I did the pills for the first time in September. It was much easier than the nasty drink from days of yore. I have had a few colonoscopies, and without a doubt the pill prep was the easiest. Everyone tells you not to trust a fart, but no one’s mentioned sometimes you fart when you’re asleep. Always better safe than sorry. Good luck, and enjoy the wonderful nap!

Take care of your body, this includes your teeth. It’s easier to maintain a healthy body than to try to regain one. Teeth are important to overall health, and repair gets more expensive as you get older. Happy early birthday! You are getting a lot of great advice here. If you follow 1/10th of it, you’ll be doing better than most.

You don’t need to justify wanting something better for yourself. My advice is to find a therapist and learn to love yourself again. We’re taught that it has to be a horrible situation before we can leave, but it’s not true. You can leave because you don’t see a future in this situation. Follow your instincts; you know what you want and need. Trust yourself. You are going to do just fine.

“Women like her never learn.”

What a vile statement. With one statement, you strip away OP’s identity as an individual and stereotype her into a group incapable of growth. Your lack of empathy and innate misogyny is gross.

I have been seeing Patricia Grade at North Scottsdale Women’s Health for a decade. She is very personable and good at answering questions.

NTA. I know it hurts because she is your mother, but she told you where you and your family rank in her list of priorities. This truth is painful, but it allows you to refocus your energy on people who value your company. Six years is a long time to hold space for someone who didn’t believe you deserved a phone call.

NTA, but you married one. Your husband has acquired a level of pettiness found in people who thoroughly detest their family. I would reconsider my marriage to this man. It feels like you have enough challenges without a partner who has to prove he is right and mete out consequences, yet offers no help. You don’t have two children; you have three. I’m disappointed for you.

You got this! I’m 58 years old, and more than 90% of everything in life is just showing up. You have already done more than most people would do. Try the community college…I have a feeling you are going to be a great success.

You have a wife problem in that her fear is making her selfish, cruel, and thoughtless. This is your mother, not some stranger. Your wife is behaving as if the world revolves around her. It was vile to ask your sister to reschedule for no reason. Likely your sister has enough on her mind. Who does that?! Who bans their MIL from their home because she's ill. I would seriously reconsider my vows of a lifetime to this person.

Oof. I missed that. It was a two month wait to get in with him.

Wait until after taxes to give her anything. Decades ago, my friend won a game with a stranger in a casino, and promptly handed him half of the winnings - $1250. Later, when she had to pay taxes on the entire amount, she was less than pleased.

I had my annual colonoscopy with Dr. Harris this month (family history). He came in to see me before and after the procedure. The pill prep was the easiest one yet. I’m still a huge fan of his. Not much has changed, IMHO. He’s a great doctor.

Check out r/findapath They usually have a good group of brainstormers

Also, don’t focus on what negative things could happen, because it becomes a self fulfilling prophecy. It seems really weird, especially when you’re in the middle of the crap, but tell yourself good stories instead of negative ones. Instead of what would happen if things go wrong by the new year, tell yourself about the new job you will have. Think about the health insurance and the benefits to get you the physical help you need. You have a lot more knowledge than you think, and more opportunities come around when you’re looking up. Job costing is probably an alternative career path. You know how to use a lot of tools, so maybe instruction or safety training? I think you have a lot of options. Your local community college would have free career testing. Good luck!

My first born child passed away in 2001. Three weeks later, I discovered I was pregnant again and named my daughter “Life,” albeit in a different language. The name was very special to me, because that child saved me during the most difficult time of my existence.

Fifteen years later, my daughter became my son and renounced the name I gave him. Initially, I was devastated. The transition didn’t bother me, but the name change gutted me. My therapist reminded me that a name is a gift we give our children, and like any other gift, they have the right to reject it. My son chose his gender identity and his name. A decade later, he’s a phenomenal man and we’re still close.

I tell you this to gently remind you this is her transition, not yours. Yeah, YWBTA. Part of being autonomous enough to choose a gender identity comes with the freedom to select a new name. Her transition is not a second chance for you to rename your child. Do not dismiss her growth by imposing your will; she’s no longer a baby. Her courage earned her the right to select her name. Take this moment to celebrate her, not thinking about yourself. There will be many wonderful memorable mother daughter moments to come if you let her bloom as she wishes. Good luck 🍀

Serious question: If OP didn’t disclose her use of AI, would you have known? It’s not lost on me that in a women’s subreddit, the question was absolutely avoided in favor of telling her how sad it was she didn’t use her brain. I was under the impression this subreddit existed to encourage other women, not to tear them down.

I wouldn’t believe him if he swore he was lying. Keep your $5000. Abolish ICE and release the Epstein files.

Old CIS woman here. My figure has kept me from being misgendered, and I don’t go out of my way to look feminine. I think it’s might make me self conscious if I were mistaken for a man, particularly now that I’m post-menopausal. Being a woman, for better or worse, is a big part of who I am. It’s an integral part of my identity. My life would have been very different if I had been born a man. So, I think I would not be able to handle being misgendered on a daily basis. I don’t make “man money” so let’s at least get my gender right.

My eldest (AFAB) son started expressing discomfort with his body around puberty. It was a difficult period, but a decade later, he is thriving and happy. I think his transition helped our family to be more open minded and accepting, in general. My youngest son has been misgendered more times than I can remember. His hair is longer, his figure is very slender, and he has delicate features like his sister. It doesn’t bother him at all when we’re greeted with, “Hello, ladies.” I know, because I used to correct people, until he told me it wasn’t necessary. “Why make someone feel uncomfortable when they’re never going to see me again?” Finally, my daughter donated her hair one year and had a very short haircut. I mentioned I was surprised that it didn’t bother her being called “young man.” She said she knew she was a girl, and that’s all that mattered. They are all far more mature than I was at their age.

Pet names like “darling” and “little lady” make my skin crawl, because they’re patronizing and demeaning. I believe men who use those terms know exactly how condescending they are. Now that I’m over 50, many younger people call me Miss Repulsive. It feels weird, but it doesn’t bother me; it’s said with respect. I think you should do whatever feels genuine and authentic to you. Everyone else can pound sand. Definitely try the abbreviated version of your name. Maybe a haircut in increments, so you can see if you like it shorter. Life is too short to spend it being uncomfortable. You deserve to have the best life experience you can, whatever it looks like. Good luck!

This was my strategy during my divorce. His new lover decided he needed an attorney instead of honoring the agreement we came to together. So, every time I had a question, I called his attorney to ask. Every time he pissed me off, I had a question. AP didn’t want him to pay child support, and ex didn’t want to sign the paperwork. It dragged on far longer than was necessary, until I got mean. Turn the tables; when you make life miserable for him, you’ll get the divorce. He has no incentive when he has everything. Tell him you changed your mind, and renegotiate everything. Move back in. Take back your power. You got this.

Repulsive_Location

NTA, and she’s not your person. Take it from a twice divorced old lady - A sustainable relationship doesn’t involve one person shrinking to manage the insecurities of their partner. Go to med school. Become a doctor. The right relationship will support you and your dreams.
