I appreciate the understanding. Don’t view it as abandoning those principles, just adapting them to a radically different environment in which they were forged.

Current shortcoming of AI is volition…simply art. Why does a human want this? What could I do if I could do anything…current AGI is still uninspired.

The “Why?”…that’s the human thing for now.

These tools automate the rote, allowing learners to explore more of the core reasons and freedoms that comes with competency of the fundamentals (removes the apprenticeship requirements). The secret then is inspiring and motivating growth in the more aspirational and innovative areas.

Maybe not, but what I am saying is unless we figure out a way to teach with the technology, the school boards will be paying pennies an hour to educators far more capable, and far more replaceable that ourselves, much sooner than your pension or paycheck wanted.

AGI is right now on your students’ phones and connected to most systems they interact with. They talk to it more than you, trust it, etc.

Simply put, AGI is “right under your nose.” For ASI (there’s a difference), that’s only at a few frontier labs right now, and they’re working out the kinks.

With this being r/teachers, I will fill in some missing info to be helpful (my background is CompSci, btw). Statistically, average IQ is supposed to be 100. A-General-Intelligence would then need to meet that criteria (which LLMs have done for a couple years now…matches or exceeds humans on a wide range of tasks).

ASI, what you’re looking for, is intelligence orders of magnitude above human (like IQ 150 to 200, and again, that’s operational privately). Motivated students now have access to 130 to 150 IQ models (depending on parents pockets).

Don’t look for Einstein when Trump is what you got. By the time Einstein comes back around, those kids will be cooked.

No. This generation will be stuck at whatever grade they are now. Fund the system, modernize it. Or admit defeat and bail.
