Exactly this!

Thank you for sharing. I'm glad you were comforted.

First, I want to tell you that I went through something very similar when I left my faith. Take a deep breath--emotions are not a sign of truth and they are not permanent. You are not alone.

Second, I want to encourage you to get a therapist--one that is trained in this specific problem. Most places do online sessions now and you can find someone experienced in existentialism and/or religious trauma. My life got much much easier to navigate once I found someone that was a trained in that area. Be honest with them.

Third, going back to Christianity won't make what they say about life and death true. Comfort in a lie is no comfort at all. It's very hard out here in the exchristian world at first but you do find your legs I promise you.

You have been through something very mentally taxing and the feelings you are having right now are very much expected. It feels like all meaning has been taken away but it hasn't. Other people deciding for you what meaning is is what is gone. Now that you are in control you get to do whatever in your life that gives you meaning. What is important to you? Charity? Teaching? Being a support to others? It's all your decision now!

I've already written a book of a post here but if you need to talk to someone, you can pm me any time. We got you.

It was my parents when I was 8 and the next Sunday I wanted to get baptized (I wOnDeR WhY) and even though I've been an atheist for 17 years now I still am traumatized by it. I guess it's good I keep my therapist in business.

Shit gave me existential OCD that I'll probably have for the rest of my life. It gets so deep into your mind at that age. Fucked me up real good.

I know it's an older game but I really like Holopoint. I get a little bit of exercise and fun and my grandma gets to pop her head in the living room and see me spinning around shooting invisible arrows at nothing. It's a win-win.

♫ Holy fucking shit ♫

I have to actively make myself stop thinking about it when it comes up. Even the thought of it takes my breath. Absolutely haunting.
