My first thought would to sew a long piece of fabric shut with HD foam in it, and then wrap it around with a zipper to bring the two ends together, or velcro if a zipper is beyond your skill level.

Anecdotally, It would have to be much longer than that, because a standard game takes me around 6-8 minutes on average CURRENTLY when I queue with my 2 friends. Imagine that wait if it also had to account for rank differences means my friends would never play with me, they already complain how long it takes as is.

I find we have too much work, and I travel a lot to do, at least in commercial upholstery. The other shop I work for is household furniture upholstery and we have a 6 month waitlist at the moment between 3 upholsterers.

I'm going to be real here. I've been doing upholstery in South Carolina for 9 years now. I make 22/hr as a 1099 at one shop that's mostly commercial/restaurant and from calling around at other shops, and also working at a more high end furniture shop 2 days a week (Also 1099). I don't think its paid well unless you are running your own business, but then you have to be good at all parts of the job (sewing, patterning) while also great at selling yourself and your work to clients.
On a side note, if any upholstery companies want to prove me wrong (At least in my area) I'll happily send you my portfolio haha.

You could totally use wood but that’s a lot of extra weight imo. You could hand sew it with rope for a chic look, but honestly even if you haven’t sewn in a long time, you don’t need clean or super straight stitches for something you won’t see much and would still be an improvement over what you have.
Don’t let me discourage your idea, both work, just wanted to give you other ways.
