The next part is fascinating but also sounds like a Junji Ito story, giving existential horror: The males degenerate over time as sexual parasites. They lose their eyes, digestive organs, etc. By being fused to the female‘s bloodstream they don‘t need any of it. Eventually they‘re basically reduced to releasing sperm on cue via the female‘s hormones.

This is so exactly it. Once sat around a table with a group of people, friends of my then-boyfriend. One of the dudes starts joking about raping a woman who‘d just walked by. Reactions ranged from uncomfortable quiet to seemingly genuine laughter. Except one. One of his friends look at him with a serious face and said That‘s fucked up man, why would you say that?

It‘s been 10+ years and I still respect him for it til this day. I have gotten better at speaking up but a guy saying it unfortunately just has more weight than someone‘s girlfriend.

With how hard I‘ve struggled with disordered eating, one thing that‘s helped me is the following realisation: a starving, frail me who spends 24/7 thinking about food is a lot less supportive of my community and has no capacity to do anything about the fascists.

My great grandma was a big woman and the way she and the women around her smuggled goods to their partisan men in the forest to stop them from freezing and starving will always inspire me.

Spite makes me eat and train.
