I came here to make pretty much this exact comment; glad to see yours was at the very top. Ψ

Yeah I thought that was it, but couldn't find the info to back it up on a quick search

Gaellivare- Gulliver’s travels?
This is a reference to Gällivare, a location in Sweden. I can't remember if there's any special Arrowhead significance
RetroRocker
Just don't watch "The Watch". It's an abomination. The others are great
RetroRocker
Arrowhead: Here's a free gun for Liberty Day!!
Players: WAHHH it doesn't have a bayonet WAAHHHHHH
I fucking hate this place
RetroRocker
Is that a Space SA80?? In my Democracy simulator?? It's more likely than you think!
RetroRocker
Everything in game was "stateful"
...what the fuck are you talking about?
It's fucking stupid that everyone is going around saying that the cancelled game that will never see the light of day can fucking cure cancer or some shit, but at least the claims made sense?
This is bordering on pure parody at this point.

Upvote purely for SHODAN

The amount of players that just don't check the map is ridiculous. "Where are we going?" "Where's my equipment" "where are the enemies coming from" by God just look at the fucking map!!

When they announced the Illuminate (and the FRV) at the video game awards, and we all rushed to dive on Calypso, that was incredible. And then later, the invasion of Super Earth. Awesome.

They took their sweet fucking time about it. Site's been a shithole for AGES. I think this is too little, too late.

I came into the comments expecting an absolute shitshow and I was correct to think so

I feel like I've been seeing this exact same meme every few months for at least 6 years

Not gonna lie, the title "Mass Effect Universe" makes me think of an MMO more than anything
RetroRocker
That's because Alan Wake thinks he's Stephen King but he's actually Garth Merenghi.

Yep, the reboot Tomb Raider games really ran the formula into the ground exceptionally quickly. I had a very similar experience of playing the third one; suddenly realising that I didn't give a single shit anymore and that no force on earth would compel me to continue to play it after having completed the main story.
It's a shame they absolutely refused to do anything but repeat the exact same thing three games in a row. Just ended up being utterly uninspired. There's no way I'm ever watching that movie either lol
RetroRocker
Valid. Being a pirate and doing pirate stuff is the main draw of the game; The actual assassin stuff is just the same as it ever was.

The very, very first game? Uhhh I was very, very young at the time, but it's got to be the original Doom. The difference between that and the previous id game, Wolfenstein 3D, is massive. And there was only one year between them.
Wolf3D had uniform lighting, only the walls were textured, and the walls could only be at 90° from each other. And the sound was extremely basic. 1992.
Doom had variable sector based lighting (that could turn on and off), fully textured surfaces on walls, floors and ceilings, walls could be at any angle, floors and ceilings could vary in height, sound was directional and dynamic, not to mention the awesome music. 1993.
I guess young gamers these days will never properly understand what it was like living through the years where technology was developing at the rate where games were constantly breaking new ground in huge ways every few months. Not like the incremental differences these days. Compare 1990 to 2000, or 2000 to 2010. We'll never see the like again.

Iirc this was the last ever PC game I ever bought new on a physical disc. You know, back when pre-orders were actually necessary because otherwise you wouldn't be able to get a copy. I pre-ordered it from GAME, which doesn't exist anymore. I actually had to go to the shop in person to collect it. Seems weirdly old fashioned now. When Arkham Knight came out I just bought it on Steam.

Yes! I used to be a big fan of the MDK games. I mean, I guess I still am, but it's been 26 years since the last one, sooo

A hell of a thing to read just as I'm going through my first ever playthrough of Mass Effect (via the Legendary Edition).
Though from what I've been hearing about the studio for the last few years, it's hardly surprising.
RetroRocker
Welp, that definitely sounds like me
It's usually amnesia
