Yeah, he's some slick shit.

Sandaasu

Yeah, I was rather pleasantly surprised by this. I'm still trying to analyze the guy, and hearing him speak in this particular context is rather helpful. Notable is his attitude that everyone is God's child, which the host doesn't agree with. You're seeing two different sorts of Christians here, and Paul quite clearly places himself as the more agreeable sort. He also avoided calling homosexuality a sin, which is really rather remarkable.

He did have a minor flub in seeming to call it a "problem" but he continued with "the way people are born." Given that this was off the cuff, I think that the second part of that speaks stronger than the first.

He strikes me as someone who was likely severely homophobic in the past, but is recovering from that rather nicely.

Sandaasu

Yes, I believe this is why they specify that. If I remember correctly, it has already been determined that ARV treatment does reduce transmission rates for homosexual encounters as well, but I don't recall there being any specific numbers like this.

Sprint's 3G has been pretty badly bogged down in many places since the iPhone release. From what I understand, they're working on it, but they're probably concerning themselves more with getting their LTE network off the ground.

Sandaasu

Ah, that article says nicely what i was planning to reply with. The effects are much, much different then alcohol, and there's a good reason why there's not a problem with people getting into wrecks after marijuana use. While alcohol makes one reckless and less aware of one's own limitations, marijuana tends to do the opposite. So, how it works out, is that if one is incapacitated enough by weed that they shouldn't be driving, they'll be too afraid to drive in the first place. And, if they do drive, they're bound to, if anything, be more watchful and careful then usual.

Sandaasu

I also tend to go the pee route on it, and all sorts of other strange places the water has probably been at some point or another. Then I get to thinking about the origins of things, what we're made of used to be.

Life is weird.

Sandaasu

A bit. I'd worry more about the information being inaccurate. The goal of the image isn't to attack homosexuals, but instead to attack those who do the sagging pants thing, trying to upset them using their own homophobia. It's a bit of a grey area, but in terms of it being homophobic, I'm not too worried about it.

Sandaasu

I'm mostly-cismale homosexual, and I have a handful of MtF friends. Found them from doing my usual social things. I'm afraid that I can't give much advice on it other than getting out there and trying to find groups. You might just have to try to find more, and see if you can find your niche within the community.

Sandaasu

Transphobia, misogyny, and general bigotry. I keep thinking that people should know better. Then there's the need to walk on eggshells in /r/apple. If you dare say that Apple's done anything at all wrong, or even suggest that they should do something a little differently, it's treated as if you slapped someone's mother.

Sandaasu

That's a bit of a shame. Despite what Jobs said, I have on several occasions run into iPad owners who expressed interest in a 7" version of the device, if just for the increased portability.

Sandaasu

Oh, yes, certainly while one is presenting as a gender, one should respect that. It's just hard to say for certain what pronouns this person prefers in their life as a whole, and thought I'd point that out for the sake of discussion.

And... I can't help but be curious about that side note myself. Things seem to get murkier there, as it seems to be considered more "normal" for a woman to dress in men's clothing or bend lines in other ways. It's an interesting point in the study of such things, and could probably be discussed for quite some time. I suppose one just has to play it by ear and hope that the person they're speaking with is understanding about any resulting confusion.

Sandaasu

Hm, I hate to say it, but without more information it's hard to say if they used the proper gender pronouns or not. For all we know, the person in the picture identifies as male. Just because someone is presenting as a gender doesn't mean that they identify as it.

Sandaasu

This is my personal favorite. Works great, and the packaging is really nice. The small bottle works wonderfully and is so very convenient.

Sandaasu

Yep. China is one instance where views of it have varied. Technically, Taoism frowns upon it, but doesn't call for anyone to do anything about it as far as I know, and people seem to generally ignore that part of it anyway. Overall, homosexuality was well tolerated there, with even some instances of same sex unions and gay men in high places, up until a few centuries ago when the infusion of western culture brought homophobia along with it.

Just because a group doesn't convert to a religion, doesn't mean that they can't be influenced by it. This has been the case in a lot of places, in fact, where European culture that includes these Christian moral concepts manages to inject those beliefs into another culture without bringing the whole religion along.

