Massive debut compared to the old RE films and reviews way better - I just saw it myself, movie is a great time. I'd be surprised if it doesn't end its run as the highest grossing RE movie of all time.

Played the demo, I really wanted to like this game but it just wasn't what I expected.
For starters, the beginning is painfully slow if you have any experience with programming. Basic control flow needs to be incrementally unlocked and the tutorial guide walks you through everything. I don't hold this against the game since it's not going to be intuitive to everyone, but some design decisions are kind of annoying. For example, the golems have distinct stats that make them more effective at certain things - the thief will do high physical attack damage but the mage will tickle the enemy. This would be fine if they gave the mage a spell at the start, but the two code blocks you start with is a physical attack and then targeting the highest HP enemy. I wasn't able to get a useful magic based attack for my mage until floor 2.
The other thing about this game that put me off is that it's really more of a puzzle game with a hard-coded solution. Each floor in the demo is completely deterministic with zero RNG - monster locations and dungeon layout is ALWAYS the same. That means there's a sequence of code blocks that perfectly solves the floor. I was wondering why the game was so stingy with unlocking more specific code blocks like various if-conditions (i.e. if party member HP <X%, if enemy is <species>, etc) and it's because some of these blocks are basically the key to getting past a specific enemy configuration or layout in the floor.
This isn't bad persay, it's just not really what I expected. I was hoping the game would just give you a big bag of code blocks and let you loose in a large randomly generated dungeon. That way, rather than having a specific algorithm to perfectly solve each floor, you actually need to have robust and versatile code capable of dealing with a variety of situations. As the game is now, it's more of a programming themed puzzle-solver than an automated free-form dungeon crawler. Granted, it's entirely possible the later levels in the actual game could have dungeons with more RNG in their layout - but I'm not interested in slogging through a bunch of puzzles to get to that point.
I want to be clear that I don't think this is a bad game. A puzzle-solver is more accessible and I genuinely like the art style. I do hope this game succeeds because we can always do with more interesting concepts.

ALso happening to me - tried reinstalling, booting up the game to set keybinds, and then rebooted and it was lost again.
SirYe
I reinstalled the game, booted it up and set my keybinds. Then I closed the game (exited via menus, didn't alt+f4) and on the next bootup, I had to set the keybinds again. So few people even seem to have this issue that I'm not confident they'll have it fixed for launch. If you plan on buying it on launch, let me know if this is better.
SirYe
Is anyone's keybinds not saving? I'm playing on keyboard and I have to set my keybinds everytime I open up the game, it's getting very annoying.

It's less so about Java and moreso about backend development. I deploy to Linux hosts so Mac makes a lot more sense since it's Unix-based.
SirYe
It could be worse - like not having a job in this shit ass economy
SirYe
Depends on what your niche is but I do backend Java development and I would never use Windows for professional development if it can be helped.
SirYe
Thanks for the opportunity!

Characters:
Greg: Gamer wearing green shirt with tri-force symbol (three yellow triangles stacked together). He's also wearing brown shorts, cyan slippers, a purple-ish/blue headset and is holding a grey game controller. Beige skin tones. Sitting on an office chair.
Kevin: Another gamer wearing a reddish/pink shirt with a yellow star symbol as well as blue pants. He also has a grey game controller and is wearing a pale red headset. Sitting on an office chair.
Gilbert: Yet another gamer with a bald head and brown neckbeard. He's wearing a black shirt with a skull printed on it, green headset with cat ear accessories on top, grey pants, white socks with one blue and one red line, and brown sandals over his socks. He's holding a light grey controller with darker grey accents on the bottom. He's sitting on a fancy red/grey gaming chair.
PANEL 1
Greg is sitting on his chair and yelling at his television set. His right arm holding his controller, but his left arm is up in the air in protest. He's angrily yelling "DANG IT! This guy keeps killing me".
PANEL 2
The comic panel into two segments by a straight line running from top left to bottom right. The left segment is Greg and the right Segment shows Kevin. The center of the line has a microphone symbol to indicate that they are communicating via online voice chat.
Kevin says "Just position better, bro!".
Greg, who is already annoyed and now slightly confused, gives Kevin the side-eye when hearing his advice.
PANEL 3
We see Gilbert playing his game and looking at his flat screen television set. He exclaims, with maximum smugness, "HEH! This noob is out of position". This is clearly in reference to Greg's character in the game.
In the background, we see a window in Gilbert's home that shows a crescent yellow moon in a dark purple sky. A dark silhouette of another character is peering through his window with beady white eyes.
PANEL 4
Greg pops out of nowhere and threatens Gilbert with a letter opener. The letter opener is stylized after the Master Sword in the Legend of Zelda series. It's a joke prop, but it looks sharp. Gilbert is very nervous and distressed. Greg says to Gilbert, "AM I NOW?" in response to Gilbert's comment about his game positioning.

