Yes. Part of me hopes that you suceed in some areas, and chip away at the 'reasons' 'they' say we can't have Universal Healthcare.

My view? It's a slap in the face to my ancestors and th 10,000 white men who fought for the Union and to those who opposed slavery.

My step father's ancestor's farm was invaded by Confederates because he dared to support the Union.

Family lore is the only reason one of my mom's ancestors joined the CSA was because a conscription gang shot and killed his brother. Yes, similar to that scene in Cold Mountain.

Did you know there was another 'underground' railroad in Virginia? It was Mennonites, Bretheren, Quakers and other pacifist denominations who refused to fight and who opposed slavery? The young men were ferried out through West Virginia to the north where they were taken in by other congregations.

I wondered why so many of my older relatives were Republicans back when the south was mostly voted Democratic (apart from the Cherokees who didn't vote for any Democrate for a long time because that was the party of Andrew Jackson). Then I learned the history behind the switch, so when the party changed, most of them did too. If anyone mentions the Cherokees fighting for the CSA, my ancestor was one of the few who deserted to join the Union.

So no flag waving at our house.

I think he speaks like a child, understandable because as far as I can tell, he only speaks French with his father and grandparents. He needs to live there for a while, or get a tutor. He's sort of like Sebastian Stan speaking Romanian. They can understand him, but after he moved to the states, he only spoke the language with his family.

All the time. We have Oktoberfest but in all fairness, this area had a lot of German Settlers. St. Patrick's Day, Cinco de Mayo...but those are Americanized versions of the cultures, so I don't know if they count. Chinese New Year is a thing in some regions. I've seen some scattered ideas about making St. Andrews Day a thing for people of Scottish descent, but I'm not sure how it would be celebrated. Probably with lots of drinking.

They later mended fences. Mulgrew apologized. She was really angry at the producers and took it out on Jeri, who did nothing wrong.

Sounds like what happened to my mother-in-law. Her ex was the same way. As soon as her youngest turned 18 he joined the Navy and she was out of there.

Have her watch a youtube video of a professional interior designer ranting about people having too many pillows. I watch a lot of them, and most say it's unnecessary.

I knew a man who was the youngest of eleven. His mother passed when he was eight. When someone asked what his mother died of, without blinking an eye, he said,'Having too many children. '

Yes...you are allowed....but....

Wasn't it written somewhere that descendants of Numenor didn't have beards? Yet in the movies Aragorn, Boromir, and Faramir all did. Not a peep from anyone.

And Sam wasn't fat...Isildur did nothing wrong, hobbits didn't have big feet...could go on and on.

It's interesting why one aspect of the lore seems so important when others get dismissed.

Didn't Chalamet's mother perform on Broadway? I might be remembering it wrong, but it seems she was a dancer. I don't know if that helped him in any way, just that she was also in the entertainment industry.

I was in Louisville around the time he passed away. There were banners up everywhere with his face on it....funny how he went from being refused service to a favorite son.

I read a story like this about an American born woman of Pakistani descent who was forcibly 'engaged' to a man back in Pakistan. To get out of it, she joined the military. Drastic, measures but it worked out for her.

I have no problem with any of that.

I'm not Lakota, so you'll have to get their opinion on that, but I happen to be Indigenous. Eastern Cherokee (and no, I don't speak for all Natives everywhere). The posters here aren't blindly worshiping Sherman. The man did great things, but he could also be a PoS at times, like a lot of other people in history. We're here (or at least I am) because we want to do everything we can to counteract lost cause mythology. I also happen to be a descendant of Southern Union loyalists (yes, even the Cherokee ancestors) and they often get overlooked in these discussions. If posting memes and making jokes about Sherman helps, that's what we do.