There are also cases where people had issues with homosexuality before one of the problematic monotheistic faiths came about, but in these cases persecution tended to be very limited compared to what you see after the introduction of those beliefs.

Sandaasu

Oh, there's quite a history to it, and it's really quite fascinating, I think. Much of it goes back so long ago that there's some uncertainty, but there are some ideas as to how it happened. As far as the modern day situation goes, it's come mostly through the spread of Christianity and Islam, and some other cultures picking up on it from these.

Interestingly, despite the apparent common link, Judaism doesn't seem to be involved, despite what scripture says. The current concept of institutionalized homophobia seems to stem from either something home grown in early Christianity, or something lifted from Zoroastrianism.

Anyway, before these big two modern monotheistic faiths came around, most people in the world didn't care about it, didn't like it but didn't make a big deal out of it, or even celebrated it. It's funny that they talk about same sex marriages as if it's something new, when in reality, they were common in many places before Christianity and Islam came charging through. If I remember correctly, it was quite common in Africa before the missionaries showed up.

Sandaasu

Yep. The TV series did hold one nicely to the concept, though, for the most part. I think a lot of the problem is that Trek really isn't a good basis for movies. It would be like trying to make one out of a soap opera. Sure, some of them still turned out alright, but it's relatively hard to keep that ideology going within the expectations of a major film release.

Enterprise, sadly, managed to botch this up anyway, at least much of the time. Every now and then it showed a glimmer of the previous runs, but they kept dragging it away from that and off to some movie-like adventure that misses the point.

VGA does mean lower quality. How much do depends on the quality of the components involved. This actually used to be a big deal too, as one could find noticeable differences between graphics cards when it came to image quality. We're not talking about processing power or anything like that, but instead the digital to analog converter and things surrounding it. Heck, the length and quality of the cable could make quite a difference. For a while, one of the factors in the Nvidia vs ATI debate was the fact that this quality would vary quite a bit on Nvidia boards, but ATI, who was making the whole thing, would always be top notch.

DVI eliminates this worry by sending out a digital signal, so the graphics hardware doesn't make a difference in image quality, as long as you're using DVI. If you use VGA, as the mentioned integrated solutions do (some integrated graphics sets do have DVI, but the ones we're discussing do not), then there will often be a noticeable difference. And yes, this is on LCD screens. In fact, that's all we're talking about, as CRTs were analog screens anyway, thus the adoption of VGA, which works well enough for them but is certainly not ideal for LCD screens as the process involved of going digital -> analog -> digital causes degradation in the signal.

So, if we were discussing integrated graphics with DVI output, then no, there's no difference. Now, one of the integrated options they have listed there does have HDMI, is for the sake of this argument is mostly the same as DVI, but the end user is less likely to use that to connect their PC to a dedicated computer monitor, so they're probably going to run into the VGA issue anyway.

Sandaasu

Hm, they are exaggerating the difference quite a bit, but there is reason to believe that there would be a difference in visual quality between the integrated graphics and the cards.

As the link in the article demonstrates, when one looks at the options, all of the integrated options use VGA, while the cards use DVI. This can make a noticeable difference. Usually not as extreme as the comparison they're making, but it is there.

Sandaasu

I'm with you on this. I actually didn't get in trouble myself, because the administration knew what was up. I was lucky in a way, I only had to strike once, and that was it. They left me alone after that.

Sandaasu

Huh? From the article:

"The National Parks Service outed the mistakes in a recent review before banning it from the Ford's Theatre bookstore."

Sandaasu

Gay man, switch. I've used a bunch of things and so far, my favorite standard ones are the silicone based formulas. They can be a bit harder to clean up, but the lack of tackyness is very nice. Been using the Swiss Navy brand of this lately, and have been quite happy with it.

I have used olive oil (within a monogamous relationship) and found that to be rather nice as well.

Sandaasu

11, and it was nothing bad, actually. It was with one of my peers, and I'm the one who got the ball rolling.

Sandaasu

It's not too bad here, overall. I'm in the KC area and since leaving High School, haven't had any real trouble over it. Still, I'm wanting those rights!

Sandaasu

It's the media. What did you expect?
