Solid breakdown - one thing worth adding as a 6th consideration, since it changes the whole calculus: are you buying crypto for the first time with fiat, or do you already hold crypto and just want to convert between assets/chains?

Your five criteria are spot-on for the first case (onboarding onto a custodial CEX). But if it's the second case, you don't need a full KYC exchange account at all - non-custodial instant exchanges (where I work, disclosure: Swapzone) let you swap crypto-to-crypto without registration, since there's no fiat leg and no funds custody involved. Different risk profile too: instead of "is this exchange secure long-term," the question becomes "does this specific swap execute at the rate/time promised."

Worth knowing which situation you're actually in before applying either checklist.

Since transparent fees matter to you specifically - worth comparing more than one provider, fee structures vary more between non-custodial exchanges than people expect, even on the same BTC→XMR pair.

Disclosure: We are Swapzone. We pull live quotes from several non-custodial exchanges side by side so you can see the actual output amount and fee breakdown before committing. For a privacy coin swap specifically, I'd also check XMR liquidity at the given provider right at the time of the trade - a good rate on paper doesn't help if the order can't actually fill.

On the rate comparison point — worth adding: we at Swapzone pull offers from several non-custodial exchanges at once (ChangeNOW and ChangeHero included), so you don't have to manually check 3-4 sites one by one.

Rate is what everyone looks at first, but it's not the only thing that decides where to actually swap from. Alongside the rate, we also try to show:

  • Estimated execution time: varies quite a bit between providers even on the same pair
  • No-KYC limits: each provider has its own threshold before verification kicks in
  • Real-time availability: not every coin is in stock at every provider at the same moment
  • Reliability by specific pair: worth going by a provider's track record rather than assuming they're all equally reliable across every pair

We also have a dedicated page for each partner if you want to dig deeper into a specific one — covers details that don't always fit into a side-by-side comparison.

On the AML/frozen funds point, agree with Killora on the pre-check idea: providers genuinely differ a lot in freeze risk on the same pairs/amounts, and some of that can be gauged in advance just from a provider's track record on a specific corridor.

For native BTC → USDT without wrapping, THORChain-based routes (mentioned above) are solid, but for a larger swap I'd actually compare quotes across multiple providers before committing — slippage and fees vary more than people expect between THORChain, SideShift, Changelly-type instant exchanges, etc., especially on size.

Full disclosure, we are from Swapzone — we do exactly this, pull quotes from multiple non-custodial exchanges side by side so you can see the best rate/lowest fee combo for your specific size before you commit, rather than picking one provider and hoping it's competitive. No KYC required for most of providers.

Sure, and it's not just launchpads, same logic applies to any swap/trade. If the platform doesn't separate fee from price impact in the UI, you can't actually tell which one ate your trade, even knowing the final number.

"Transparent fee" sounds like a low bar but most platforms still fail it either no breakdown at all, or it only shows up after you've already confirmed

SwapzoneIO

We recently analyzed user feedback and behavior around crypto swaps, and one thing that came up pretty often was the need to keep multiple tabs open.

People compare different platforms to figure out where they can get the best rate and how much they’ll actually receive. This is especially noticeable with less-liquid pairs.

Another common issue is when the initial number looks good, but by the time you get to the confirmation step, the final amount has changed because of the spread, fees, or price movement.

We’re actually trying to solve this on our platform: we compare multiple offers side by side and show the key conditions, so users don’t have to gather all that information from different platforms themselves. Basically, everything needed for the comparison is in one place.

We wouldn’t call this outright bullish yet. I’d describe it as relative strength.

ETF outflows are clearly selling pressure, but the more important question is how BTC reacts to that pressure. If BTC continues holding around $76K–$79K despite those outflows, it suggests there is still enough demand elsewhere to absorb the selling.

That said, we wouldn’t read too much into the current stability on its own. For us, $80K is the level to watch. A clean reclaim and hold above it would be a much stronger confirmation of demand. If BTC keeps getting rejected there, the current range could still turn into another move lower.

So rather than looking at ETF flows in isolation, we’d focus on the relationship between selling pressure and price reaction. That gives a better picture of whether the market is actually absorbing supply or simply consolidating before the next move

We’re seeing this as part of a broader shift in the CEX market, rather than simply a “no-KYC exchanges are dying” situation.

CoinEx cited lower volumes and liquidity, rising regulatory requirements, compliance costs, and operational uncertainty. BitMEX is also shutting down on September 23, while BitMart is winding down with final closure planned for January 2027.

The reasons aren’t necessarily the same in every case, but the pattern is worth watching: weaker market activity combined with higher regulatory and operating costs can put real pressure on centralized exchange businesses.

From our perspective, this makes it even more important for users to look beyond KYC alone and consider custody, liquidity, withdrawal conditions, supported jurisdictions, and how transparent a platform is about its operations.
