Meanwhile in Germany I had a car that had 6 month expired inspection. I had an appointment to get it inspected on Monday. On Sunday I drove it to the town where I'd get it inspected, parked it on a parking spot that would require payment mon-sat but not sun.
Fucking got a ticket for being six months past inspection.
Someone actually walked around a parking lot on a day where you didn't need to pay for parking and looked at the stickers. And ticketed me.
I appreciate that we care about that sort of thing because we are allowed to genuinely go unlimited speed on large parts of the Autobahn and that requires safe vehicles, but come on. XD
I ended up junking that car because inspection found it was rusted through harder than was economical to fix. It was a piece of shit anyway, fixing that would not have resulted in a pleasant car.

I switched to Chrome for a couple years when Firefox was trying too hard to be Chrome, so I figured I might as well just use Chrome.
Ended up not liking it and switched back. Very happy with Firefox.

I paid 60€ for their Pro Tech Toolkit. As a private person.
...ten years ago. It came in handy dozens of times.
One time my dad took all the removable shelves out of a piece of furniture and stacked them neatly at the bottom. They are the exact dimensions of the inside, so there was no way you could get any kind of tool under there to get them back out of the hole. I took my iFixit kit and used the suction cup with a handle you use for removing phone screens and just lifted them out one by one. It wasn't a perfect seal because wood grain, but more than good enough to lift it and get a finger underneath. I used their bendy bit extension to get screws out of the corner of furniture where I genuinely couldn't get a regular screwdriver and don't know how they ever assembled it to begin with. I've repaired phones, built and upgraded and repaired computers, replaced the battery on a wireless headset, replaced the SSD on my dad's laptop, heck I even fixed a Lighthouse VR station when a lens came off the drum, replaced the battery on my trusty old Kindle 4.
If you're at all likely to repair techy things, just get one. It's just such a convenient and complete set of tools for any tech job, it'll come in handy for years and years.
I only added one tool to it myself: a pencil with a nice rubber eraser. This is for pressing hard to reach PCIe locks without slipping off and potentially damaging components on the motherboard.
It pairs nicely with an LTT screwdriver if you want something more substantial with a nice ratchet and twelve bits in the handle, there have definitely been times where I needed the extra torque to get a screw unstuck, but that's mostly a comfort feature and not an actual necessity. The kit is definitely a necessity. Especially the guitar picks and pry tools come in handy constantly for more portable devices, or the aforementioned Lighthouse VR station. Anything that's clipped or glued together.

Here in Germany, we don't have ranked choice voting, but we do have two votes. One for chancellor (our "president") and one for a party. These can align but don't have to. Any party with at least 5% of votes gets a seat. This typically leads to about 5-6 parties having power and voting on stuff.
It worked pretty well for a bunch of decades, but currently a lot of people seem to think it's a good idea to vote for nazis... so it's not perfect. But it's a hell of a lot better than what the USA has.
Note: the first vote is not specifically for our chancellor. It is for a party to provide a chancellor. This distinction was introduced after there was some guy with a funny mustache in the 30s and 40s who let it get to his head that he was personally voted to be in power, so now we don't vote for people, but for parties to provide people. Different mindset when you represent your party who was voted into power versus the people who voted you personally into power.

My first ever car had this issue. Bought it used and the previous owner had aftermarket floor mats. My dad was driving to my school and I was following him so I'd learn the route. We had to slow down in a tunnel and speed up after, his car had much more engine than mine, so I had to floor it to keep up with him.
And then I tried to unfloor it and there was no pedal on my foot.
And I'd gotten my driver's license three days ago.
These days I'd just shift into neutral, but back then I just did my best to brake with the left foot to not hit my dad's car (explain THAT to insurance lmao) and kept kicking the gas as hard as I could to get it unstuck, not knowing why it was even stuck.
After nearly hitting my dad and no doubt getting my brake discs red hot, I finally got it to dislodge the gas pedal. I made sure not to go full throttle after that, and as soon as there was somewhere safe to pull over, I flashed my lights at my dad five times and blinked right. He understood and we both pulled over.
I shut off the car and pulled the handbrake and crawled under my steering wheel to figure out what the fuck had happened. I pushed my gas pedal down all the way and it immediately got caught under the floor mat. I tried to adjust the floor mat and get the hook through the hole again, but it instantly fell out.
At that point I just ripped the floor mat out of the car and angrily threw it on the ground in front of my car while my dad got out to see what was up. I explained the issue and he was like oh shit nice job handling that so well.
The following week, my parents had ordered me a set of genuine OEM floor mats for my car, and they actually fit perfectly and didn't endanger me any further. I don't fuck around with floor mats anymore. Not for the driver's seat, anyway.

