I disagree. There are two types of empathy: cognitive / emotional. If somebody does not experience emotions in a normal way they aren't going to be able to learn emotional empathy as they don't experience emotions in the same way as normal people.

Read Paul Bloom's book "On Empathy" - it's great.

This is what is counter-intuitive about the idea of "lack of empathy" for most people. Somebody with severe, pathological narcissism does not experience emotions in the same way as other people. That is why it is almost impossible for them to have emotional empathy. I have met somebody who was diagnosed with pathological narcissism and it was mind-blowing listening to them speak about how they did not experience emotions in any way the same way that I did.

To add to this: I don't believe people actually have free will, so probably look at this in a radically different way than you do.

There's certain cases where you'd need to cast or check if a variable is a string

e.g.

rather than

process.env.DISCORD_TOKEN

it would be

process.env.DISCORD_TOKEN as string

as the variable might not exist. Iff you want to use this to get a job, add Unit Tests. Its so rare that you see portfolio code that has unit tests. You'd stand out.
