I hope so, but I would be nervous about extending my human rights to the robot version of me.

If uploading my mind to a robot relinquishes my human rights I’d rather not do it

They act like Google and Facebook haven’t been doing this for years. Now because it’s user facing, I.e. you can see what it knows about you, now all of a sudden it’s big scary. Brought to you by Google, no less.

Being close to understanding something that their chosen identity depends on them not understanding, watching him basically yell at himself for almost making too much sense. It was bizarre to see the cognitive dissonance push him around inside his own head. In one voice he started to gently concede “I guess I could see your point” and then a different angry voice came in with the “no there is absolutely no reason for that” as if shouting himself down. I couldn’t stay friends with him after that.

Actually about half the time it’s very politely explaining what’s wrong with my ideas. It’s just that you have to be literate enough to understand past the nice individual words. But some people aren’t literate, so…

bruh I was only saying this like three or four years ago and getting unironically shit all over so yeah

Shloomth

It’s propaganda

Shloomth

Welp pack it in guys, they found out math wasn’t real 🤷‍♂️

Shloomth

So this is the bullshit they’re working on instead of full self driving?

The goalposts are about to accelerate to keep up with the progress

This is pretty much the setup for the Fallout series

When did this subreddit become religious

It’s not the fact that it comes from scripture it’s the whole aesthetic reminds me of those Facebook posts my grandma would email me about how Jesus is the way. The black&white image of a hand holding a tool, the misaligned text in 4 different fonts & colors…

Came to say the exact same words, very pleased the correct answer is at the top

I have observed this phenomenon lately too

The YouTube thumbnail face is evolving. It used to just be the 😱🤯😨type faces but now it’s evolved into this weird 😈👹 like sneering modeling an unthinking kind of gleeful certainty. Like the face of looking at you like they’re gonna eat you. Modeling a kind of certainty without curiosity. To make you feel like you don’t have to think about this and socially reward people for repeating the pre-approved talking points.

And if someone asks why I think someone would do this on purpose, I don’t. I think it’s an emergent property of the combination of incentives that social media lives on. Originating at “advertisers.” They know their business relies on maintaining people’s attention which has led to lean on moral urgency, which has incentivized moral sorting. “Youre x kind of person if you do y.” Right now they know AI is an existential risk to their information monopoly and will do anything to keep people afraid of even thinking about trying an alternative to Google Facebook and X

Oh wow look at that, technology making work more efficient by reducing the human cost. Huh I wonder if we can apply this general principle to all of technology and design and maybe it would let us solve more problems while reducing the required human strain

meanwhile in America, “all technology & automation is evil because it takes away jobs”

Shloomth

If this wasn’t there, people would complain about their data not working

I don’t care if a human understands something I care that there is something to understand. I may not be a doctor but I am literate enough to understand something explained simply, which is usually the mark of understanding it. Not “simply” as in “surface level superficial not-accurate,” I mean simple and accurate, like Feynman showed us wasn’t all that hard. Temperature = “atoms jiggling.” Not 100% accurate but it gets the idea across.

Like, experimental treatments aren’t “simple” but they can be simple to understand. Eg “they inject what are essentially ‘suicide genes’ into the cancer.” There’s obviously no such thing as “suicide genes” but you can imagine a dna sequence with instructions that kill the cancer cells, and then learn that it’s more of a precursor to that, and so on.

I don’t need someone else to understand it. Hell I don’t even need to know how something works to trust that it can.

For context I’ve already had cancer twice and the time I got it after AI came out it went a hell of a lot smoother than when I had it before AI

Maybe we’ll have flying machines by then. The New York Times said it would be 1-10 million years

I lived on campus and it was miserable

Shloomth

I lived on campus and still missed out but apparently nobody wants to hear that

Nope, that’s just google and meta. OpenAI isn’t doing that. Neither is Anthropic. Also, you’re allowed to use more than one of them. Also you don’t have to tell it everything about yourself. Also, Anthropic and OpenAI’s business models aren’t 80% reliant on advertisers, the way meta and google are.

So I kinda really wish we could stop conflating these companies acting like they’re interchangeable when they’re really not, while also pretending that their products aren’t interchangeable when they are.

Shloomth

It would be 80% heavier but only about 20% cooler

This made me laugh with my diaphragm & wrinkled my brain a little. This is the kind of shit that would happen in my weird-ass dreams. thank you
