How do you like that hood? I bounce between thinking it's tacky and thinking it's neat.

RealAstropulse

Happens. Mine had it's coolant tank crack and dumped coolant onto the engine block. It's because the plastics they use just turn into powder.

Get it replaced, swap what pipes you can to aluminum, do your services. It's a great car.

RealAstropulse

Are you certain it's an engine knock and not the supercharger pulley coupler? They can sound very similar.

Coolant in the oil is not a good sign of course.

RealAstropulse

Very cool :)

You totally can rip it through back roads, but the feel is very different. You're more cautious in the corners and flooring it in the straights. Not as bad as something like a 350/370/400z, those cars corner horribly, but it is more of a consideration than the miata or 86. Also, if you do hit something its going to really hurt your wallet, so thats always in the back of your mind when you're pushing it. Same reason why expensive cars make poor track cars.

If you really love tearing around back roads and destroying tires, I'd for sure go with something less expensive than an F-Type, because you'll probably enjoy it more.

RealAstropulse

When the f-type breaks, and it will break, it will be expensive to fix. You also NEED to do preventative maintenance, it's not like a japanese car (miata) where you can just do an oil change and some break work every now and then, it actively needs you to take care of it and have it serviced if you want to keep it from accumulating more expensive problems.

The coolant y-pipe work is important, but other things may fail first. I just had my coolant overflow reservoir go for no reason, dumped coolant on the engine. Y-pipe was fine (I had the whole system checked and replaced since it was in the shop anyways).

The electrical problems are also real. I tried a few different batteries before I found one that stayed in good condition and the car was happy with.

Tires are obscenely expensive if you want good ones. Those 295's in the rear are baby supercar width and you pay the price for it.

Now, all that said, if the price of the car is in your budget, and you can account for another $2k-$5k/year in servicing, it's absolutely worth it. I can't think of a better car for the price. I owned a Toyota GT86 that I absolutely loved, and when it was totaled I bought an F-Type V6 S and have never enjoyed a car more, both looking at it and driving it.

Since the GT86 is in the same general class as am mx5 I'll give some comparisons from a driving standpoint:

You will not want to fling around the F-Type, even if you can. It's substantially more heavy, and even though its cornering is nice, it is not flickable like a miata or an 86. You have power and grip, you are not nimble. I break the tires loose pretty often but it is much more of a commitment than with the 86. You decide "I'm going to swing the back end" and plan for it, unlike with a lighter sports car where you can just do it "because you can".

It is LOUD. I had a TRD exhaust on my 86 and sometimes felt bad coming home later at night when the neighbors were asleep. It was nothing compared to the F-Type. Even with the valves closed, it is still a loud car, both outside and in the cabin.

Overtaking is wonderful. I live in an area with a lot of slow drivers and small highways, in the 86 I could overtake in passing lanes, but it required some planning. With the F-Type I can do it whenever there is an opening, which is very nice.

Space is very limited in the cabin. Coming from an MX5 it won't be a huge difference, but from my 86 I missed having a half back seat to throw things in. Can't even fit my water bottle in the cabin except dropping it in the passenger seat/floor when I can.

I genuinely miss a lot of the driving experience of my GT86, even though the F-Type has substantially more power. They are different kinds of experiences. An mx5 is a sports car, low commitment, nimble, constantly pushing it's limits, while the F-Type is planted, powerful, loud, and expensive.

RealAstropulse

Very nice car. Almost as nice as a jaguar f type.

RealAstropulse

Yes, it is. Which is why you should use a model build for pixel art instead XD

RealAstropulse

I literally said the results aren't great lmao

RealAstropulse

I bought a "VIOFO A229 Pro 4K HDR" and it's been great. Quality is high enough to read street signs, license plates, etc. Night time performance isn't amazing but it does the job.

One note is that any dash cam you wire up with a passive mode, you will want to leave the car on a trickle charger over long periods. Found that if I set mine up to be passive it sucked down enough voltage for the car to leave some systems running and it would drain the battery.

Form factor of this cam is really nice though, it takes up almost no visibility if you put it on the opposite side of the rear view mirror from the drivers seat (good for a car with not great visibility to start with), and the rear facing one is very low profile.

RealAstropulse

I wouldn't go for it. Look for a v6.

RealAstropulse

This was 5 years ago so almost certainly not.

Move to android, IOS is not worth jailbreaking.

RealAstropulse

This is fine for illustration/vector style animations, but it doesn't really do pixel art.

For that you want to be using retro diffusion or something else that actually respects the pixel grid and the snappy motion style.

Like this one made in retro diffusion with loops and actions and segments.

RealAstropulse

I wrote an article about this a while ago:
Most recent (talks about animation) https://x.com/RealAstropulse/status/2039341997639565586
Older one on reddit https://www.reddit.com/r/StableDiffusion/comments/1i6k7pp/lets_talk_about_pixel_art/

RealAstropulse

Use Retro Diffusion instead, you get a lot more control and it's not a subscription. Happy to help you figure out the best way to use it too.

RealAstropulse

I love this so much. Always happy to see projects with good art direction. So many devs who use AI for games have little to no artistic taste, but this is lovely.

Reminds me of guild of dungeoneering, love that game.

RealAstropulse

OOD and most suppliers use PC tubes

RealAstropulse

Nice work hugo this looks great!

RealAstropulse

I guess we all doing pixel converters now.

You should benchmark it against some of the industry standards: https://github.com/Retro-Diffusion/pixel-bench

RealAstropulse

Thanks!

RealAstropulse

Lol benchmark it, I've made the benchmarking suite open, be my guest.

RealAstropulse

The ouput texture depends on the 'pixels' in the input, if your input has off-ratio pixels, the fixer will find that and correct it. Basically, you may need a better input image.

RealAstropulse

Made it with suno :)
