Any time I need to upgrade something to a new OS version. Just having to reconfigure everything etc can be long and tedious. I don't like just copying the config files verbatim as sometimes syntax, location of files, amount of files etc changes between distros. Things like apache, postfix and dovecot have especially changed a lot in the past few years so an old config would not work.

I recently updated my key to 6 just to stay ahead of the game. More secure than 4 and even 5, because it's a bigger number.

For internet facing stuff like my web server when I deploy a new server the first thing I do is copy my local ~/.ssh/id_rsa.pub file to the server's ~/.ssh/authorised_keys file (need to create)
I then test login to make sure the key works. (shouldn't prompt for a password)
Once that works I go in /etc/ssh/sshd_config on the new server and set PasswordAuthentication to no. Then service ssh restart. Sometimes it's sshd.
With that done password login is no longer possible, just make sure you have a couple different machines where you added the id_rsa.pub file from for redundancy.
Another thing I also do is change the default port in sshd_config. This is 100% security through obscurity and is not safe on it's own, but it greatly cuts down on bot traffic, and in the event of a vulnerability does buy you more time to patch as most bots are only going to bother checking the default port.
If you need to keep password authentication then fail2ban is also a must, otherwise it's not if you get hacked, but when. I don't understand why SSH doesn't have brute force protection built in honestly.

That is one of the downsides of being alone. I have off grid land so I always tell my family when I go there alone, but something could easily happen at home where it would take a while for someone to realize something went wrong and come looking for me. I work shift work too so sometimes get a week+ of time off depending how the schedule works out.
I just turned 40 so as I get older I find myself being way more cautious even with small things like getting in the shower. It's scary how fast your life can change even over something silly like slipping. Very common in winter too. I've had close calls when we get freezing rain and then snow and I don't realize how slippery it is below the snow.

Woah, that's like at least 1% of the total inventory of RPIs lol.
I'd keep a couple for the usual type of projects and sell the rest.
One thing I've been meaning to do is up my home automation game and will be using a couple RPIs to run GPIO off of. Found some adapters that allow to extract POE power so I can have them self powered off POE at each location that will have automated stuff.

Keep going! Long red hair always looks great. I'm a red head too and always had short hair, decided to grow it out, 7-8ish years ago and wish I had done it sooner!

Yeah this is very controlling. It also seems to me that it would create situations where people are getting married without fully getting to know each other. Some people will date for years before they decide to marry, especially at a younger age. Faithful people will not enter a sexual relationship. Sometimes it happens, and yes it's a sin, but that's between both parties and God, not the pastor imo.

The price of a basic desert like a chocolate cake always is crazy to me. The cakes they get are usually very good, but for the price of one piece I can literally go buy a whole cake from the local bakery.

Those enclosures look so cool, I figured it was something new and was going to make a comment about how that probably costs more than my house. But guess according to comments is very old. I guess with today's storage prices it actually makes sense to dig up this old stuff lol.

To be fair this sort of thing could easily happen on grid, where you just get a round of bad luck with appliances that decide to break all at once or what not.

If there's earthquakes you want the building to be able to move separate from the ground, as one unit. So I would lay down some pavers or similar, then build a very beefy foundation ton top of that, do not fasten it down. Ideally the foundation should be strong enough that if it's lifted by one corner it won't buckle at all. This kind of takes care of earthquakes and frost heave.
I have yet to build anything going down to frost level myself as it requires heavy equipment which I don't have so I tend to just float everything on the ground. I don't have to worry about earthquakes where I am so I build a little high off the ground, gives me room to insert a jack so I can level it if it shifts.

Honestly this would be neat as an actual legit product, need a basic boot drive for a system but don't want to spend insane money, you can just put a SD card that you already own and boot off that.

I like doing drywall, not so much the sanding part though lol. Hair and beard looks great though!

If it comes to that I'm quitting and making my own Reddit. With blackjack and hookers.
I'm partially serious. Reddit has lot of issues but with the site itself and the administration that keep making me want to build an alt platform and it could be a fun project. Recently got a BS 3 day ban over an opinion post. No explanation, just instant ban. They don't even tell you what post caused it. the post gets deleted but you have no way of knowing what it was or why you got banned over it. Had it happen a few times now. My platform would not ban people for their opinion. And if people do get banned they would actually be given a reason.

NGL it would be kinda tempting if I had a big yard.
If they did this as 4U nodes I'd consider putting a few in my rack, provided there's zero strings attached, like no need to use apps or any sort of spy tech. Provide power and internet, and get paid. There is one company doing something similar but they require you use a smart electrical panel. I'm not doing smart anything especially not electrical panel.

Same here. Firefox on Linux Mint. Old Reddit.
A call to https://www.reddit.com/api/morechildren goes 403.

Honestly this seems like a terrible design from the get go if the boiler requires to be manually monitored and interacted with that closely just so it doesn't explode. Even RBMK reactors are more stable than that lol.
RedSquirrelFtw
At least it was on private property and only the gearbox got screwed up, so that's a win!

Wish this was something part of the listing sites like MLS. Be nice if you can just filter out properties with restrictions, and that all the data was in fact correct. Like if you're not allowed to collect rain water, or need permit to build, or can't build bigger than X size etc all that should be a check box. Here in Canada as much as our government seems to always be trying to restrict our lives in some way or the other, the land related rules tend to be a bit more sane, and we do have unorganized township where you're almost free to do what you want. So when I was searching I made sure to buy in such township. Taxes are also fixed at $100/year.

I would just try to design it so those things can't all run at once. Maybe some sort of automation with contactors that ensures none can start at once, or something. Or just manually turn things off before other things are turned on. Like if you're going to use power tools turn off the pump and fridge, and so on.
Of course if budget allows then I'd design for worse case scenario so you don't need to worry, and you can never have too much power, anyway.

Part of the fun of building is coming up with a plan yourself. Figure out how big you want to go for the whole build, create a grid in excel or something and just start experimenting with wall and door placements and such. Lookup dimensions of common appliances like stove, fridge, bathroom vanity, toilet, shower etc and make some movable shapes to match and just play around with it.

I think it looks good, I sometimes like to let my beard grow but I end up going back to short eventually. My hair is past my shoulders now. Have not decided how much longer to go, so just letting it keep going for now lol.
RedSquirrelFtw
Below ear level is fairly shorter than shoulders though, best to physically show them how much you want to cut off. I always specify I want to keep my hair long as well so they don't try to do anything that will shorten it too much, and I just want a bit of a maintenance trim.
I actually go to a barbershop, it's usually one of 2 old guys who works there that ends up doing mine but they actually do a decent job and understand I'm keeping it long.
I'd be worried about conscription. Same with Ukraine. Ideally want a country that doesn't have that.
