Good answer! OP, I'll add that there's a logic flaw in the premise of your question: first, you did identify why rents increase in your step 1, but in step 6 you treat rents rising as something that happens in a vacuum as if it was a pure external shock, and you make deductions about what happens to the rest of the economy when these rents go up. This is a classic mistake that economists call reasoning from a price change.

In a general equilibrium model, all prices, wages and rents are determined simultaneously, and it makes no sense to ask "what happens when rents go up?" without wondering why the rents went up in the first place. In your example, rents rose because a positive productivity shock made workers more productive and very well paid. Even if you have a very inelastic housing supply, rents can never rise more than the underlying productivity gain, because nobody would want to move in the region, so the rents would stop rising. In other words, in a general equilibrium model a region cannot price itself out of competitiveness because of its own success.

There are interesting things to discuss about how much of the productivity gain is captured by landlords, but that's another question.

Rule II

All claims (and especially claims in top-level comments) should be rooted in economic theory and empirical research - not opinions, anecdotes, lay speculation, or personal politics. It is strongly recommended that claims be sourced by citations to applicable research. If your comment begins with "This is just my opinion, but..." or any variation, it will nearly always be removed.

In accordance with Rule II: Top-level comments by non-approved users must be manually approved by a mod before they appear

Oui c'est juste dommage que la logique et la stratégie soient débiles mais c'est vrai que les dégâts institutionnels seront tels que ça va s'inscrire dans la durée !

Serialk

They are closed because not enough people go early. If we moved the time people would probably wake up later and they would all change their opening times. Don't you see that opening hours and working hours are causally after the time standard, not before?

Serialk

You can do that right now by waking up earlier!!!

Serialk

If you work with people in the US and Switzerland/Europe switches to permanent DST you will have to work until 7pm??? 😂

Serialk

Then tend to work until 5pm? Adjust your schedule to the time instead of expecting the time to adjust to youe schedule.

Serialk

Serialk

You are thinking about this in a very short sighted way. Working hours are not an immutable fact of life. If a company wants you to be there in the evening they will change your working hours to end at 19h instead. Working hours should adapt to the time standard instead of the time standard adapting to working hours...

Serialk

Get off of work at 5, do you think the entire European time standard should accommodate your particular working hours or do you think your working hours should adapt to the time?

Serialk

Why? That's just making the clock wrong for no reason. It should be permanent winter time. Just wake up earlier if you want to have more sun in your day.

Serialk

This is window smashing. Will it increase employment? By their logic but not yours.

What's your model?

Serialk

Do you understand the concept of central bank independence and ECB rules?

Serialk

the debt owned by France (where it is the loaner and the loanee)

Lol? Who do you think "France" is in both these cases? Do you mean the BCE?

Serialk

Then demonstrate and prove it instead of just saying that when confronted with actual empirical data?

Serialk

escalade de conflit

looooooooool, et des gens prennent ça au sérieux ?

Serialk

This was not a convention. It's totally stupid to have the plurality winner lead the government. It incentivizes a two party system.

Serialk

That's not how it works, plurality is not winning.

Serialk

What did he do that was heinous?
