Probably not a classy move to call them anything other than alcoholic or whatever else is clinically accurate. More and more, alcoholism is being recognized as a clinical medical diagnosis or mental health issue. Using slang like Drunkard or Drunk isn't really considered okay anymore. I know the characters are meant to be friendly or joking around, but it has about the same cringe factor as calling your friend "gay" or "retard"

I know it sounds a bit clinical, but saying something like, "Good night, my alcoholic friend." Is still casual while still being not harsh.
