Microsoft has one of the easiest interview processes in tech.

2 months is a lifetime in AI development. Computer use got so much better with 6.1 Sol

At a previous company, we changed stacks from Java Swing to a Spring Boot backend with a React frontend. Performance gains aside, the move was motivated by the fact that there were no new developers who knew Swing. How is this any different?

I don't understand the problem here. Jensen is obviously incentivized to sell GPUs to customers who want them. At the same time he would rather build lasting relationships with customers who show loyalty.
If a company doesn't want to buy the product, then they shouldn't. Clearly they choose to buy regardless of price hikes, which only strengthens the view that the chips are price inelastic due to performance, not due to shady shit that Jensen is pulling.
Randromeda2172
No, I spent another few hours on this over the past week and no luck. I’m going to return it
Randromeda2172
Good stalking, but I exited my positions in Google and Marvell. I don’t need to hype these stocks in Reddit threads to make people buy them. I bought them last year because it was obvious where the bottleneck was.
I do think Zitron specifically is a strawman who’s been claiming LLMs hit their cliff of performance in 2024. His popularity got to his head and now he thinks everyone in any position of authority at these companies is dumber than him.
Randromeda2172
He’s not holding these companies at gunpoint and making them sign deals. The worst he can do is not sell them his cards, which is the right of any business. They’re always free to just buy AMD chips or TPUs or Trainiums or whatever.
So either you accept that the Nvidia GPUs are inherently valuable and provide an advantage which companies are willing to pay for during periods of scarcity so they can use them once the infrastructure is up, or that everyone at these companies is just scared of Jensen catching them in an alley with some goons.

My point isn’t that all these jobs only consist of creating reports or whatnot, and that they can be completely replaced with AI. The point is that this is what “economically valuable“ work looks like, and is exactly the kind of thing AI can do faster than people.

They're great at coding, but also for drafting docs and presentations, fetching and summarizing information from different sources, and brainstorming. Most white collar jobs today are some variation of the above three. There are entire industries where people are tasked with just reading numbers from an excel sheet and then collating that into a slide deck.
That can all be done with AI today.

The students studying on campus are cheating through their degrees as well.

2 years ago, the level of code produced by AI was laughable. I wonder what we'll think 2 years from now

I have also read the Ed Zitron article, but it really doesn't hold up to scrutiny. Why are the largest companies in the world buying GPUs hand over fist. Do they not know that the server racks don't exist yet? Do the Metas or Amazons of the world just forget that the GPUs are expensive, or is it actually that Jensen Huang is the boogeyman who can somehow force multi trillion dollar businesses to buy cards?
Or maybe the people running the largest companies in the world have thought about this for longer than the average guy on Reddit. Everything we know about LLMs seems to indicate that scaling laws hold up, and the only thing stopping AI from getting better is more compute and data. The past 4 years of research shows this in very obvious terms.
It makes perfect sense for companies to buy the compute when they can. There is no profit yet because we are still very early. LLMs only really got good enough at coding a year ago, and this year they've generalized to math. Physics is an obvious next step, and biology comes soon too. A company with more compute can do more with that compute than just selling ads.
Randromeda2172
If only one company in the world had access to LLMs, do you not think that they would outclass basically every other company in their domain? They would build faster, ship more, and likely do it for cheaper.
The 10x revenue thing doesn’t hold up if every other company you compete with also ships at the same pace. All it takes is one company in every sector to fully onboard and others will have to adopt so they don’t get left behind.

First the immigrants exploit the loophole of studying at Canadian institutions for points. Then they exploited the loophole of working for Canadian companies and paying taxes. Now, how dare they exploit the loophole of learning one of the two official languages to the point of fluency.

Most programming subreddits are being astroturfed hard by tech bros
Fork found in kitchen. No shit that programming subreddits are frequented by people working in tech. There is a difference between working in big tech where you're expected to adopt new tools and constantly justify your employment via performance, versus smaller shops where you get to coast because nobody else is looking to do your job.

Learning. There is no pride in holding on to your inefficient architecture if there is an obviously better way to do it and you have the resources to do it

Not much management can do when the only launch vehicle with capacity to take your satellites up fucking hiroshimas off the coast of New York.

Wait so you get one bedroom in a larger unit for 1000? That’s literally market rate. How old are you and how long have you been in tech?

OP is surprised that a company cancelled a contract for a data center when that data center can’t be turned on for 4 more years.

Memory is the main bottleneck. 16 GB is enough for most cases, but if you can afford it 24 GB will serve you well in the longer run. Memory prices are cucked right now so if base is all you can afford then go for it.
Edit: use bun instead of npm
Randromeda2172
I think if you're alive and have the ability to see and/or read, you'd know about all three of those
CXMT is already making headlines for charging the same as what other memory makers are charging
