But aren't the use of a character and the mimicry of a style different things? It's hard to define styles, and it's hard to measure how close or different two might be from each other. The AI might learn the style of an artist from scraped data, but it's training on photography might blend into the final output, resulting in small differences.

In the examples, there are some assumptions:

One and two don't account for cases like when a professional artist has a patreon that they push out fanart (oftentimes pornography, so they very likely don't have consent) for, or the entire doujinshi market where the moral argument has given way to the practical realities of difficult enforcement and free marketing.

Many times if a new artist has been tasked with the character of an old one, it's because the old artist doesn't retain the rights to their own work, the company does. Technically consent had been agreed upon in advance, but we all know that corpos have the leverage in commercial work.

The inspiration is, “I typed it in.

This assumes that all AI art is prompt engineering when it isn't.

The intent is, “I wanted it.”

Feel like this describes a particular type of person rather than the variety of people who might make things for different reasons. Sometimes it's "I needed it for something secondary that isn't important enough to pay someone for," such as a D&D campaign or other forms of roleplay.
Sometimes it's used for the sake of a larger project, where the generated content is making up for a skill and/or funds deficiency. Which is something already skilled artists could benefit from by turning their daydreams into a webcomic, or animation, or even videogame (the aigamedev subreddit can be pretty interesting sometimes).
Sometimes it really is a love of the artist's work (mimicry is the sincerest form of flattery and all of that). It's a controlling and possessive love, but love all the same.

Does that make the initial scraping okay? I don't know. I think many artists are right to feel shafted and angry. I also think increasing the scope of what artists can do without groveling to publishers is a good thing.

Excuses for scraping sound similar to excuses for rape.

Basically any "you should have known better" statement can be interpreted this way, though, which makes the argument kind of silly. People just like connecting things they don't like to the most extreme language possible. It's everywhere in every part of our discourse.

That's true, I just kind of assumed like, I mean, I pulled the 10% number out of my ass, it could be better, could be worse. Either way, 10% of like 800 million is still 80 million. That'd be a lot of review. I guess the social media teams have to do it somehow.

Either way, idk how tf we got here from the original topic, lmao. If someone's telling their chatbot they're going to commit a murder or do a public shooting or something(and it's clear they're not joking), then yeah, I'd probably want that to flag something in the system.

It gets weird when talking about suicide, as it's designed to be extremely strict. I've had times where I've just brought the topic up passively and had it direct me to a suicide hotline like 5 times in a row while I tried to add layers of euphemism to my prompt. It had nothing to do with me, let alone any sort of ideation or planning.

And if we're still talking about pictures, afaik, none of the online models allow csam. Except maybe Grok? I'm down with nuking Grok's servers from orbit, though. We can take out X, too, while we're at it.

I think a nice way (maybe not totally accurate I'm not a math wizard) to think of it is, everyone except the top 12 players in the world have a theoretical lobby they will get shit on in. 99.9999999% of us will always have days where we feel bad in comparison to someone just a little better than us. The people who just beat you eat shit a lot, too.

Seconding this, honestly curious. Honestly after this Trump just seems more scary. Him raising his fist after an assassination attempt makes him seem like some sort of revolutionary and I think a lot of people just want to go back to boring stability.

While the "if Shiki doesn't have free will in this scenario is he really the one to blame?" is debatable, I chalk the rest up to wacky otaku ideas about sex. While the writing can be impressive at times, never forget you're reading a medium intended for extremely lonely and sometimes bitter dudes belonging in a society that commonly has women saying, "no, don't" even in consensual intercourse.

I think I saw a comedy video about it one time where someone was quizzed with like 4 different tones of "no" and had to guess which one was a "please stop" kind of "no".

Spreadsheet posted on this reddit I ran into during my own searches. Obv not mine.

I mean, that's an arbitrary numbers issue, someone with a mod could scale damage values in two seconds and make exploration mandatory. You could also limit your SL and achieve the same result.

There are inherent issues with enemies scaling with you, in that they make increasing your power feel pointless—disincentivizing exploration. There are also issues with the approach Elden Ring takes, in which the game needs to allow you to become OP if you do everything, because if it doesn't then again, exploration becomes mandatory, and most people aren't going to be extremely thorough. The tradeoff, of course, is some players will walk away feeling the way you do, or feel the game is too hard because they didn't want to do any exploration at all

Whelp, this is too empty for my taste. Take an upvote or something.

I dunno, it's kind of like using faggot for people who aren't gay. It has nothing to do with what the word actually means and most people who use it have nothing against actual gay people.

Words are just words, dude. Intent is what really matters, and frankly, these subsections of the internet focusing on and empowering these no no words are pretty autistic, imo.

Dunno, just tossing in my two cents.
