Ayee i just call it a hernia flare up really 😅 the reflux build up itself is usually gradual unless suddenly triggered by loads of acidic / spicy stuff...

To be honest if you have any kind of normal balanced diet, drink water and dont eat loads of spicy food etc all the time and just watch out for reflux youd never know it was there... i had been getting stomach cramps for a while, almost like hunger pains, just a weird sort of tightness above the stomach, could never tell if i was just still hungry or what was going on...

Ate a moderately spicy chicken curry ready meal one day whilst getting the cramps and i was keeled over in agony within minutes, searing pain, sweating, really having to control breathing etc and figure out what was going on, comes and goes really but i think the main source of pain is stomach acid coming up through the sphincter (heh heh.. sphincter) and irritating the hernia itself, sensitive tissue!

All i can say is, if you have indigestion, and it starts getting worse or not going away, be ready to think you are going to die, but remember, you will live 🤣

Mines only the smallest and least severe.. 2mm (or 2cm?) Sliding hiatus hernia... but my diet sucks, stomach produces a lot of acid (GERD) (i take a PPI once a day or 2)...

Picture...when you have indigestion / heart burn, except there is now searing agony and throbbing pulsating pain direcly below your heart, potentially for days if you cant get your stomach acid in control... just really, really bad pain tbh haha its basically directly adjacent to the bottom of the heart so might almost feel like some kind of heart attack, except you know its not because youre still alive 🤣

If youre not already taking a PPI (omeprazole etc) it may be worth getting some as an emergency stash, if u have a flare up u will know about it, ull wana get that stomach acid under wraps... long term use will sap your body of various minerals / vitamins etc and cause kidney / liver issues very long term...

If you ever do get a flare up, decaf green teas are soothing, eggs, cheese, wholemeal toast, pro biotic yoghurts, stay away from any acidic stuff, citrus, alcohol etc...

I went to work with a hiatus hernia flare up, recovering kidney infection, broken toe and broken scaphoid, sometimes you just have to accept that employers can be really unfair if you havent earned statutory rights
