This set feels like it started as four commander decks and had the booster product glued on later. (self.magicTCG) [General Discussion]

Is that a "this card should cost more" kind of too powerful or a "this ability needs an additional cost/downside of some sort" kind of too powerful, do you think? Because the abilities feeding into each other is sort of the point of the card.

PresidentArk

The bottom left of each card will have a three-letter set code and a three-digit number. Googling the set code and the number (and maybe adding 'MTG') will typically give you the card's scryfall page as the first result.

For instance, I'm just gonna randomly say EOE card 069, and googling 'eoe mtg 069' gives me this card: https://scryfall.com/card/eoe/69/moonlit-meditation

Couldn't care less. I just want quality cards that are fun to play with, not more sets that feel like they've been rushed out the door to satisfy Hasbro shareholders.

PresidentArk

Stax. It's a deck based around all those white/blue "your opponent can't play cards/search your libraries/have fun" cards. It will make the game take 5 times as long, especially if you don't already know how to pilot Stax.

PresidentArk

Opponents, feel free to target me with that ability every time. I don't even need the cards.

PresidentArk

I mean, I would.

PresidentArk

The blue mage, with two mana open.

PresidentArk

[[Highly Illogical]], I believe.

PresidentArk

Still gets them out of your deck and triggers landfall, temporarily ramps, etc.

PresidentArk

You could also flicker the saga. If chapter III never happens, they don't get their guy back.

PresidentArk

If anything it'd be defensive only, since the intent of that ability is to mirror his combat script - he gives you as much time as you want to cast buffs, but counterattacks the first hostile move you make.

PresidentArk

I'd like to point out that if you put keyword counters on her and then proliferate her, she'll get a lot more than +1 mana per proliferate, since proliferate is +1 of each counter type on things you proliferate. Give her [[Gift of the Viper]] and in addition to immediately going up by 3, each proliferate will give an additional 3 mana on the trigger.

PresidentArk

I know this still happens. I also think it's something to do with animating Impending creatures and auras in general, as I actually remembered to submit this as a bug last week, and while checking to make sure I wasn't submitting it redundantly, I noticed a bunch of people complaining [[Puppet Crafting]] didn't work on impending creatures.

PresidentArk

The closest I can get to describing what I mean would be "For every ability of a permanent attached to Comatus that starts 'Equipped creature has', 'Equipped creature gets', 'Enchanted creature has', or 'Enchanted creature gets', treat that permanent as though it had two of that ability". The intent is to double stat bonuses.

PresidentArk

The replaced creature gets Maze of Ith'd. If it was attacking, Comatus is attacking. If it was blocking or being blocked, Comatus is now blocking or being blocked by that/those creature(s).

PresidentArk

Cheapest option is almost certainly something with changeling.

If anyone can think of a more elegant way to word either of those abilities, I'd be thrilled.

PresidentArk

You asked what rules people use for commander draft. They replied with the official rules for commander draft.

PresidentArk

It does exactly what you want: The MoC enters tapped and attacking, hits first and reduces the player to 1, and then Kaalia hits them for lethal.

This works because MoC can only be declared as an attacker solo, and Kaalia skips that part of the process.

Do note that this interaction is infamous and well-known. If you're playing Commander, everyone you play against will expect this out of you.

PresidentArk

Even in situations where your opponent has a wide enough board the edict isn't useful and that board is big enough to not immediately die to the -1/-1, I can imagine scenarios where you can swing in combat and then postcombat this on the -1/-1 mode to make what seemed like safe blocks become kills. This is excellent removal.

PresidentArk

If a mechanic is going to show up numerous times in a set, it's worth keywording that mechanic to save on card space on wordier cards. You can have the reminder text on simpler cards and leave it off of more complicated ones to save space; this usually works out since more complicated cards tend to skew to rare and mythic rare, so players opening packs for whatever reason are likely to see the word on a common or uncommon first.

I also have no idea why it would be a problem.

PresidentArk

That all sounds reasonable. Cheers. (I'm slightly biased by my usual playgroups being extremely creature-heavy)

Thinking something like -3/-3, - vigilance, hexproof -> shroud, and lose the goad. Dropping it from a 2-tap that can potentially become a 1-tap to a 3-tap that's much harder to buff into one-shot range seems reasonable. Possibly also drop one of the cards from the draw effect, and possibly scratch the generic cost in exchange for one more hybrid pip.
