I think one of the things the film is doing is demonstrating how focusing on one thing blurs one's ability to comprehend the whole. It's not directly stated but is the entire concept of the film's advertising.

Focusing on a single detail is how a scammer tries to claim innocence and legitimacy.

Arguing over "can" vs "could" is distracting from the whole situation. EH can fuss over a word printed by the NYT but it doesn't change anything about the whole picture.

What is the whole picture?

EH is a fraudster who communicated well enough to defraud investors out of millions. She was able to hire experienced business people and staff. She was hailed as a technical genius and boosted into the public consciousness with a face (and odd voice) which launched a thousand media releases.

She was clearly so intelligent, she didn't need no education to invent a world-changing medical device and start roping in major corporations and flirt with government agencies.

Bring in Nathan Fielder, leering skepticism and doubt based on the facts of her crimes, asking her "you're smart right? Like, really smart?" then following up by creating a space in which she chose to double down on being unable to understand foundational vocabulary.

Later in the film, the directors included a reenactment portraying EH reading her own writing, after which the men patronize her bad prose until she leaves the room so the men can talk men stuff. They didn't have to show that, let alone make it. But it's in there and it's not flattering to EH.

Here is the great genius communicator fumbling a trite, sappy love scene as part of a pretend memoir.

Miss 2014's super-genius billionaire girl boss was an invention by a person who never speaks with any precision of the tech she supposedly invented (until it was necessary to blame her employees) but is very strongly adamant that she did nothing wrong, never lies (until argued into admitting it while she dances around as if she doesn't understand his question), is too stupid to understand why she is where she is, and can't understand why opening up her life to a film crew probably wasn’t a genius move.

I mean, does the film humanize the suffering of going into prison and splitting a family? Sure, because well-rounded adults should be able to feel sympathy where there is suffering even when that suffering was caused by one's own terrible behavior.

But the film is not rehabbing a super-genius STEM gal who can be trusted with a dollar.

It's not giving misunderstood genius, it's not arguing she was victimized and used by her ex, it's not showing us she was wronged.

It's showing us she isn't smart enough to evade direct questioning while keeping her invented image of a misunderstood genius.

The film shows us how she just reacts by responding to the immediate moment instead of having any sort of strategy and if that makes her look like she doesn't understand single syllable words, someone else is gonna have to make the misunderstood genius who can invent profit costume make sense.

You gotta zoom out to see everything.

You gotta look at the overall nested structures of the film and stop picking at singular moments if you want to understand both EH and this film.

IMO, if the directors made a misstep, it was assuming too much of the audience.

All the nitpicking over turkey jerky, swimming, and a faux “behind the scenes” script change played for the camera really is trapping a lot of people in some strange places.

To suggest Bill Gates didn’t engage in exploitation to get people to lock into Windows is as funny as suggesting that Bill Gates was necessary to ever have a GUI over DOS.

A lot of retired people and people approaching retirement are technically millionaires because they bought a house for $200k in California, New York, or other expensive area in the 90’s and it’s appreciated to $700k-1.3mil in value today.

Add in a 401k they’ve been plugging part of their income into for 30 years and you have millions of 60-70somethings with a paper value exceeding a million. It’s not liquid cash and a cancer diagnosis could wipe it out pretty easily but there are more of these millionaires in the US than there are 8 digit millionaires enjoying not worrying about money while spending luxe.

Just a note: GGT doesn’t run directly between Sonoma county and SF anymore.

There’s a transfer in San Rafael; the San Rafael train stop is next to the bus transfer station. I believe there’s a GGT bus transfer, too.

If you don’t get a notice soon saying it’s been received, make a plan to go vote on a provisional ballot before or on Election Day.

Drink a beverage and you’re drinking water.

Unflavored water isn’t necessary if other beverages are being drunk.

Reference_Freak

You’ve seen the demographics of people most likely to vote, yea?

Reference_Freak

This is obviously not the same scene. There are many differences but I’ll just ask where the spray paint on the road went.

Reference_Freak

Why do you think that?
CA DMV under “Right Turns” https://www.dmv.ca.gov/portal/handbook/california-driver-handbook/navigating-the-roads/

CA drivers are instructed to turn into the nearest lane possible unless in a multi-lane turn (then instructed to stay in lane).

They look like they’re going in opposite directions and exhibiting poor teamwork.

It’s a part of the k-beauty trend and has been popular for a few years at least.

However, it’s just like “natural beauty” and “no make-up” trends: there’s a metric shitton of product forcing the result and it looks different from the actual natural, no effort version.

It’s also the same as tiktok beauty trends in general: looks fine, even maybe pretty, close up to a camera with ideal lighting; looks goofy af irl or in a real world context.

Now tighten it up so it looks like there’s nothing between it and the skull.

A little bit of shine is fine but the shiny skin and bones look is concerning.

No. A test of a relationship is if you fall together or fall apart in a crisis moment.

He fell away and attacked you in your moment of crisis.

No matter how tired and stressed a person might be, all will be replaced by terrible news affecting their partner if they genuinely cared.

The dude was generally ok with it because she’s the one doing the work.

If she doesn’t want to do the work and he seems unlikely to help, they should sell the handful of properties they’re renting out.

Or at least fucking rent them for people to live in.

No, they upgraded the gaskets on later 2014.

I don’t have a link but if you look, there’s a tool which will tell you if your VIN is before or after.

The upgraded gaskets do not prevent the head gasket issue if your car is likely to have it (seemingly relatively few actually do; perception of occurrence is exaggerated because owners are less likely to start a discussion about it not happening).

When my gen 1 was in the shop, a friend and I climbed in a V when it was new.

My initial reaction was annoyance because it felt like a minivan.

I now own one 😭

Be predictable.

Doing the less common thing because it’s “technically legal” when most drivers were taught to not do it makes you an unpredictable driver.

Go outside. Meet new people.

Some people put that shit in their profiles to give you a summary of how they like to see themselves.

Now find the “obsession”

There are some but irl most aren’t.

I’ve never heard of “forensic astrology.”

I’m a lefty woman you don’t know. Pretty sure there are a lot of us who aren’t into woo nonsense.

I’m old enough to think cute means something like a Neon or a Bug.

I prefer ugly reliables.

Composting bodies has become legal in some states for the near-ultimate low energy body disposition.

Unfortunately it will be treated like a proprietary process so it’s basically funeral dollarmaxxing atm.

I wash weekly or change weekly and wash 2 sets together.

When I went to my late dad’s place, it was pretty clear he probably hadn’t changed or wash his sheets in months. They had to be trashed.

Reference_Freak

I do. Wallet-changing.
