Pretending: I really listened to this song last night, and it has gotten into my head. Trying to look at all the layers of meeting and all of the imagery in it. Since the song California gold is just a couple songs ahead of it and in this song he talks about fool gold. I find the imagery interesting. The narrator. also talked about pines which can go all the way back to the echo echo album as the song Lonesome pine. And he talked about crying Wolf several times in the song. I have been trying to decide who is pretending if it’s a memory of someone he thought loved him and then it turned out they were pretending and now he’s embarrassed at the end of the song when he says “nobody needs to know what it is“. It is entirely possible that I am way overthinking this and have too much time on my hands as I drive.

If you could hear me and just tell me the answer that would be awesome. I am sure that I could dig and find it but my life is pretty hectic and I haven’t had time. I did see that they were dressed as well in the back mask 1983 video.

I have always thought it would be fun to find a spring show somewhere and fly to that city and see them another time
Substantial_Cover447
I was very familiar with the earlier music and had planned to see them in 2009 but wasn’t able to go. Then I think the in between years I lost track of them for awhile. It was powerful to hear learn to fly and also the war was in color at the same concert. It really hit me at a crossroads in my life. I’m going back and listening to some of those albums I had not really listening to.

Thanks. I have not looked at the video closely but I will go back and look for it.

Oops and I left off donnybrook affair and she’s gone.

I more would be pressed to pick songs I don’t like over ones I do. But I’ll give it a go. These are just the ones that come to mind without me looking up any of the songs.
grey skye eyes(named my horse after this song ), one prairie outpost, what about everything, life less ordinary, the boxer, time is a playground, you and me, ragtime carnival, comfort, desperation song, let your troubles roll by, two aging truckers, Smokey Joe, everything’s all right mama, California Gold
there are more I’m sure

Haha they played it live in Dallas last month. It was glorious

We went to our first one at Stubbs BBQ in austin around 9/11/15. We have been going back to shows ever since. We should have gone in 2009 to Dallas House of Blues, but instead we had the swine flu. It's the highlight of my year.

I have always loved Ghost Dragon attacks castle and it makes me a little sad that they are playing less of these songs (at least where I see them in Dallas).
I have a whole deep dive I have been doing on the lyrics of the song Time is the Playground. I liked it from the first time I heard it but the more I listen to it the deeper it gets to me. The lyrics: Make sure I'm worn before I fade is Reminiscent of the lyrics form comfort: The you live the less you will die--at least in my mind.
The song "you and me" has really had in me in nostalgic tears of late--my daughter got married 2 weeks ago and she is my chief carbon leaf concert buddy. The knowing that this is the playground and that at the end of the day You and Me may or may not be You and me as we are today/were yesterday has been a little poignant. I realize the song is probably about a romantic relationship so I also think about her dad, who passed away in 2022. He was one of my best friends and will always be missed.
And I love the song California gold. It has a nice, easy almost country feel.
I'm a music therapist and learned about carbon leaf from another music therapist so it has been a personal and therapeutic journey with the band over the last 20 years.

I don't think a girl and her horse is a great song, but being a horse girl I really appreciate it and there are layers in the words that go behind the girl and her horse.
Substantial_Cover447
I love the song dirty Bird. But I think for me it’s because I was at a crossroads in my life getting ready to move to my next phase and that song was at a concert. I attended right before I made that move. It is indelibly stuck in my mind as the ultimate free yourself and move on song.

I know this is an old thread, but I just found it. I agree it completely about mellow tone. I always skip it when it pops up. But I love gray sky eyes and I sing it quite a bit in my Musictherapy practice. I also named my Horse Skye, but her official name is Grey sky eyes. We just saw the Band in Dallas on Saturday and as usual when they perform there is not a song I don’t love.

I never saw the notice and just got charged the new rate today. I'm looking to change b/c this is a ridiculous price.

does the app prompt you to log each trip or each day? We have multiple vehicles on our shared mileiq account and the bluetooth has been helpful for telling which truck did which job. I am not the best at keeping up with the logging unfortunately and find myself back tracking. Also can two people share an account or would we each have to have our own?
Substantial_Cover447
agreed, but so is therapy :-)

I mean to say I did not think he would tell the woman that her man should give up his boat. So, he would tell her to shut up about the future husband's hobby. That was what I meant. I had a typo.
Substantial_Cover447
His attitude was condescending and rude. He said when she grew up she would see that having a horse wasn't important. I can tell you that for most horse people this does not happen.
Substantial_Cover447
I did not get the feeling it was about affordability. It was about the future husband not wanting to support a horse emotionally or financially.
Substantial_Cover447
That's not the point really. The point is she already has the horse so she must currently be paying for the horse. It's his unwillingness to work with her to the point where he called into Dave's show so that Dave could say she shouldn't keep her horse. Plus, it's the attitude that when she "grows up" she won't want to keep a horse or she will see how foolish having a horse is. We have land to, but if I didn't I'd still have "a" horse. I have way too many but we have a whole pasture they live in so it's affordable.
Substantial_Cover447
I had a fiancé who said horses were a phase. I decided he was the phase and here I am almost 40 years later with my horses.
Substantial_Cover447
I'm not saying he hasn't told men to give up their boats, but I doubt if the girl had called in complaining about his hunting or his boat that he would have told her to just hush up about his hobbies. I'm not even saying their shouldn't be a time to give up the horse, but for him to tell the man that his fiancée will grow out of it shows how little he knows about things that some of us are passionate about.
Thanks
