Here's my 2 cents. TLDR She just cannot fathom the depth of his abuse, and the extent to which Kiyo is abnormal. And nobody could fault her for that tbh.

Who would imagine the guy "raised" his son in a mental torture facility? Who would imagine the guy doesn't see Kiyo as a son beyond his usefulness as an asset and a tool for his own convenience?

He showed up to the interview and showed enough concern for his son, and all she can do is make assumptions with the very limited info she has. As far as she knows, he educated Kiyo very well, he might love and care for his son but act controlling and show a strict and stern front, and Kiyo, even if he's not the usual teenager, might just dislike him like a usual teenager would dislike control and strictness.

The guy acted through the whole meeting with her. Hell, Kiyo went along with it. Didn't correct her wrong assumption. Her impression was that he was pretty okay, and thus there's nothing wrong with saying so. She obviously lacks context.

Rudeus thinks about this very topic in volume 23. He envisions Philip convincing him, marrying him to Eris and executing some plot to take control over the Boreas family. Eventually Sylphie and Roxy would join him as mistresses. Something along those lines.

Smokemantra

Sylphie probably does have the mana Laplace Aspect.

When Orsted describes the LA, the text kinda lumps the mana and the proficiency for magic together (unlike Laplace's other traits like demon eyes, no touki, green hair), and we know Sylphie managed a chantless cast incredibly quickly, just like Rudeus.

Rudeus has the mana LA, but his mana amount is crazy thanks to him training himself specifically on mana amount super early, and this is said by Orsted, in the same scene he directly tells Rudeus that without the early training, he would only have more than normal "like Sylphiette".

Smokemantra

Whole point is about being pedantic and nothing else

Can't take someone else doing the same to them

Smokemantra

Oldeus represented only wrong things. He turned himself into what he became out of anger and frustration and a desire for vengeance. The way I see it, Rudeus did not want to become like what he read in the diary, and he didn't have a need to. He tried his best to live a life he wouldn't regret, he didn't live a perfect life but in the end he was content, so he had no need whatsoever for time travel.

As for his combat capabilities, he didn't need to take them farther because after the main plot of MT, he basically had no enemies left to fight. I do think him finally getting into gravity magic would've been cool though. He was curious about it, but didn't get far into it.

The cause of the displacement incident imo is not really worth going too deep into, at least until we get sequel content. It's effectively an isolated incident in an alternate timeline, like the diary's contents. The incident itself may have made the plot take a big swerve, but the cause to me feels like it's almost severed from the story.

Also who even is Chandles lol I've never even seen that word before. TIL. I've only seen him localized as Sándor which is just much cooler if you ask me.

Lucie had the misunderstanding until adulthood, and the other kids, particularly Arus and Sieg, also got it by extension, and it impacted them in their own ways.

Lara wasn't really affected because she only ever marched to the beat of her own drum, and Lily and Chris were too young, plus Lily was self-absorbed like Lara, and Chris was the one kid that never held back in interacting with him, so she was by a big margin the closest to Rudeus growing up.

Now, I get your point, but I don't really see what needs fixing. Sure, Rudeus could've done a better job, but would there be more value in the story if he had done a perfect job in raising his kids, and they grew up with no issues at all?

In the end it all boils down to miscommunication, which is one of the biggest sources of conflict in MT. Rudeus being too lenient, and not spending enough time with his kids is the big flaw in their upbringing, and it helps shape them as people, for better or worse, and that is very human.

Some relevant excerpts I remember, in chronological order (more or less). Wall of text warning.

In Redundancy 2, Lucie has an outburst because she thinks he has no expectations:

Why didn't dad expect anything of her? She'd never understood. She tried so hard at both swordcraft and magic. She got nothing but good grades at school. She was a good big sister, but dad had never once told her what he wanted her to do or what he wanted her to be. He always brushed her off, saying that she should live the life she wanted, or that she didn't have to worry about that just because she was the eldest.

Arus in Redundancy 3:

[old Arus]
He always seemed so far away. Part of that was because he was rarely home, but the other part was how everyone respected him so much. (...) all the amazing people I knew respected my father.
But as far as I can tell, he wasn't much of a father, you might say?
Well, you're not wrong. Looking back on it, I agree. He wasn't strict enough. When I messed up, he never reprimanded me. He'd just smile and tell me to be more careful next time.

[Rudeus]: "Your studies and training are important, but try not to work yourself too hard. If you hurt your mind and body, all of it will be for naught."
[10 year old Arus] When I heard him say that, I realized something: Lucie was right. Our father had no expectations of us. After all, at my age, he'd already been a Saint-tier Magician and an Intermediate-tier Swordsman. We were well behind him at this point in our lives. He really didn't expect anything of us.

[old Arus]
Rudeus hadn't been a very fatherlike father. If anything, Red Mama was more of a father figure to Arus. In fact, when Arus became a father himself, he had the feeling that he modeled his behavior after Red Mama. But perhaps Rudeus had the same mindset Arus held now.
"That's how you interact with your grandkids, not your actual children, dad..." Arus whispered, looking down at The Book Of Rudeus.
Rudeus Greyrat continued to be spoken of long after his death, but he hadn't been a particularly good father. After reading his journal, however, Arus realized that his father had tried his best - fumbling as it might have been - to raise Arus and his siblings.
Arus had done the same with his own son. He felt he'd done a better job than his father, but he couldn't say he was perfect.
(...) Arus couldn't understand Rudeus when he was younger. Even after having grandchildren of his own, maybe he still didn't. But he had the feeling he was getting close.

