I feel like it was a catch-22 scenario. John Tory seemed like he was undefeatable, so no serious candidates wanted to run against him. No serious candidates ran against John Tory, so he coasted to victory. I'll admit to voting for Gil Penalosa because he was the only left-ish challenger but I was not at all enthused by his campaign.
The 2023 election and the one we just went through were serious campaigns. They both featured strong candidates on all side debating the issues. 2023 had Olivia Chow, Ana Bailão, Mark Saunders, and a few others who were actually trying to win. Say what you will about Brad Bradford (I certainly didn't vote for him) but he ran a real campaign.

That definitely happened with the 2021 federal election. I can't remember if it continued to the 2022 municipal one as well.

FYI, campaigns usually remove these themselves. In a city as big as this, there will likely be a few that get missed but the campaigns will do their best to get them all.

To me, the metric is that faux-Chow beat Chris Alexander's vote count. I consider him to be one of the only other serious candidates in the race and not withstanding the fact that he stopped his campaign, he was still on the ballot. The fact that faux-Chow beat him tells me there were plenty of people who voted for the wrong Chow accidentally.

I was annoyed that her signs all said "Re-elect" instead of "Elect." It was in very poor taste. I'm glad she didn't win.

Yes.

I'm voting for Sara Ehrhardt. I like how she's been advocating for the school board and think she'll do a great job as councillor.
I'll admit that I wasn't happy the way Paula Fletcher handled not running again. Though I've voted for her in the past, I did think it was time for some fresh blood. But I don't blame Sara for that as others have. I think she'll do an excellent job.

I'm tired of waiting for Stardew's 1.7 update (and maybe a bit bored with Stardew in general) so I bought Roots of Pacha in a recent Steam sale. I'm enjoying it so far. It's similar enough to Stardew that I kinda know what I'm doing but the setting is still a refreshing novelty. I'd definitely recommend if you're looking for something in that genre.
