Apply to the job, not the framework. I kept falling into Rails by accident. I don't mind doing a lot of other things. Good framework + bad boss + toxic culture = bad job. Bad framework + good team + good work culture = good job.

Yeah. Reading Reddit fills me with existential dread, but using Claude Code at work just makes me happy. I finally have time for all this shit I never had time for. If I make a huge mess it's much easier to clean up. If I need to refactor 10 files to create a sane organization scheme it's actually possible. If I need a simple best practice for a situation, I can just get that instead of doing something terrible and regretting it. (Some of that experiential learning is important, but book learning is fine too.) Lastly, I can run anything through 8 quality checks before it goes to QA that nobody could have dreamed of three years ago.

Even bad models can analyze all the paths through a function and write a test to cover each of them. This was an insane amount of work not too long ago. People had religious arguments about it.

I'm really interested in this, but a lot of stuff is a real PITA. I really tried with syncthing for example, but it's just ridiculous cognitive overhead compared to Google Drive or DropBox.

I now have to ask myself what would be best for my family if I got hit by a bus, or what if I lost my phone. Sadly, the answer is often Google.

Serializedrequests

That makes sense. For a game that's fine, who cares. For mission critical software, yes Claude can handle almost anything, but that's 8 things that have drifted away from a proven correct implementation while nobody noticed.

Serializedrequests

As much as it pains me, that's not coming back. This may help though: a digital reality isn't good for humans. This is really the lesson. At one time human creativity poured into creating one, and that was wonderful. Now our creativity is pointed elsewhere. Just find that thing that is exciting to you.

Yeah, centralization has been going on for decades now. The Internet has flat geography, so there is nothing to prevent nearly global monopolies other than language and culture. Anything anyone does on it is competing directly with Amazon.

Serializedrequests

Dude, if I closed 50 items in my backlog in two days Claude would have broken 8 things, made 15 bad assumptions exploding project entropy, and none of it would be testable or verifiable in the slightest.

Serializedrequests

None of these "high velocity" things are making anyone any money.

Maybe it's aging, but I see the themes of One Piece as ever green and it is a beloved series for me even though I can't be bothered to read it past a certain point.

  • Emphasis on freedom. People interpret this as "oppressive government blah blah cliche". But it's not. Luffy gives absolute freedom to everyone he meets, and takes it for himself. This has nothing to do with the government at first. To me it's spiritual.
  • Just pure fun. Why do kids love playing pirates? One Piece made that question its core. If you never liked pirates as a kid (I didn't), One Piece takes you by the hand and shows you what you were missing.

People have made so much of the drama and tearful moments over the years and of course I love those too, and I think they happen because the story is overall more spiritually awake than its contemporaries. The love between the characters is not watered down, and always includes freedom at its core.

Btw I base this entirely on the manga. I couldn't get through more than 20 episodes of the anime.

He could have just said "it bundles 55 mb of third party libraries". That's enough for me. When I have tried gin, it was not for anything that needed all that, just a better router and easier param parsing.

The other stuff, crapping on the interface and so forth, I just don't agree with. That interface has nothing to do with obfuscating HTTP and everything to do with making it easier to build a CRUD app. Every time I tried to do something serious in Go, I ended up with something like that every time and just got fed up with reinventing the wheel.

As a very basic example, almost any endpoint needs a way to build up a response before actually writing it out to the client. This is because anything during the building process could error, and require the whole response to be thrown away. "Standard library only" just ignores this reality, and has you piping JSON straight to the response writer.

That's what I do. Any more use of AI feels awful to me. I trust my feelings.

Serializedrequests

Absolutely. Why are people getting saddled with AI code reviews that the original author could have done? Pure silliness.

Serializedrequests

I understand all those. In some ways Windows is more intuitive, but Mac OS is more logical and consistent. Windows has plenty of nonsense you've gotten used to, like Alt-F4. A lot of common keyboard actions have no rhyme or reason.

Down arrow to open a file means "down the file tree", up arrow means "up the file tree". Every keyboard action is prefixed with Cmd, which is comfortably under your thumb.

Elite Dangerous is good. Most people complaining about it have played for hundreds of hours lol.

I thought homewold was more of an RTS though.

Serializedrequests

I enjoy it a lot. 🤷 YMMV.

Serializedrequests

That's an accurate list of technical shortcomings that don't matter half as much as a good form library. Even with all those issues you can happily serve thousands of users on a useful CRUD app on a single server.

I don't even like PHP.

Serializedrequests

I agree. Everyone here just giving anecdotal evidence. If piracy were impossible, a lot of people on the fence would buy the game.

I'm not saying Gabe N is totally wrong either. It's both. As a seller of games, service is what is under your control since all digital goods can be pirated, and also improves sales and creates loyalty.

Serializedrequests

🤦you are a bot.

Serializedrequests

I mean there's a lot to love there, but I first watched it as an adult and it just has some pacing issues that take me right out of it. There are super high budget sequences that feel like they're on a stage. I wouldn't shit on it though. All the memorable stuff is there too.

Serializedrequests

That's confusing the issue, which is self empowerment.

Yes there is a wider reality system with a lot of complexity. It's also not "real" in any sense - only the experience is, and operates as a mirror of your frequency.

Serializedrequests

😂 It is very simple, why are we making this complex? There is only consciousness, and consciousness is all one thing. Your mind creates your experience. If you believe you are being gatekept, you will experience being gatekept. It's that simple.

The "gatekeeping" is just smoke and mirrors meant to place your attention on the idea of being "gatekept" so that you create that experience for yourself. There are many bots all over Reddit working hard on this. It's quite obvious.

Serializedrequests

The Nova community edition has some slightly buggy UI scaling that fixes that enough to get by.

Serializedrequests

There just aren't that many story missions. Nostalgic atmosphere, but not all that much to do by modern standards.

Serializedrequests

Yes exactly 😅 I feel like it's kind of settled into beta at this point. The community seems to engage with it "as is" and isn't aware of the new player experience.

I would kill for just some emphasis on important numbers in the outfitting and shipyard.

Exposed contains judgment. AI simply exposes the intention of people who use it because it lets them amplify what they were already doing.
