDisk

Tried this, thanks

PrepperDisk

Well the path it recommends is from a nearby street where it is plausible my driveway could connect - if the a driveway was created through the woods. In fact, the original plan (20+ years ago) was to do just that.

PrepperDisk

Exactly

PrepperDisk

Yes it is visible on satellite, I just didn’t know how a private road would be handled in directions

PrepperDisk

They never learn.

PrepperDisk

OK that's SUPER cool. Nice work.

PrepperDisk

Agreed , any local AI is far too risky for life and death situations unfortunately.  Even cloud based LLMs have deadly answers at times to “can I eat this?” Or “how to treat xyz”.

PrepperDisk

Interesting, so some items are taxed higher than ordinary income?  What’s an example?

PrepperDisk

Any sales you make on eBay are subject to income tax. They only mail a 1099 over a certain limit. The 28% rate isn't specific to the type of good sold. It isn't even definitely 28%. It is income that will be treated according to your own tax bracket, whether you have a cost basis, and other factors.

PrepperDisk

It has always been taxable income, even if you didn't get a 1099.

PrepperDisk

Can you clarify how you think a wallet attack survives Quantum?  It sounds like your supposition is that Bitcoin moves to quantum keys first.  But existing wallets would, what, need to migrate?

Looks like a super cool project. We put out the first generation Prepper Disk in 2024 and now this little niche is growing. Every day I see a new GitHub project (project NOMAD was very popular for a little while) or new device for prepping.

The new ideas and competition is a very good thing, this is an under-served market and with each new project we see new ideas and innovation. Keep it up, nice job u/detory .

Good memory - we're in Massachusetts! It is based on Internet in the Box, we actually work really closely with those guys (more to announce soon). That said we do have a lot you won't get from IIAB like licensed survival books, morse code apps, a better web experience, improved search, emergency language translator, games, curative videos on fire making + shelter + water + rescue, improved maps, and more. We've tried to take a great thing in IIAB, and make it even better.

We even published a guide showing how to make something like the Prepper Disk if anyone is interested , will check with mods before we post here to make sure its AOK.

PrepperDisk

Yes, it does fit but I find it finicky. Charges sometimes, and not others.

PrepperDisk

Great write up, water is everything. Full bathtubs when you're on a well is especially vital. Solar "generators" are helpful but obviously dependent on weather and there is a tough cross-section of bad weather + no power that can cause issues. Having a full charge on a decent sized unit (won't name brands here, but there are some good ones) helps a ton. Up here in the North East folks tend to have a gas generator but tend to be loud and messy.
