BITD we had a lot of options.

There used to be a place with a big boy.

SecretsofBlackmoor

Message me. I may have time for a session or two.

SecretsofBlackmoor

I prefer the player who looks at me blankly because they'd been spacing out, and are also possibly really high.

Me: ok, what do you do?

Player: *fiddles with pencil and looks at character sheet*

Me: you just got attacked by giants...

Player: Right, I need to see what spells I still have. *looking at spell list*

Me: It's a pitched battle, what are you doing. You have no time to think.

Player: *looks confused - blinks a lot*

SecretsofBlackmoor

Just use the chart they provide in the DMs guide.

There are so many times when I am on a real sub thinking I am in D&D Circle Jerk.

I'm sitting there thinking the OP is a genius. The abusrdity of it all. The slow build that isn't too long so I keep reading.

I feel I am in the presence of an Artiste as I clutch my belly in jocular agony.

Then I realize it's a real post.

SecretsofBlackmoor

But is he even a real dego?

SecretsofBlackmoor

I swear the people here have better takes than the ones in any other sub here.

Good comment.

My inner child shattered when I tried playing in a Pathfinder campaign years ago. I wrote my own rules and started a weird fantasy and sci fi mash up game as a response to how tedious PF was. Then I just reverted back to OD&D with Holmes.

That roll some dice and get playing, then let's see how long you last, energy is still the best.

I'd gladly play BX if I could find a DM for it.

Let's talk more about railing in a campaign - this is modern D&D after all.

SecretsofBlackmoor

Best place to discuss real D&D on reddit.

SecretsofBlackmoor

Been playing bad and wrong for 50 years now.

SecretsofBlackmoor

Actually, it is interesting how bright and crisp new synths sound. Was at a local synth fest and tried some new synths. They had this extra crunch on them. Everything was very defined. It all sounds kind of like it is coming out of a laptop these days.

SecretsofBlackmoor

It explicitly says you have to light candles.

SecretsofBlackmoor

Voices are much easier to write.

SecretsofBlackmoor

Got rid of mine, but the hippy chick is still here.

How do I get her to leave?

SecretsofBlackmoor

Fair enough.

There is a lot of synth to be had out there. Often second hand at decent prices.

The OP mentioned a certain sound which is an old sound, thus I suggested something of the era.

SecretsofBlackmoor

I always tell people to get something cheap to start with. No reason to spend a fortune when you may not even use the thing more than a month. Sure, if you've learned more and decide it is worth getting something really high grade - go for it.

It takes a while to develop your ear for playing and creating sounds.

I love the old crap. I am having a blast with mine. It makes surprisingly good low frequency throbbing sounds.

Been tinkering with crap synths for over 40 years. I own about a dozen of varying value and find each quite enjoyable. I have zero plans to try to be a paid musician. My ROI playing a cheap synth is very good.

SecretsofBlackmoor

Must have material for a serious DM - IMHO.

SecretsofBlackmoor

Build your own case and use a cheap power supply.

I have a case I built into a cigar box. I power it with a Behringer CP1A. You could take a shoe box and cut a hole in the top, then tape the modules in the place.

The kind of sound you want can be done with basic modules. Most can be found second hand.

The proper troll response is:

He meant everything he said, and you are a cuck.

SecretsofBlackmoor

First thing to pop in my head when I saw that book by a guy named, Italo - Fuckin' DEGO!

Bake me a pizza, Bitch!

SecretsofBlackmoor

Kevin Parker - looked him up and he used a Juno 106.

Kind of pricey and sought after they are everywhere though.

A good substitute that was made in the same era is the Korg Poly 800. It is often called the poor man's Juno.

No longer manufactured, they made about a hundred thousand of them.

I would never pay more than 200 bucks for one. I own two that I bought used. One was 150 + 50 S&H. The other just 138 as a local pick up and it came with a touring case.

You would want a fun effect pedal to go with it. I've been running mine through an Earthquaker Afterneath pedal. If you want big space sounds, the Walrus Sloer pedal might be what you want.

It's a good starter rig for less money than your entire budget. It would leave you some cash to look at getting a second synth. Sonicware makes some low cost synths that also allow you to use them as a mixer for another synth plugged into them. I often plug my poly800 with an effect pedal through my Sonicware as a quick jam setup with head phones.

SecretsofBlackmoor

No single synth is ever going to be the ideal synth.

Ideally, I need three sound sources to play.

Lately it's a cheap used keyboard with a reverb. A small eurorack, about 6 - 8 modules, for feedback patching. Some tape loops as accompaniment. Hours of fun.

SecretsofBlackmoor

Fatal fixes that.

Alternatively, so does prostate massage.

Sadly, I did not get through this entire post before things got really frisky. Though I did not want to have sex with you, the imaginary orc in my head did.

I watched with feigned interest as the BDSM orc treated you to total sexual enslavement. I must say, the Gor style branding was a nice touch.

That was a really serious pounding too.

I would go see a doctor now.
