One of my professors was very serious about the difference between "random" and "arbitrary".

You're right about nostalgia. If everyone's memory of fast food were erased tomorrow, so nobody knew what a McDonald's was, nobody would go there.

It simply does not make sense: the rich can get much better quality at modern fast food prices, and the poor can get modern fast food quality for a much cheaper price, elsewhere.

The modes with multiple rounds do more to smooth out anomalies though.

In push, more than any other mode, one team gains a huge advantage at the start if someone on the other team is AFK, has a particularly unfavorable matchup, gets picked early (e.g. dies to a widow one shot before team comp is known), etc. And from there, lots of people don't play their best if they feel that it's an uphill fight.

Overwatch is all about coordination, and push games can be shockingly uncoordinated in ways the other modes just aren't as often. They do end quickly if it's a stomp though, I'll give you that.

My commute to work has a protected left turn at a very long light, sometimes with upwards of a dozen cars accumulating in the lane. It's infuriating to watch a fifth of those cars not make the light, when they otherwise could have, because we have to wait for her to look up from her phone, then him, and so on.

Slow projectiles don't matter when she's in melee range, you do high burst damage, and can boop her or yourself away if you need to.

I never stopped.