I will hear no slander for my beloved Constitution! It is a beautiful and perfect weapon.
It has a bayonet. And it deals double the damage and has more pen than the LibLeg. :3

Could ask a trusted friend to log in for you?
Or if you got like, any computer available, you could install it and run it, even if it doesn't run at all.
Back in the day TF2 released a penguin cosmetic if you launched the game on Linux. That was right when I was in hospital and all I had was a really awful netbook (remember netbooks?) that I'd put a lightweight Linux distro on because it just wasn't strong enough for real Windows. I wanted the cosmetic and just installed TF2. It took like 20 minutes and then crashed in the main menu before I ever saw it, but it counted, and I got my Tux!

I got it without doing a mission, I think it's just a slow rollout and the mission took long enough for it to arrive.
SavvySillybug
I cannot recommend doing that.

I never considered a pizza box laptop, but now I want one. That's amazing.

I respect everything but the hot glue.
I love hot glue, but not on components that are going to get hot. No wonder it detached. Zip ties would be a much better idea, you can even slip the zip tie through the motherboard hole and use a second zip tie to secure it, kinda like a nut and bolt situation. Just gotta get one with a big enough head that it gets stuck in the screw hole.

I had my monitor on a cardboard box as a temporary solution and then kept it like that for 11 months. Why 11 months? Because after 11 months the weight of the monitor had bent the cardboard enough to make it sag and it introduced a noticeable tilt to the screen.
I now have three cans of expired food under my monitor, those won't bend for another few decades.

My parents still have a daily newspaper subscription.
The crazy part is that they own a business where they need to package and ship stuff, and they bought recycled paper to use for that. They do not see how newspaper could be involved in this and continue to just recycle the newspaper. They got a genuine box of newspapers just sitting in the storage room that they take out every couple months instead of taking it to work.

Used market will always exist. Developers won't make games for hardware that doesn't exist. And unless they invent quantum entangled gaming, cloud streaming will always suck.
If they stop making hardware, I'll just buy the hardware that already exists, and even today, only three out of the twelve games I currently play even need or want the 9070 XT in my rig.
If AAA devs start releasing cloud only games I can't own or play on my own hardware, then they are releasing games I can't and won't play. Meanwhile indie games and small to medium teams continue to exist because those will always exist, and I will happily play those games on my aging hardware that fails to become obsolete for lack of newer consumer releases.

statute of limitations for bunny related crimes is 30 years, now that I'm 34 I can finally talk about it
Edit: to the guy who seemed to think I was serious and blocked me for animal abuse? I was less than three years old?? You cannot commit a crime that young, my comment is literally about my brain not being developed enough to comprehend what I had done and realizing how awful it was once it developed further. Ah who cares they're not gonna read this anyway
SavvySillybug
I can confirm that you haven't edited anything. The heck are they on about?
SavvySillybug
Yeah I mean, this guy fired thousands of people just months before announcing a hard pivot to AI where "no jobs will be lost".
That's hilarious. We fired everyone, and NOW no jobs will be lost!!

Ovipositor! Ovi, like egg. The thing that puts the egg.
Source: don't ask why I know this
SavvySillybug
Yeah, they currently have a bit of a slop problem. Which is weird because it costs money to put your game on Steam so surely it can't be profitable to have 1000 games that nobody buys but Gabe gets 10k for free?
SavvySillybug
Only reason I even have an Epic account is that I wanted to play Rocket League on my Switch and that was the only way to have my progress carry over.
I used to like the word epic and use it unironically.
SavvySillybug
So what did you mean to imply with "what happens in those suits after game?"
SavvySillybug
When I was 2-3 years old I threw our bunny down the stairs to see what would happen. Turns out what happens is that it goes blind in one eye and doesn't want to snuggle you anymore. It would take another year for my brain to develop far enough to really realize how awful that had been and I felt really, really bad when that clicked. I would definitely not want to be thrown down the stairs, why the fuck did I do that?
Crazy that this step is somehow optional for some people.
SavvySillybug
Hmm, no, that would mean it's not your keyboard. That's really weird, to be honest.
I don't have much experience with the new Windows 11 sound menu, try looking into the old one. They don't really let you access it natively, but it's still in the Windows folder and fully functional.
Press Windows+R to open the Run dialog and type sndvol.exe, that'll launch C:\Windows\System32\sndvol.exe.
Normally all the bars should move when you do the keyboard thing, and vice versa for the leftmost slider, and you get a little arrow to switch sound devices.
It should show convenient green bars for the whole device and the program that's making the noise, that's why I like that program so much, it's way easier for troubleshooting XD
If that menu can't control your sound, then I think your device is haunted.
Wait, Americans got signs for that? That's just default behavior in Germany...
