Hahah, sorry if I came across a little harsh. I think us in the indie sphere get a bit attached to our beloved indie houses because it feels like a more personal buying experience due to the small-business nature of it all. I think that’s why you’re getting so much feedback (hopefully none too cruel). I personally didn’t like Cocoapinks perfumes much either, but I liked the body butter I got. Ultimately in this economy it’s a good thing you are picky, it means your wallet stays a little fuller 🥲

Echoing what u/TwentySevenBugs said, Cocoapink is a house which uses fragrance oils so that they can use the same scent profile across soaps, body butter, and perfume. It’s fantastic if you find a fragrance of theirs that you like because you can have it in every form you could possibly want. At the same time, this means that Cocoapink is limited in the type of fragrance materials they can use because they need the fragrance to work with soaps and fats and oils. So you aren’t so likely to end up with a “fine perfumery” result, but instead more likely to end up with something that smells like, well, a fragrance for a soap or lotion.
I think this is a bad reason to write off indie fragrance houses altogether. Try Cocoapink for what they’re known for: get a sample or small size of their body butters or scrubs in a few of the scents you like from your sampling. And.. don’t make a huge order from a house you have no experience with. Maybe try some houses which are focused on Perfume and not body products, my recs are Fantome, Sorce, Cirrus, and Olympic Orchids, (though if you’re going for Cocoapink, I guess you’re looking for gourmands, try Sorce or maybe Briix or Kyse). And when you try these houses try to just get a few of their best sellers, and maybe one or two random ones that speak to you. I think 5-7 samples, mostly composed of bestsellers, is a good amount to get a flavor of the perfume house. Then, if you like the vision of the artist based on the samples, that’s when I would say to go ham and get like 30 samples.

Soooo pretty!!!

I own Antifragile and it is nowhere near this saturated

as someone new to this persons videos, WHERE ARE THE RESULTS???????? how am I supposed to know if it looks like a snowy day or a walk through the woods??? you didn’t show me anything!!

This is not an indie rec, but if you have a Lush at your local mall, stop in and sample their body spray in “Dirty”. It is MINT and it’s very strong and as a body spray it’s well priced (I think it performs better than their perfume version of the same scent). Only negative is the ugly spray bottle it comes in, haha

Yes, swatching is work. But, you knew you weren’t going to be paid when you initially signed on. It’s fair that you eventually decided you wanted to be paid, and I think it’s fair for the brand to say that they couldn’t currently pay you and to stop sending you PR so you would stop doing unpaid work. Then, eventually, they DID pay you, at the rate you requested, even though it was beyond what they could really afford. And then they announced changes to the swatch program, and their intention to pay swatchers going forward.
Could they have been better at communication? Yes. But - they paid you when they could. And they paid you at your requested rate. And, despite your confrontation, they still tried to include you in the new swatching program. But for some reason this isn’t good enough for you? And apparently it is so egregious that you now need to publicly put them on blast?
I’m sorry but what DO you want? What would have made you happy here? You knew it was an unpaid gig when you started. You eventually got paid for all your work, even though you started while knowing/agreeing it would be unpaid. They were nothing but kind in their responses to you - even if they were delayed.

people are going to read this title and think, “ooh, BPAL is selling a Snake Oil with pheromones?” 😂
Sp4c34ndT1m3
i feel like i have to be the basic person who says Secretions Magnefiques by Etat Libre d’Orange. it is sweat, semen, spit, and blood.
edit: it may also be of interest to you to get your nose on some of the so-called pheromone perfumes. I think Alkemia sells some

It is much more of an artistic interpretation of sex, with notes like incense, oud, etc.
edit, My reviews of some Devs from last year:
Dev #1: Foreplay
“Sweet animalic which is super interesting. The cloves and spices create something bubblegummy which melds rather effortlessly into something animalic musky-furry. The animalic aspect smells a lot like Gather's "Soft Animal". I find it intriguing and pleasant. Sweet cloves and vanilla and bubblegum-resin on a bed of musky fur. Besides the bubblegum-to-furs journey there is not much else going on.”
Dev #2: The Main Act
“The bubblegummy sweetness of Dev 1 is now gone, in its place the animalics have punched up and this thick incense is now present. Now the rose has come out and its a very classic-perfumery rose, a rose that's dry and stuffy and studious, with that jammy rosiness that I don't like (but this is because I generally do not like the smell of rose, no fault of the perfume). There's a weirdly sweet incense stick and old slighty-musty wood.”
Sorry my reviews are not very linguistically interesting. I generally LOVE Olympic Orchids, but when you’re asking for a genuine sex note, idk if the actual smell of sex is here, although artistically the idea may be.

these are so cute and look so whimsical 😭❤️ pls indie brands reach out to this artist 😭

It’s kind an Amy Winehouse vibe. If you like it, rock it. All style requires is confidence.

I hope you find something good, please update if you do! There really is no better smell than walking by the peaches in the produce section when peaches are in season. It is one of those unbelievably fantastic smells which I would wear every day if I could, but I’m betting that whatever chemical(s) is responsible for that fresh peach smell is too volatile and not possible to capture in alcohol…

I think she had a bit of a Freudian slip here as well because she says
“my shop has never turned out a legitimate refund request”
rather than
“my shop has never turned down a legitimate refund request”

this 1000x. I love their bright, glowy, super-fine particle shimmer formula. I could wear polishes with just that formula of theirs forever .
Sp4c34ndT1m3
Can you please sell these in kits. The polish and the chrome powder (and maybe a water based top coat too)
Sp4c34ndT1m3
don’t
they have a long history of bad behavior
from the discord brand awareness channel:
“
Issues with Drunk Fairy Polish:
Threatening to harass another maker
• Threatening to find out where the maker lives and to send them hatemail
Threatening to harass another brand
• threatening to create alternative fake accounts to harass the brand online
Blatant Racism
• Threatening to specifically send trumpesque hatemail to the other maker because they are black

if you search their name in this subreddit you can find some of the history of these claims and even listen to the voice memos

They emailed about the missing 15mLs on Jul 27, reached out twice, then chargeback on Aug 10
edit: I don’t say this to condone or side with either side, just as information
