If he can steamroll he steamrolls, dwarfs have high auto resolve weight but often times take long time before they can get those high auto resolve units. You see something similar with thorgrim, if he wins his starting battles against skarsnik he will steamroll southwards.

So if he survives with his starting army till around turn 50, he pretty much won. Now he can get the thunderers and other high weight units recruited.

Edit: Pretty much from what i can see from my dwarf campaigns, all the ranged units except gyrocopters (excluding bomber) have really high auto resolve favorability. While melee units excluding ironbreakers often times dont have that high favorability. In most auto results the ranged units survive 60-90% while melee units get decimated.

The same way in english you translate schadenfreude into its english components leaving you most often with a new sentence or leave it as is with people needing to learn the meaning. Eventually with a high enough amount of people knowing what the word means it will create a new borrowed word in the english vernacular.

Guess what, i had forgotten to turn on diplomacy at the start of that campaign and ohh boy guess who got ultimate crisis with all his armies on the frontlines away from angry dwarfs and angry elves in the heart of my empire...
