Weird. I swear it was the old one when I looked the other day.

RhombusObstacle

I kind of enjoy the symmetry of "the only bosses you MUST kill are the two dragons."

RhombusObstacle

Yeah, but being able to skip the Fader fight was nice while it lasted. Now you need the Embers to get any form of Bloodgold.

This is going to sound dismissive, but I don’t mean it that way: it depends on the person. So there’s no general advice that’s guaranteed to help with your situation.

What you can do, though, is ask your girl about it. Don’t do it while she’s in the middle of a problem. That’s the exact wrong timing, because if she’s dealing with Problem X already, and you ask how she wants you to behave in these moments, now explaining that has become Problem Y, so you’re not helping in the moment, you’re compounding the stress.

Instead, find a time when you’re both relatively unstressed, and ideally not hungry. Tell her you what you said here, that you want to be supportive but aren’t sure what the best way to do that is. And then ask “are there specific words or actions that would make you feel heard/supported when stressful stuff comes up? Words/actions I should avoid, because they make things worse?” Assure her she doesn’t need to have an answer right away — if she needs time to think about her response, give her that time (and follow up if appropriate). You can also explain that your instinct is to fix, but that your idea of fixing might not match her idea of fixing, so you’re just trying to get on the same page while things are calm, rather than trying to figure it out when things are actively stressful.

She might have clear, actionable answers ready. Or she might not! Not everyone is great at expressing their needs/preferences. Be patient, listen to what she’s saying, ask for clarifications if necessary, but also be prepared in the event that answers are vague or that answers might be “I don’t know.” You can’t fix everything, but if nothing else, having these types of conversations outside of a crisis can at least show that you’re trying in good faith to help, and that even if you get it wrong, it’s not necessarily that you were being a jerk; you just got it wrong that time, and you can try to do better in the future.

I hope this helps. In general, “talk about things when everyone is calm, not while someone is in the middle of a stressful situation” goes a long way, whether it’s about communication, sex, family, money, whatever. In a crisis, do your best in the moment without adding to the problem. Then, later, find time to improve your technique.

Yeah, that sounds about right. I remember a time when they actually paid staff to write about soccer. Sigh.

RhombusObstacle

They expanded their studio, and mentioned that they can now shoot multiple videos simultaneously with two different teams. A schedule like that requires more on-camera talent to avoid overwork and burnout for the cast. Therefore it’s a planned expansion of the cast, not a replacement, because they need to grow, not just maintain the status quo.

Those comments are from yesterday.

RhombusObstacle

Nah, I just checked your comments, where you refer to yourself as a straight guy. I’m not assuming anything; you’re just being weird.

RhombusObstacle

I’m not hushing a black woman. I’m hushing you. Hush.

RhombusObstacle

Hush.

RhombusObstacle

These are unrealistic hopes. “Knowing better” isn’t something that comes automatically at any age. As others have said, 31-year-old guys that are looking to date 23-year-olds are already displaying a concerning lack of discernment. There’s a reason they’re not dating someone their own age. No need to subject yourself to that.

RhombusObstacle

OOF. Linda Hand would never.

RhombusObstacle

Bingo, thank you for picking up what I was putting down.

RhombusObstacle

Also, my freshman year of college, I drove an hour and a half back to my hometown most weekends, just to hang out with friends and pick up a few shifts at my old job. Two hours is NOTHING in MI. Definitely not a “destination wedding.”

RhombusObstacle

I grew up in Michigan, and folks there just seem to have an entire other level of passive-aggressive, just like your mom.

I’m sorry you’re going through this, and you’re not overreacting. A bunch of my friends got married in Michigan, and there are some lovely venues all over. And also, I don’t like my hometown, and I’m glad I left there. I’ll go back to visit friends, but I’d never get married there. I got married in New York City (where I live now), and my parents drove here. They offered to drive my grandma, but she got fussy about it, and ended up not coming.

And you know what? It was fine. We missed her, of course, but she made the decision not to travel. We still had a lovely wedding.

The point is, your wedding is a big party, at the end of the day. It’s a celebration of you and your partner, and your new stage of life. It’s supposed to be fun! If your mom refuses to be happy for you, then let her stay home. That’s her decision. That’s not your problem to solve. You tried, and she’s playing games.

I hope you have a lovely wedding, wherever you decide to host it. You can’t control other people, especially when they make the choice to be miserable. But you can control yourself, and you can choose to enjoy your wedding and your marriage and your life.

RhombusObstacle

This close to the event? You can get “good” or “cheap,” but definitely not both. Good luck!

RhombusObstacle

I know Eli also has a bunch of improv training/experience, which I think helps a lot in terms of "fitting in quickly and looking comfortable (even while still adjusting)."

RhombusObstacle

Barely! They simplified it a little, took some of the serifs off the letters, made it a little more legible when shrunk down. It's not a huge change, and I'm not actually upset or anything. But it is weird that the official league website wouldn't be using the most up-to-date branding for their teams.

Edit: The wikipedia page (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New\_York\_City\_FC) has a "Colors and Badge" section that shows them both, if you wanted to compare.

RhombusObstacle

We don’t deserve to make the playoffs, so the thing I’m more concerned with is: why is the official MLS site still using the old NYCFC crest?

RhombusObstacle

Interesting. I wonder if it’s checking who built the frost forge? It might be assigning that player’s ID to anything looted from it, when there are multiple players. I’d be curious to see if anything changes if you demolish the frost forge and someone else rebuilds it.

TNTLs are uploads, and it's wacky to insist otherwise.

Video suggestions: "Videos with the new cast in them."

RhombusObstacle

Dang, what'd Trevor do to you to get completely shut out?

RhombusObstacle

Okay, so then the answer to your question is "actually watch the stuff they're in instead of ignoring videos that they're in." The way you warm up to things is by experiencing them with an open mind, instead of pre-judging them.

You're kind of all over the place. You say that you "miss watching every upload," but then you also say that you don't watch TNTL, which are uploads. If you're "ignoring every new upload" because some of the new cast was in a video that you didn't end up liking, that's a you problem, not a cast problem. I've watched most of the stuff the new cast has appeared in and enjoyed everything I saw. Not every single video was an instant classic or anything, but that's true regardless of cast. Which isn't to say "I'm right, you're wrong." It's to say "I actually watched them and formed an opinion, and you're apparently avoiding doing that," which is bonkers.

RhombusObstacle

Sure, that works, but it's also not "an open-air refinery," which is what OP was asking for. That's "a pit," enclosed by earth walls instead of black marble/iron/copper. Certainly it works, but it's not in the spirit of OP's request, either.

RhombusObstacle

Again, he has a lot of material relating to his substance abuse. Nearly an entire special about it, in fact!
