You say "Conky-like widget", I say "Why not directly in Conky?" ^^
It is a (moderately) involved process though:
- a systemd timer periodically starts
- a systemd service launching
- a script running a new emacs instance using a minimally sufficient config to run (org-batch-agenda "x") in -batch mode, "x" being the name of an org-agenda-custom-command defined in that config, which includes special formatting (terminal color escape codes) for the various possible items in an agenda view
- which gets exported to /tmp/agenda_export.txt
- which gets parsed back in my custom conky lua config to set the color and use another custom function to draw text as if it was embossed in the wallpaper
The custom script also runs cal --color=always -n 2 -m > /tmp/cal.txt which is also parsed by conky to the same effect and display the calendar above.
Same thing with the weather from wttr.in
But you can skip a lot of this and use something like ${catp file} in conky to directly display the content of the exported file, using easier color markup and not needing to go into lua and parsing the file yourself.
Granted you are running emacs in server mode, you can skip the systemd timer/service with something like (run-with-timer timeInSeconds 't 'org-batch-agenda "x") (actually, I should do that ^^)

Be mindful that you wouldn't be able to release on Catalog with genAI assets anyway

It's exactly what I had in mind: the crank should control tension (or be used for other techniques such as raking or turning the wheels on a coded padlock. Same thing about showing the pins: this should only be in the tutorial, then the game should use sounds to convey pins being set/dropped. Still I'm not sure how it'd feel without force feedback on the crank or even some vibration, but maybe loud enough sounds can simulate some haptic feedback

Aw damn! I had a lockpicking game in my bag of ideas for my next game (when I find time to start a new game ') Guess you beat me to the punch :-D I'll give it a try and tell you what I think!

I'm using evil… with a non-qwerty layout.
It means I have (and had with vim alone before that) to remap everything, for every package.
You might think it's madness, and I won't fight you on this ^^
But this has several advantages:
- instead of the linear HJKL I chose keys that form an actual directional cross like the arrow keys do
- although I *have to* declare my own bindings every time I install a new package, it's now an integral part of how I learn using a newly installed package, and `use-package` with `general` makes this very easy
- by having to, I *get to* chose my own bindings, guaranteeing a single unified set of usage patterns. For example, directional keys for me are DTSR and I've had to set them only once for evil normal mode and always simply move the cursor. But pressing the right Alt key with those make these glyphs: ðþß® (and ÐÞẞ™ with Shift), which I'm binding in each mode map to "semantic" movement (navigating/folding/moving header to header in org/outline, section to section in magit, etc.)
And it's not like n/p for navigation is convenient anyway 😉

Reminds me of something I did some 15 years ago with Compiz 😄 https://youtu.be/Vk6xk5_XNAs?si=YvnoK8ivs81s59nL Sun position was realtime, with multitexturing from nasa day/night earth pictures and specular reflection using an ocean texture mask. Cosmic background skydome used nasa giga skymap. I even found someone serving somewhat realtime cloud coverage by automatically stitching sat images but it didn't work all the time.
System monitor is conky + lua and vector Cairo graphics. It ran pretty smoothly on mid-low tier hardware at the time!

Thank you for putting this up! I'm a bit late to the party but I finally got to post about RollerBlade here!

Anyone can submit their game for inclusion in Catalog. Then it gets reviewed by Panic and if they think it's a good fit for catalog it gets approved and scheduled for release!

Thanks!

Absolutely beautiful!
Can you tell us more about the system you developed to generate this image?
SataMaxx
I've peeked around a bit on the system and i see multiple potential avenues to achieve the desired effect, from blacklisting kernel modules in /etc/modprobe.d (I think disabling cfg80211 would work), or inactivating the wifi chip in some way using a udev rule, or disabling systemd services such as dhcpcd, or wpa_supplicant (which might still let the user connect to unsecured connections with a manual configuration. As for disabling the network entirely with systemd-networkd I don't know how that would affect the usb connection and I think it's a bad idea. Maybe try stopping it first before disabling it to see what it does and so you can always reboot the tablet to restart it) You might also be able to only whitelist a particular SSID in some wireless config file, or cripple any potential connection by force setting bad parameters in /etc/resolv.conf, disabling dhcpcd, or redirecting a bunch of traffic to nowhere in /etc/hosts.
As I'm not really willing to experiment much with those, I prefer pointing you to two pages of the old community wiki :
- secure the ssh connection with keys : https://web.archive.org/web/20230606163556/https://remarkablewiki.com/tech/ssh
- block wifi with rfkill : https://web.archive.org/web/20230608205211/https://remarkablewiki.com/tips/blockwifi
This solution uses a control file to re-enable wifi, but you could simply have the rfkill block 0 line executed unconditionaly on startup, or use a similar "obscure" mechanism to allow re-enabling the wifi if needed without having to access the tablet through ssh.
This solution appears less "elegant" to me (but so do kneecapping the connection by breaking dhcpcd), and cleanly disabling the wlan0 interface would be the best, but in the end I guess you only need it to not work!
I hope you won't have to use it, but do know there's a method to recover the RM in case you lose all access: https://remarkable.guide/tech/recovery.html (though you will need to really get your hands dirty and build a custom connector to do so!)

EXACTLY

I don't have my RM2 with me right now to confirm, but it should be possible to go blacklist the wifi kernel module through SSH.
And if you want to be sure a savvy user might for some reason want to try to re-enable it you can also secure the SSH connection to answer only to a private SSH key, as the password is always accessible through the general informations.
Be sure if you try this to absolutely know what you are doing, as you can easily lock yourself out of accessing the tablet system.

Thanks! I'm having fun with those! It almost feels like certain sequences of prompts were done on purpose ^
