Hi Jack, I'm having problems with my Planck on iOS 11 on iPad Air 2. I keep getting random restarts of the iPad when the Planck is plugged in and idle. It doesn't happen when I'm typing. Any idea what could be going on??

In fact it’s not the case that that’s what I’m after. I’m sure you remember the term “token black guy,” where writers would do just what you’re suggesting and as the Canadian Public Service is doing with its hiring policy favoring women and minorities. It would be ridiculous in popular culture to have one-dimensional, stereotypical ethnic-minority characters only put there to check off a box on a little checklist (which is just what was happening in the 90s).

I want a mixed-race Incredibles...where race issues NEVER COME UP IN THE FILM. Because THAT’S what everyday life is like for most people of ethnic minority in North America. It’s extremely rare, but if you look closely at most of Will Smith’s movies (Hancock, Independence Day, Wild Wild West,for example) you’ll see that they could have easily been played believably by a white actor with the right character acting talent. He’s never been the “token black guy.” This is the sort of culture I’d like to see more of.

Speaking of culture, your comment in your original comment about black/white culture is part of the problem. Don’t you see you’re unfairly painting “white culture” as victim?? The problem is that “white culture” is more deeply engrained in civilization; “black culture” is not. “Black culture” tells stories of their survival against centuries of oppression by whites, and tells of course other stories. When whites appropriate it and dissociate the thing (a way of dressing, singing, talking, etc.) from that history it’s a tacit way of saying, “your struggles were ridiculous and we don’t take them seriously.” The other way around it’s not the case, because the things minorities take from the whites, are not symbols of your struggle against those very minorities. When white kids that had no ghetto in their history wear their jeans baggy, they’re taking a cultural element that tells the story of generations of blacks that feel (rightly or not) they’ve been born into a cycle of crime, imprisonment and poverty, and saying to those black people “we don’t care about your feelings or your history, we just want to look trendy—and when the trend dies we’ll throw our baggy jeans in the trash, along with your feelings and your history. Along with your cultural identity. Along with your worth to civilization.”

Is the Incredibles a cultural symbol of a bitter struggle in “white” history against oppression by blacks?? Is this black family spitting on that history by wearing the costumes and making funny faces? No, of course not. But Miley Cyrus did spit on black culture and history with her infamous show. This is the failure of your initial argument, and this is the view I hope you change, before you continue to spit on the bitter history and richly layered identities of ethnic and cultural minorities that, at the hands of a white, Northern, European culture, have been prevented from making their own mark on civilization.

In fact I didn’t judge you at all, I said your argument was thinly veiled racism and was shit...smart people can say stupid things sometimes, maybe that’s you, who knows? So you’re Canadian? How do your refugee-friendly political leanings line up with the false victim ideology in “...openly racist/etc. ...to white men...”? I really don’t see it.

I think BLM and Antifa are the worst of the movement to end racism, but I don’t for a second think white men are being victimized just because they happen to be the butt of a few jokes at the moment. It’s interesting how the jokes stop when they stop playing the victim...

You know what, I think not even all HUMANS perceive the passage of time at the same rate. I have a theory that certain personality types (ex. mine) do not perceive the passage of time at all...I feel like I just pick up on environmental cues and then backtrack from there...
