I don't know anything by Tame Impala. Just checked out 4 tracks and it sounds quite boring, compared to this.
Not my sort of music, but: great voice, good mix, instruments on the spot. And 5/4 beats always get my attention. Nice chord progression, too.

the shadow is quite telling

That's cool you like Mabloni.
All these guys are friends of mine and Marlon (Mabloni) is one of my employees. Super nice guy.
I think his usual stuff is more folkish. But he contributed one country song to a sampler we did together at work: https://thesurrealfunfair.bandcamp.com/track/eat-the-rich-feed-the-poor
Btw: everybody on this sampler (exc for El Atea) is vegan.

it's from 1984 and I loved it when it came out. Was very surprised a good amount of years later when I got into Current 93 to hear them covering it and then to find out Rose was a part of C93 back then.

Surreal_Funfair

Can't say anything about the music because it's very much not my thing - but you absolutely should quit the hot buttoning :D

There was a club I went to in the 80s/90s that used to play their track 'Decay' regularly.

Surreal_Funfair

ah..ja, ich bin auch nicht auf Spotify. Ich glaube, ne Menge Underground Bands meiden Spotify.

Surreal_Funfair

the song already is interesting.
You worked out a good chord progression. It's only the 4th (last) bar that is too predictable.
So.. if it was my track, I'd make the fillers and inbetween-noises a bit quieter and honestly, the drum sounds are really terrible. I'd probably make the 1st drum fill at 0:16 less packed and use a reversed reverb. I don't know if that's possible in Garageband, but it's something I often do: if you have an audio-track (like a couple drum hits), reverse it. Then put a long reverb on it and render it (or record it on a new track) as a new audio file (with the reverb). Then inverse it again and you have the reverb happening before the actual sound.
Don't listen to the folks saying they want it more catchy. Also don't listen to me if you're good with your drum sounds. Your music isn't there to serve people who want to dance but to sound exactly like you want it to.

I'm using Reason - in Reson there are no Project files. Everything is stored within the Reason-Songfile.
When doing variations, I name them var1, var2 etc or add what I changed to the name (dif bass...).
Also I usually add the date between the name and the 'var1, var2..', so the newest version is always the one on the bottom and I can easily check which one is from when without checking the file properties.

Point 5: by chance. Searching for older ideas is a f...ing mess. I have to go through hundreds of saved ideas. I tried making different folders ('do', 'has potential', 'for other ppl', 'crap', 'maybe later' and so on), which helps a bit - but how are you supposed to find an old composition when you saved it by running your fingers uncontrolled across the keyboard for a name?
In my opinion this is the biggest issue with daws. You actually have to load the whole song into your DAW to hear what it is. I wish there was a preview function, which would make finding your stuff a lot easier.
Of course you could always save an additional mp3 file for prelistening, but that would double the number of files.

along with Photograph Of You. Both of them should be swapped for Tora! and Big Muff

Ich nutze kein Spotify. Aber ja, ich meine das Stück Geile Tiere der Band Geile Tiere von 1980. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c9X454iXwI0

TYS is a great track. I didn't like it so very much back in 1984, but in fact it's packed with good ideas, is THE carrier for their typical sound of the era, playful and bold in its dissonance.

Solid little thing that served us well in my old synth punk band, but I wouldn't get it for that price. Plus the missing fader knobs...

Surreal_Funfair

dude, this is not about clicks or success. This is the exact wrong mindset for the idea of noise music.

Surreal_Funfair

saw the yesterday in Berlin and it was awesome.

Surreal_Funfair

It's not even a song. And you're welcome.

feel free to add me to your collection of German acts that are so underground that even Germans never heard of them :D
