First I had the iodine izotope to calm the thyroid a little, and some mercazole to treat the symptoms. That made me slightly hypo, so we used thyrazine to even things out. Over a couple years we lowered the dose to nothing and now I'm fine. Typically recurrence doesn't happen until old age.

Sadly I also had the Graves' opthalmopathy that accompanies 30% of cases and now my eye muscles are scarred, which makes my vision double when drunk or tired... worse fates out there!

Not migraines, but my body temperature went up and I kept losing weight. My heart beat about twice as fast and I could barely sleep at night. Went to the doc, also got the "it's maybe stress" spiel, went on a quick vacation and nothing improved. I went back to the doctor and explained my symptoms in more detail, he ordered blood work, and the next week it turned out I had hyperthyroidism! It took months to stabilize it and two years later I'm fine and off the meds.

So I guess my advice is to keep going to the doctor and explain that the current treatment is not working.

Ale co, całkowicie banować wszystko, z którym jakaś mniejszość społeczeństwa sobie nie radzi? Tu chodzi o to, żeby pomóc alkusom. Zostawcie ludzi, którzy po prostu chcą się zrelaksować albo pobawić. Wolność też ma swoje zalety.

Niepojęte, ale orzeźwiające.

That was 99.9% certainly a sarcrastic comment about how the term "expat" itself has racial undertones in its actual usage.

It's a social lubricant, it leads to friendships, and it's simply pleasant. Not everything we do that enriches our lives is physically healthy. But of course to each their own. It goes without saying thay we can make friends and have pleasant experiences in other ways, and I don't shame people for abstaining. The word "disgusting" here does come across as shaming, but maybe I should be swapping it for "repulses me" in my head, i.e., a marked subjective statement.

J44GAS was defining populism though, not making a statement on whether or not it describes a given politician or party. If we don't put "perceived" into the definition then people will argue semantics, e.g. "I don't think there's a corrupt elite, so [insert party here] is not populist."

Separately, yes, there is an obvious techno-oligarchy, and both Mamdani and Bernie have made statements against it. Thus, by the above definition, they are at least a bit populist, though naturally it's a spectrum.

I think I would still ultimately stay in Giza for at least one night to enjoy the crazy view! You put up with a bit of camel poop and kitsch, but dinner by the Pyramids is worth it. I reckon it doesn't matter much which Pyramid-view hotel you stay at, as long as reviews look OK.

But I would definitely do more nights downtown at a more legit hotel. It was such a cool area that I wish I wandered around more, especially in the evening.

I've seen a blackout at a ski resort. They had a backup generator just to get people off the lifts. I would hope the rides have something similar... Though roller coasters are generally unpowered anyway. A chain or belt pulls them up and then they just go using gravity.

If you're in the Meguro/Fudomae area, I quite like Joues de Bébé and Le Lieu Unique. The latter also has amazing stuffed croissants.

That said, I've never had anything in Tokyo that quite satisfies that craving for the deep toasted wheat aroma of a proper Parisian baguette. The texture in the bakeries above is spot on, but the aroma is like 80% there. I wonder if it's something in the air in Paris? Perhaps car fumes and pissoirs doing some secret work? 😆

time for a crosspost to /r/roastme? :D

I don't understand the use of Canada for this example though. Canada is immigration. We don't exist without it. Maybe you're referring to the temporary foreign worker programs? Those do need some serious rework.

sleeping on Mario Strikers here smh

Canadien bilingue here: je pense que "pff" et "hah" sont les plus proches.

What has changed? I visited in December 2025 and loved it. Did some of the old character disappear?

I finally visited Hong Kong after living in Tokyo for 5 years and it was amazing. Almost everything I love about Tokyo is there, plus the whole city smells like five-spice and there is fantastic urban hiking. I felt at home there instantly and wondered why it took me so long to visit. I think everyone would love this place, regardless of how much traveling they'd done.

I suppose 2019 made the place feel a little scary to outsiders for some time?

I think this is problematically worded, but I do relate to that moment when after months of learning a language, and having it be a strictly academic pursuit, you finally hear the real language being spoken and it's like "Oh right, actual people use this as their usual way of communicating!"