Right, but your original statement came off as consoles offer the better image quality even against a 5090. Which, if you believed that, begs the question why you would spend 4-5x the cost of a console for just one component.
I don't think that's what you meant, but when you combine those statements - it comes off in a confusing way.
SirYe
And despite all this, I still think consoles are the better pure gaming device for most people.
Yep, they're cheaper and easier to plug and play
but I care far more about the final image than the rendering methodology behind it.
Uh, why did you buy a 5090 then?
SirYe
Wait, it was a game this whole time?!?
SirYe
On the accoustic front, AIOs handle transient spikes in temperatures better. My air cooler was a lot more loud and annoying in these cases, like with compiling shaders.
SirYe
Why does that biker have a rock (?) for a head?

Honestly, I don't even need them to be equal. Just make the UI/UX not unbearable to navigate with MKB and I'd be happy with that. I'm always in support of more viable options to play.
Though personally, I've played through the Monster Hunter franchise (3rd person dodge roll melee combat) through a lot of different control schemes over the years. I'm talking PSP, Wii Mote, regular controller, and MKB and personally, MKB feels best for me. I agree that AC6 is a different style but I think if Monster Hunter can pull it off, so can Souls games.
SirYe
Same reason why they should implement DLSS, frame rate unlock, and Ultra wide support. It makes the game more accessible to a variety of players. While we're at it, throw in more settings to help players with color blindness or other disabilities.
No, I don't care if only a few players benefit. I'm not interested in debating whether X feature results in Y% return on investment.
SirYe
I feel like souls games are better suited to controller because Fromsoft just doesn't care to implement good MKB controls. Navigating the UI/UX on MKB is an extremely painfully clear example of this.
I've been playing controllers all my life with the Monster Hunter franchise (similar-ish 3rd person dodge-roll combat) and after trying MKB in World, I just couldn't go back (even though I begrudgingly had to for Rise on Switch). Especially now in MHWilds, with the new focus system allowing you to adjust your aim mid-swing, tracking the monster with MKB becomes more powerful. There's also multiple occasions where my controller players would faint because they couldn't turn fast enough. Lock-on implementation becomes a point of contention in these types of games where an enemy zips around fast enough, but it only matters for controller.
I'm hoping this will change in the next Elden Ring type of game. Armored Core was always a controller game until they implemented stellar MKB controls in AC6.

I think folks are upset that the comic doesn't address how horrid the job market is. Job searching is a soul sucking experience right now. My best guess is that people are interpreting this comic as sending a "just get a new job" message which would be tone deaf given the current atmosphere.
But I don't think the author is trying to convey that, I think the message here is to try.
SirYe
Job searching doesn't require quitting your current job.
Yes, it sucks to start job searching after a long day at work. Yes, the job market sucks and nothing might come of job searching, but you miss 100% of the shots you don't take.
SirYe
Block is actually really good now. You might've played back when it wasn't good.
Block has zero startup frames, and a perfect block grants a stack of adrenaline surge that increases the next melee strike by 30% damage, restores armor segment, and releases an explosion upon hitting an enemy (max 2 stacks for +90% damage).
Now, they should really explain this in the game (which is a separate issue altogether), but at least they are improving things here and there.
Edit: 1 stack is +30%, 2 is +90%, they should really explain this stuff in game lol

I don't think Fortnite or Valorant players are interested in the steam machine? Those games require kernel level anti-cheat which aren't compatible with linux.
And if a Fortnite/Valorant player has the know-how and will to install windows on a steam machine, they probably have a better rig.
SirYe
Or maybe the articles you're reading simply haven't mentioned it? I've already seen multiple and Embark claims it's a combination of TTS and actual voice acting, not generative AI.
Up to you if you want to believe them, but there's definitely articles on this.
Try playing zero to hero - I literally just go in with the free gun, free pouch, no armor, binoculars and a parachute if the APC spawn isn't up. Literally less than $1k worth kit.
Just being in the zone and spotting a thing or two gets you positive. Then I spend my time scavenging for backpacks and trying to get the jump on someone. Usually only able to get 1 maybe 2 kills a life, but roughly every 1 in 4 lives I trade upwards and profit 5 digits.
