I mean, they do threaten the hierarchy of power because fascist shit is based on an insane world view that never works out. But the elites are as dumb as the general public, and go for the "trust me, bro" promises of the fascists instead of engaging with the hard work necessary to actually fix problems.

Aside from the technical problems, dealing with licensing takes up a lot of time. Maybe 30-40% for some of my coworkers. There are so many things in the Microsoft ecosystem that would be just fine but instead you end up having to come up with elaborate workarounds for licensing reasons.

It's sort of the guns. But mostly what you're allowed to do with the guns. Canada, Czechia and Switzerland also have lots of guns, but a fraction of the shootings. None of those countries allow carrying guns for self defence, or even owning guns for that purpose.

The US explicitly allows the owning and carrying of guns (and knives) for the purpose of killing people.

So you're right, but only when comparing countries that don't encourage citizens to kill each other.

Yeah, Kentucky voted 64.47% for trump, Tennessee only 64.19%. Such difference.

Are Scots Guards known for turning down drinks? TIL that UK and Canadian military culture have diverged a lot more than I would have thought.

1000km isn't a shorter distance when you live in a small country, lol.

Ultra high voltage DC lines can be up to 2,500 km these days. Theoretically they can build them up to 10,000 km, though you'd lose about a third of your power due to line losses over that length.

It's a 8+ month waiting list to get into voluntary rehab. Maybe try fixing that first?

Our current government is phasing out almost all of Canada's renewable resources like fisheries, forestry, even hydro sourced projects

To be honest, this statement makes no sense. Forestry is solely provincial, hydro is mostly provincial, and fisheries are mostly federal. Which government are you complaining about here?

As a past local president who didn't follow a bunch of national initiative, you know what happened? Nothing. Absolutely nothing. The local has to follow the national union's constitution, but that's it.

Nobody cares if you go to the national convention. Nobody cares if you wear the right colour shirt on a given day (other than the National Post, apparently).

Well - its none other than....George Soros.

Well, there it is. A single CUPE member supporting Palestine is evidence of a conspiracy by the Jews. Of course.

By the wording of the story, they only need to use the VPN once: to sign up. It doesn't appear that existing users need to prove their age.

Also, why dig a fort in machine-piled snow, when you can make a quinzhee? They're like an igloo, but can be made out of powder snow.

We welcome the province of New New Brunswick.

SapientLasagna

Well yeah. Horsefly Creek is only a few kilometers away.

We? Who's we? Lord Durham? Is that you?

The other option, of course, is that the insurance companies push for tort reform to limit payouts.

Maybe also really remote northern communities where the alternate energy is trucking in diesel. Could even provide district heating.

Still, the price would have be close to what proponents are promising, and that doesn't seem too likely.