Sieg in Jobless Oblige:

I want to see.
No matter the kingdom, talents, marriage, or the person he becomes.
I just want to witness his future.
Surely, that was the same as Father’s “expectations” as well.
That’s why Father held his silence for so long.
To me, big sis, big brother, to small sis.
"Dad is really amazing."
It suddenly dawned on me.

(...) after talking to Father, it all cleared up for me.
What my heart desires.
Lara and Lily listened quietly without interrupting me.
"I feel glad that I talked with Dad."
“Until Lucy got married, she always misunderstood Dad as well, because dad was always so lenient on us.”
"Ah... yes."
Father was always lenient with us.
Too lenient.
I didn't realize it until now.
Indeed, bigger sis finally had a heart-to-heart with Father only after getting married.
Maybe because it was only then, just like I am now, that she realized Father’s feelings.

And this one is from what will eventually be Redundancy 4 (so it may vary once it becomes LN canon):

Lucy and the rest of my children were all afraid of me.
I couldn't understand why at first. Somehow, it felt like I was being avoided. (...) Maybe my kids hate me? There are days where I mull over things like that. Last I heard from Sieg, it doesn't seem like I'm hated though... I am well respected in the house, thanks to all the effort I've put in until now. My children are all working hard so as to not disappoint me. Things like coming to me for advice are so absurd to them that it's out of the question.
Naturally, I am happy about it. It's 'respect' after all. I can't be unhappy about it.
In my efforts to become a dignified father, I more or less achieved the result I wanted, after all.
But at the same time, it's kind of lonely...
(...) Thanks to Sieg, the misunderstanding with Lucie was cleared up.
I can't thank Sieg enough.

Ibuki was never in real danger.

Only one expulsion was possible in this exam, and it was Shinohara who was bothering Kushida. Ike knew Shinohara was doing something unfair and awful, and also, even if he's a bum, he has shown to at least have some use unlike Shinohara.

Smokemantra

Nekotatsu is that you

Smokemantra

Kira was revived just to die again

Smokemantra

Meh. He has 10 volumes to manipulate the score.

Smokemantra

if you care about his character

This is where you assumed wrong. They're here for memes and powerscaling and using buzzwords like bum and fraud.

Smokemantra

Agreed. And imo it was obvious that it would be Shinohara, mainly because of 2 things: she's been really pushing her luck way harder than her skills allowed; and Ike at least has some semblance of usefulness and maturity in the story (meaning it's possible for this to be a catalyst), while she never had anything positive going for her and would likely achieve nothing if Ike was gone instead.

Smokemantra

This is still a boon for him though, he gets to keep her around.

Smokemantra

Rather than not valid, he already fulfilled that one.

Smokemantra

Defend her? They wanted this

Smokemantra

I don't really understand why we're arguing about this

Because people are telling you what happened, and you basically just say no.

I still don't really understand why Ayanaokoji did this, but I guess he just wanted to get rid of her and thought it would be Funny

At least you're admitting that you don't understand what you're reading. I mean no offense.

Sakayanagi was the one that expelled Yamauchi. Ayanokouji knew that he was safe and wouldn't have to lift a finger during that exam.

Sakura's expulsion was a spur of the moment thing. After Horikita decided to shield Kushida, he had to come up with something, because they'd lose the exam otherwise.

He did plan to expel Maezono because their class wouldn't be penalized and she was betraying Horikita, and because it would help bring down Ichinose by making her an accomplice.

Smokemantra

There's almost nothing about him in the story.

He's a year older than Sakusa and is the captain and a key player of their team. He basically has a great track record, has a good personality, won awards for his play, manages himself well, is really skilled.

In the spring high we followed, he got injured in their quarterfinals game, and that's why Itachiyama lose and only get top 8.

After the time skip, during Sakusa's backstory we learn that he goes on to play professionally in div 1, in the same team as Kai, a blocker who was from from Inubushi, the team that beat them that time.

Smokemantra

Correct me if I'm wrong, but they don't usually skip releases once they start with a group, like how for JUSH they did DT > Yummy > K9 in consecutive months. Doing KT > Heca and then not Enneacraft feels weird.

There is room. New selection packs consistently add 40 new cards to the game (with about 12 of the 40 being new URs) afaik.

Albaz lore has 12 cards to add iirc, Enneacraft has 14, Darklord has 5, that's only 31 cards. These are a lock imo.

The question for me is whether Shaddoll comes (they just started to release Terminal World support, which is 5 cards per archetype and while tight, it fits) and possibly Forbidden Crown (or maybe they'll add Crown to the next pack with other staples like Fidraulis/Spark).

With the recent Flip and Secret Pack changes, my gut feeling is Albaz lore, Darklord, Enneacraft and possibly Shaddoll.

Summon cupsy yummy + search habakiri

Just unban unicorn and wraitsoth already

The Cote Y1 manga is the one medium that's like is a parallel dimension. It just feels jarring. I can't consider it a viable alternative.

The Cote Y2 manga, however, is nothing less than awesome. Great art. As well adapted as it can be.

Smokemantra

After Sakayanagi talked to him, he knew he wouldn't have to lift a finger.

Smokemantra

It's because Matsushita was in it

Smokemantra

I know Yugipedia explains things like design, playstyle, archetype cards, etc. / example

Smokemantra

While not such a bad idea, I don't see it holding up, and here's why.

People have stated that Roger said the same words as Luffy. For your idea to work, Roger's and Luffy's words would have to be "I want to hide the one piece" and that makes no sense for Roger to say to WB and Oden, long before the one piece as a concept was a thing.
