But we're allowed to just call her C.U.N.K. right? :(

SonicFlash01

90s kids hunger for X-men. There's a reason it was one of the first properties to get bought up

SonicFlash01

I had figured that I somehow "picked wrong" with my abilities and wondered where all this falter was supposed to come from. Honestly I just Huck rocks at little enemies to hopefully falter them before they die. I feel like if it did 1% more damage my entire ability to get dominance would be fucked.

SonicFlash01

Drill isn't as good as I thought it would be, but comments today have suggested I just pepper in talents for anything

SonicFlash01

We have two mysteries and honestly it makes sense that one is the answer to the other

SonicFlash01

Bacteria

And vasectomies are genuinely pain-free now. The incision is barely larger than a pin-hole. Easiest shit ever and I can take some burden off the missus

SonicFlash01

Yeah I've seen some secret bases and some subways and testing facilities and such. Usually those will have a ^ or v next to the icon to indicate that it's below ground or on a roof or something - I figure if I'm standing on that icon and it has neither ^ nor v, then there's something I'm not getting.

For a lot of the icons, the idea that that's the ending point and the starting point could be half the area away makes the icons... well, not worth very much? "There's a resource in this broad area", but not even quite as helpful-yet-broad as something like Belmont's Curse does.

Admittedly I'm operating off a series of instances where nothing lined up no matter what I tried. A parking garage in central that's supposed to have an FBC task that has no nearby buildings to ramp up off, and all entrances are sealed. Another "ability gate" icon in NE central where I'm on the right X/Y/Z, but there's nothing there to attack, pound, burn, etc. A series of disconnected instances where I'd pretty much have to screenshot each.

For main story shit? Clear as day. But so much is not a primary quest, or a quest at all. Often the map will say "There's a resource crate here, and it's even level with your current position" and it's nowhere to be found, or it's below ground, but nothing in any nearby street to suggest a subway entrance or pipe, or on top of a roof, again with no obvious route from nearby rooves.

Goku stopped Krillin from killing him on Earth. Then on Namek, Vegeta figured out the weird saiyin injury hack and had Krillin almost-kill him while they had a few moments to spare. I'll give Vegeta atleast enough credit to say that he could always beat Krillin.

SonicFlash01

In season 1? Seem to recall Vegeta fled that fight. Krillin could have finished him off but Goku stopped him.

Loved 1. Love open-world metroidvanias as well.
Some things in this game are "come back later" and some are "puzzle it out now", and it's done seemingly everything imaginable for you to not know which is which. IMO, it would be generous to the player to signal either way. If a jump is comically out of reach or a specific mcguffin lock is in the way it lets the player know early to keep moving. Otherwise I'll throw time at finding whatever overworld marker you added.

SonicFlash01

I feel like acceptable architects in that range are "heart of gold but struggles to win" where they're the scrappy underdog you root for, or "haughty/prideful and never loses" where atleast they're useful and you love to hate them
...Meanwhile Vegeta thinks he's hot shit, but he's actually just room-temp diarrhea. The coworker that's abrasive but also not good at his job.

SonicFlash01

I always went with "Mr Roper AND Mr Furley from Three's Company"
Somehow both

SonicFlash01

The guy that's never won a fight against a primary antagonists? He racked up some flunkie kills on Namek, but, like, he lost every other fight ever.

SonicFlash01

I've been to the gap, and I've upgraded my weapon, but do I get others? Can I buy the things I didn't choose from there?

SonicFlash01

Thing is, sometimes you're not meant to get there yet, and other times you are, and it isn't clear which bucket you're in until you expend time and effort, and/or trying to google it, and even then there's no guarantee you'll know. Let me reliably determine when I need to come back later. Most metroidvania games do this very well and very easily, sometimes this game doesn't.

Those distorted glassy orbs at the tops of buildings are an example where they did it well - I can see something that I know I don't have a power for yet: message received! The access keys are another good example. Sometimes the map will have an icon indicating "power needed" but there's nothing at that spot. Other times the map is relatively unhelpful - it assumes I'm a bird that can see through arbitrary walls.

SonicFlash01

I imagine all of that is still in flux, and the details of a distinction that doesn't exist yet is still actively being debated before they start announcing things to tens of millions of people and having that stuck as the defacto definition, even though it may change the next day.

In my imagination, atleast, we're getting no details because it's still an idea and not concrete enough yet to announce.

SonicFlash01

such as going down the sinkhole

Ah, that's in my quest log to do, so I'll save that for when I need something fun. The 3D parkade with Zoe blasting music was a fun time. The next time she played music (evacuation zone) I was just... leaving a building, running around a dark and rainy area, and the music is just blaring and there's nothing to do, and it's tonally discordant. Good song, don't know why she played it then.

switch weapons

Was I supposed to have gotten others? I have an X weapon and a Y weapon (using the Xbox button layout) and then some of the trigger/bumper abilities, but I never got anything else to replace X or Y. Do I eventually get the resonant/weapon abilities that I didn't choose? There's a UI showing that I should probably have them at some point? I don't know how that's supposed to eventually work or if I failed to notice that I was supposed to be doing something there.

SonicFlash01

I know much of that - I've been around long enough and seen enough games to know when something isn't for me, but it's always worth asking if I've missed something or I've fallen into a pitfall.

SonicFlash01

It's... not gripping me, tbh, and I wonder if I'm just doing all of it wrong? I'm assuming it's a "me" problem. I have far too many questions that the naming conventions and samey architecture are making difficult to search on. The reward for really exploring and busting my ass to solve one small fiddly little puzzle is $20 and a Cryptic Fart, but any upgrade for any weapon requires none of the shit I'm picking up.

Every chore is either tedious or requires far more topographical knowledge than the map was ever going to give me. "You're here, and the thing you need is just down the unobstructed street. Look, a clean, unbroken white line!"
"Then why is there a giant wall in the way?"
"I dunno"
"There doesn't seem to be any way around it... How do I get there? And if I'm meant to know another time, when?"
"Couldn't tell yah"
"Am I not meant to deal with these map markers until later?"
"Boy, good question. hey look, any gym that you can explore, with nothing inside, with no clear explanation at to their purpose!"

Combat is... Well I think I need to respec entirely to make it either more fun or more effective? I'd settle for either tbh. I've missed something to make this engaging. Right now I'm just blasting a little enemy with rocks, gaining Dominance, and using that to take down bigger enemies. It's not a terribly rich loop, and my drill doesn't seem to be more effective at anything.

So, so often I question "How do I get on that roof over there?" and I can only care so many times before I just stop. It's the only thing the game wants me to do: get to place, and the solution is always cryptic *subway entrance three streets over, pipe entrance on the other side of the area, pinging up smaller rooves in concentric circles, etc). I feel like it's burning me out and I've only killed (I think) 3 resonants.

...and then everyone thinks it's GOTY. Honest question: how am I fucking this game up?

SonicFlash01

"We had one shitty dominoes date at a dive bar where I came on too strong - time for marriage!"
She has no fucking idea what she's doing, huh? Like, her understanding of relationships is worse than an alien that arrived from off-planet yesterday

SonicFlash01

I had to pity the last four sync pairs I pulled for. Might as well skip the next two months at this rate if I ever want anything again.

SonicFlash01

In BBS your stat gains (and how they matter) diminish greatly past the levels you'd normally get to casually, however in KH3 it's the opposite, so yeah give me yolked-up level 99 Aqua!
