Do you find that the generator drowns out the sound? I have a long extension cord on mine so I can leave the generator in the garage. Still getting some noise though.

My worry for you is that upgrading the phone would make you feel the need to use it over the DSLR more. If the phone is secondary then Id highly recomend just biting the bullet and breaking out the DSLR more often. The 7+ is a step up from the 6+ but if you're at a restaurant and wanna snap a quick pic of your food without breaking out a big camera the upgrade isnt worth it.
