Monads are not some kind of obscure math-y thing that only the big brains think are necessary. No, instead monads are a fundamental abstract algebraic description of imperative programming as a computational context. (pure-systems.org)

Book 1 chapter 37 implies that Tycho moves over time around the Nauvoo, and at that particular time it was on the side:

Tycho’s habitat rings spun serenely around the bloated zero-g factory globe in the center. The massive construction waldoes that sprouted from the top were maneuvering an enormous piece of hull plating onto the side of the Nauvoo.

Also worth considering, from chapter 17:

The name Nauvoo was painted in massive white letters

and

impressively large comm array jutting from the Nauvoo’s flank

A few more:

  • Eros has its docks in the middle instead of the ends
  • Earth's geostationary satellites revolve in more than a day
  • All stations look like Tycho
  • Pallas spins and has cities on its surface
  • lights on Luna have atmospheric flicker

It's because the waste is has value to recycling companies; as metal to melt down if nothing else. People scavenging good items reduces the value to them.

TNG did have its Trekkie haters early on: https://screenrant.com/tng-ripoff-new-star-trek-shows-fan-hate/

There is no federating by default.

Yes, there is. I'm an instance admin, and my instance federates with tens of thousands of other instances. I did not approve a single one of them. Instances that don't federate by default are a tiny minority, and Mastodon displays large warnings when they are configured this way.

I did block some instances though, like Threads (I signed the Fedipact).

Sorry but this violates Mastodon's trademark policy, which bans the word "Mastodon" in second-level domains: https://blog.joinmastodon.org/2026/08/sharing-guidelines-about-mastodons-trade-mark-policy/

This one doesn't look AI-generated though. Looking at the code it's pretty minimalist, while the vibecoded IRC clients I'm seen so far are overengineered.

That was in "Race To the Bottom", not "Do I hear $1?".

Were the maps actually inaccurate, or were they only unable to find their position on a map because of the swapped signs?

This app is to find trackers that are planted on you. Not to find your devices when you lost them.

Some people overreact to the phrasing "Am I the only one who" when they have heard the opinion before.

They have varying meaning depending on server. Usually & is "admin" (a level above op) or "protected" (ops cannot kick them) and & is "owner" (above op and "admin"). Not all servers support them.
