why should i participate in a moneyball tournament if it’s just gonna be full of sandbaggers who are better than me?

RightProperChap

literally just show up. lubber run if you’re 3.5ish, walter reed if you’re 4.0+

there will definitely be people there playing weekends and evenings

if you’re showing up in the morning on a weekday: walter reed

sunday mornings: lubber run

before the bounce = it’s partner communication

after the bounce = it’s a line call, the ball is immediately dead

if the “out” caller or their partner changes their mind and says “hey wait no it was in”, then the rally is already over since the ball is dead, and the opponents win the rally

upvote for adding a small dot with a sharpie - no need to measure every time, just run a string real quick

RightProperChap

the math isn’t there either. the whole thing is rotten top to bottom, and it’s a money-losing proposition

RightProperChap

very few people add weight to the handle

RightProperChap

both Salt Line and Circa have decent outdoor seating. not super cute, but roughly the budget you’re aiming for

RightProperChap

it appears to be hosted at dmvpickle.org instead of dmvpickleball.org

RightProperChap

coaches can’t make line calls either. they can’t take actions that directly affect what’s happening on court.

“She puts in a lot more time than I do”

sounds like she had different goals and priorities than you have, which is fine. she’ll pursue hers to the extent that she wants to, and she’ll surpass you in playing skill. this is just reality and reflects your relative goals and priorities.

good for Mr. Bread and Mr. Butter, but i hope that quality doesn’t suffer

RightProperChap

(1) small swings so that your paddle is in position to hit the next ball, and (2) anticipate where the ball is coming back (watch their paddle and body language, know their likely next action) and position yourself for it

fast hands = i know what’s going to happen and i act before it happens

fast hands is not “my reaction time is amazing”

white house is my fave of the series

please report back on what you ended up choosing and how it went!!

ooh, tell me more!!

didja call them, or find it on a menu somewhere? what’s the cost? will you have to make a special order, or can you just walk up to the register and order 24 of them and they’ll know how to ring you up without blinking?

Taqueria Picoso makes their own corn tortillas, and i think they’re the best in the region

dunno if they sell ‘em

RightProperChap

he’s good at flicking the attackable balls that you present him with? stop giving him attackable balls

he’s doing this to everything, not just attackable balls? you need to re-assess your definition of attackable ball

RightProperChap

to be a professional athlete, you need “years of working, learning, failing”. you also need to be born with natural ability.

it takes both.

same for entrepreneurs.

RightProperChap

lobbing will increase

is arlington close enough to their regional distribution centers?

your plan is exactly what i recommend: have a list of your biggest weaknesses, drill to fix those weaknesses

your next journey is designing good drills (or learning from youtube or from other players or from a coach). it’s not that hard, but there are definitely ways to drill that are better than other ways.

it sounds like you’re interested in becoming a student of the game, which is the road to achieving your goals!

RightProperChap

you need to add “game-like scenarios” to your drilling - especially things that involve decision-making

do things during drilling that put you under pressure - keep score during the drill

once it gets warm in march and april there will basically always be people there
